Why would he do something ljke this less than a month after we got basically complete confirmation that we are never getting another Half Life? It feels like he's deliberately disrespecting the Valve fanbase.

Why do people act like the ex-writer posting his story being "confirmation" of anything? Hell him leaving in the first place was more meaningful than his story post. Nevermind the fact they could just have someone else write HL3 and the story could wind up being completely different than what was posted.

Not that I give a fuck about HL3 one way or another, just don't know why everyone's been blowing this, of all things, out of proportion.

Because even if the game was almost complete and ready to launch in 2018, having the entire story leaked will most definitely set it way back. They might even need to restart the entire writing process. This happening 10 years after 3 was already supposed to come out? How could valve even see it as worth it at this point?

The only chance of still getting 3 is if in a complete stroke of luck, the plot for 3 has at this point been rewritten an changed so many times that it's nothing similar to what was leaked. But even that is a stretch because it's still assuming hl3 is still in development in the first place.

Best case scenario they announce three new games at steam dev days. Worst case is that its all vr shit or nothing at all.
