Donkey Kong Country 2 is the greatest platformer ever made
Donkey Kong Country 2 is the greatest platformer ever made
DKCs Oil Drum Alley and Blackout Basement prove that your statement is false.
Nah.
One of the best
Pretty much. And DKC trilogy is probably the best videogame trilogy of all time. MGS is pretty close but didn't age as well as those three platformers.
whoa two stages damn sure proved everyone wrong.
DKC series is mediocre, its very simple in gameplay and level design
problem is, DKC1 is way too linear and has basic horizontal design (I don't remember a single level where everything is going upwards or downwards like some DKC2 stages), it was surpassed in every single thing by the sequel. Not even secret levels or special world with an alternate ending.
Still a good game, but easily the weakest of the three when the matter is level design and variety.
Nothing from the 90's was actually good. You're just nostalgia blinded.
>t. born in 2000s
it's okay to be a scrub user
So are Mario games.
The fact that it does platforming better than it since doesn't rely on powerups says how much better it is.
Fuck off, Shigeru.
DKC platforming > Mario platforming
not talking about 3D Marios, obviously
>its very simple in gameplay and level design
Hardly
There were too many rollercoaster levels IMO.
how many gameplay videos did you watch?
I disagree but I respect your opinion.
Yeah, you're right, it is.
God, that fucking music.
2 introduced annoying gimmicks like Squawks levels or the wind shit, and there's way too much vertical levels.
That's why I prefer the 1st one, basic gameplay yeah, but still enjoyable from start to finish.
there are 3 rollercoaster levels in total, 2 in Kremland and 1 in Gloomy Gulch
I believe we played different games
Get with the times gramps. Nowadays we watch analysis videos or listen to podcasts of people rephrasing the same opinions for over an hour.
>Nowadays we watch analysis videos
What is the point of these. Are people so fucking lazy they can't be bothered to just read a 500 word review online?
TOO MANY
it's up to personal taste, I find 2 and 3 with more variety and better difficulty (3 not much, unless you're going for 105%), 1 is way, way too easy even to 101%, no special worlds and no alternate/harder boss
again, up to personal taste
I can't even remember the third one. One is the race and one has the gates with the barrel switches, both of which I think are in Kremland. What is the other level in Gloomy Gulch?
there are like 3x more jungle, castle or shipwreck themed levels in this game
the ghost chase in the library
The spooky ghost chasing you.
There are literally only 3 of every theme in the game (Not counting boss stages)
Gotcha. The whole world is a blur to me except for the shitty fucking wind levels.
except for jungle ones, which I believe there are like 4 or 5
ONE wind level, literally a single one in gloomy gulch
The wind level was fun.
Gloomy Gulch is probably my favorite world.
there is a small section in Animal Antics (the last special level) where you must cross with Squawks while there's some random wind blows just like in Gloomy Gulch, if that counts as a level
hard as fuck
and a mine level in the last world where you can "float" around to cross the pits, so that makes 2,5 wind levels
That level was fucking annoying because the wind would change it's behavior depending on the section. And it was unpredictable as hell (AA at least had a pattern).
Is this on VC?
Those are just as bad.
Go fuck yourself faggot
>Original Rayman
>Donkey Kong Country 2
>Super Mario World
>Sonic 3 & Knuckles
the true list of excellent times to be had with platformers, in order of most to least difficult
there are harder games, longer games, games with more content, games with more depth
but these true four are a symphony of pleasing graphics, amazing music, memorable worlds, and perfectly fun gameplay that will keep you alert but never hope to frustrate you or make you feel cheated
>since doesn't rely on powerups
Wouldn't the animal mounts technically count as powerups?
People like you need to get your head out your ass. Myamoto was right. The DKC series is all flash. Mediocre doesn't mean terrible, but don't pretend a gorilla with a tie can compete with the juggernaut of platforming that is Mario.
Mario Bros. 3 is the greatest platformer of all time. This is fact.
I recall some of the later levels of Rayman feeling pretty cheap, but admittedly its been like 15 years since I last played it.
I don't have any intention of arguing, but I complete DKC to 102% about twice a year, and I must say the winds in gusty mine level are not unpredictable. You say it yourself - they change depending on the section. They're triggered, they're the same every single time, the level is literally designed around which way the wind will blowing during each section.
I like Mega Man X, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Demon's Crest more. It's definitely one of the greatest platformers ever made though, along with Tropical Freeze.
