why are you posting this on a video games board

Artfag here, yes, though commissioning an artist is very easy.
Get Renpy, it's a very basic program that's easy to understand and as a lot of tutorials. Renpy's site also has a wealth of vns you can use for inspiration, remember it doesn't need to be complex to be good.

I work for a studio. If you want an easy to use but flexible engine, download Ren'py. It has a ton of basic variables and tools for doing stuff in visual novels you need, like showing sprites, playing music, transitioning with scenes, things like that. You can also use Python coding with it if you want things to be a bit more advanced than that. There's plenty of freelancers you can find in the industry who will make music, backgrounds, sprites and CGs for you, but you're going to need some capital to pay for them first.

Also keep in mind that visual novels are still a niche thing even on Steam and there's tons of visual novels out there that never get any attention at all. You're going to be competing with a lot of high quality visual novels which barely get any attention themselves.

My final warning is to never work with Sekai Project, no matter what they're promising you. Good luck with your visual novel.

Is it compatible with linux?

Are you compatible with google?

OP has no idea what is supposed to do and will never make it

I feel like this was just a really ass backwards way to start a summertime saga thread.

Sure.

Of course you can. It's fucking anime. You don't really need ''art skills'' to draw anime stuff.

I love R07's art

Hook me up with these totally unknown good VNs.

...

I keep seeing this posted lately, should I just make the plunge and read it?

I'll have you know, I'm writing a script right now.

I personally loved it, but everyone has different tastes. Just try it and see if it draws you in.

Just write a novel then

VNs are generally better off styling themselves as TV scripts rather than prose. You can explain something in narration, but there should be a good reason not to just show it in a visual.

is this about lesbians

give us a taste senpai

No

You won't be competing with high quality visual novels for attention, just like books don't compete with high quality books for attention. It either gets attention or it doesn't, its quality is largely irrelevant.
