Just started up Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth.
I've been playing Path of Exile almost exclusively for the last month, and was playing Divine Divinity before that. Don't remember any further.
Pokemon TCG2 is the game I play during lunch breaks at work, same with TWEWY (depends entirely on how I'm feeling that day), Everybody's Golf is the game I'm mainly playing right now. Again I was just grinding shit out in OJ last night. Katamari was something to hold me over until Everybody's Golf came out, good shit but I've played it before so I don't feel any shame in dropping it to do something else.

I guess that's applicable to people just getting into Utawarerumono, but like the user right right above you has said, people that bought Uta 2 probably watched the anime or played the first game, whether it be on PC, PS2, or PSP. It really seems like you're just assuming things because I haven't seen you post any solid proof yet, so I can't really take your word as fact.
I can believe what you said about the ME games since people who played the first two games and actually paid attention to what Bioware was doing probably didn't even bother getting ME3.
If you mean Utawarerumono, it's basically like Feudal Japan but with catgirls, harpies, etc. but the more human kind with magic. It also has sci-fi elements revealed later. The games are strategy RPGs with timed hits.
This is just basic human psychology. Look at Dark Souls. Each instalement became more popular and a lot of people who started at X never played X-1.
Most people paying attention to weeb vita/ps4 game knew Under Water Romano was coming and a lot bought it without paying attention to the first episode because fuck watching an old anime/playing an old video game
For ME, I'm basing myself on the stat Bioware published about ME3 who showed that Grex was dead or inexistant for more than 60% of the player
