Honestly if they're gonna do 3D bonus levels they might as well do a little more to make them proper 3D. Old Sonic Team would have, they stretched the hardware pretty far as it was.

I wouldn't have problems with it if some of the level layouts weren't absolute dogshit though. Trying to figure out how to approach a weirdly shaped pack of spheres or how many squares jumping will take me while moving at 80 miles an hour is trial-and-error bullshit.

Problem is that once you have all gold medals there's no reason to do them anymore since they give no rewards like shields and extra lives. Not even for the sake of just playing them, because if you want to play blue sphere it is better to do it from the extras menu since it contains new stages and more colored orbs.
