>everything is dark and you can't see shit half the time
Good horror games don't need shitty crutches.
Have you ever taken a shit and thought "Hey that's fucking disgusting, gotta put that in my horror game"?
What's that disgusting things are not scary? Too bad, the entire game is nothing but blood and gore that which gets old in the first minute.
Why do devs do this?
>the game builds tension for the entire time
>shitty jumpscare at the very end ruins the tension
why even try
>elemental magic system
>the color of darkness/death is purple
this should be literally illegal
>horror game
>it's a 1st person walking simulator
Because actually being scary takes effort.
>objective: survive
I haven't seen games do this a lot but I'd say this one is gold if it's done right. Preferably in non horror games where horror moments have more weight to them.
It doesn't have to tell you that specifically but 80% of horror games are either entirely about hiding from enemies or have parts like that in them.
It's fine if the mechanics are good but for example the few parts where you're forced to hide from the enemy in RE7 were really shitty.
Like this?
Fleshy growths are terrifying. Cancer is very scarey
I've pledged the €65 tier, game's looking so fucking awesome.
>game builds tension for the hole game
>protagonist is silent up until the final scene
>ruins everything with just one word
Fuck System Shock 2.
>Psychological horror is dead
I miss Silent Hill.
>horror game
>shit people still don't know the meaning of
I was thinking of non horror games where the player wouldn't expect spooky things. I pictured the game's objective to update to "Survive" before any signs of threats appear, keeping the player on their toes, while being afraid of the unknown.
>mfw cant remember the last good horror game that built lore around a character of faction that actually made them terrifying but also interesting
>mfw recent "horror" games lay out their villain's cards in the first 30mins and then rely on shitty jumpscares to meet their "horror" quota
Humans find the unknown both intriguing and unsettling; we want to know more but are scared because we don't know what it's capable of and if it will hurt us. So why the fuck do they make these plain "it just wants to kill us" 'villains' I beyond me.
I like that, I also like when is green
>Villain is a trillion year old cosmic horror whose entire interaction with the cosmos is waged through war and death
>In-game appearances make him seem like your average Saturday Morning cartoon villain.
It's mindboggling that they managed to actually have a great deal of story and character built into a villain and then leave the actual story spread around in cookie crumbs, found on the games maps and activities.
So much wasted potential...
Darkwood is a pretty good recent horror game.
>game is disgusting, over-the-top violence and gore but not horrifying
>player is able to beat it
>game is truly horrifying
>player never finishes it
Are you kidding me? That word is the best in any videogame.
I just looked on google images...it's...a bird's eye view game? How the fuck is that scary?
>edge for 14 hours
>ejaculate and ruin all the edging
why does porn even try
I liked the first trailer better

Everything looks the same in the new trailer, it's like a flood level from Halo. The enemies also look like shit.
Dark Eco was lit you faggot.
Wouldn't be cool if you play a horror game and explore a cave or an island or an abandoned village and solve puzzles and figure out the backstory and it's completely atmospheric and spooky but there's not a single enemy?
And then the next playthrough you have enough insight that you start going "oh hey that's what that meant" but also the game spawns monsters now and opens up and branches into new areas with more plot stuff and the older areas become warped and corrupted and just halfway through this fucking paragraph I realize I'm just describing Silent Hill minus the new playthrough.
