3&K is still the best to me but Mania is right behind it.

none of them

Then what else could it possibly be?

sonic 3 complete>3&K>>Mania

Freedom Planet

Not Sonic

Sonic 3&K>CD>Mania=1>2

∑(Mania) = Sin(3&K)^2 + Tan(CD)^(-1)

Nice

The more I play it, the more I think Mania is better than S3&K.

>unquantified summation

>Scrub who can't stay above the caves in Hill Top Zone

I feel that way because Mania is literally a "best of" title. Almost no downtime outside of Hydrocity Act 1 and Oil Ocean. Meanwhile 3K has a fair amount of levels I can't stand. Just wish Mania was a bit harder.

Technically it is better.

3&K > Mania >>> 2 >>> CD > 1

Getting sick and tired of these 3C shills

Fuck you I like having that Knuckles theme the whole game.

I DOWNLOADED THE FUCKING GAME BUT NOTHING'S HAPPENING. IT'S JUST A FILE THAT SAYS SONIC3.GEN

>Multi-button super
>Super cancel
>Sped up zone music instead of invincibility theme
>Ability to have Knuckles' theme play for all minibosses
>Flying Battery looks bad ass with a night filter
>You can even use the shitty S&K Collection music
Sorry shitposter-kun, S3C is the superior game

You have to load it up using an emulator you dunce

The one which doesn't feature green hill zone

3 Complete>3&K>Mania

It's close though.

The music in that Forces trailer was so bad, why they don't realize that those shitty synth sounds was what they were trying to prevent back in the early 90s?

Everything I've seen about Forces so far is embarrassingly bad. I legitimately think it may approach 06 and Boom in quality when it comes out.

It IS better than S3&K. The real question is if it is better than Sonic 1 and 2.

lol

Well it doesn't have Metropolis Zone so that immediately disqualifies 2.

Marble Garden is easily the worst of all classic Genesis zones. At least something like Metropolis Zone is reminiscent of Scrap Brain which is a fun zone.

I fucking hate Marble Garden too, but Metropolis feels like a fucking Bubsy level, it's absolute bullshit.

The 3 acts make it feel like 10 times longer than it actually is, it doesn't help that you have to slog through Oil Ocean before either, and everyone's favorite level, Sky Chase is right after it!

At least the music is neat.

SC > 3&K > Mania

Honestly though the fact that Mania is even comparable to these games is really fucking impressive for the first real attempt at a Sonic game by dedicated fans.

>The real question is if it is better than Sonic 1 and 2.
How is that the real question when 3K is better than both. CD too for that matter.

Mania.
Like another user said, the more I play it the more I like it.
The only thing 3C has over it is the story at this point.

3C also has fully original zones and a not shit PC version

Yeah but a third of those zones are a pain to play through.

Not really. The only bad zone in the game is Sandopolis, and that's only because of Act 2.

3K is overrated. There, I said it.

>fully original
So?
>not shit PC version
Mania's PC version is objectively the best version of the game

That's wrong though.

Really disappointed this zone (and its music) don't exist in some form in Mania.

Not that guy but Marble Garden, Carnival Night, Launch Base, Sandopolis, and Death Egg all suck.

It's true though.

You have the whole lava raining down & blocks moving in lava in Lava Reef at least.

Marble Garden is ass
Carnival Night starts out okay but Act 2 sucks
Sandopolis is ass cancer
Death Egg sucks

That's roughly 1/3 of the game

>So?
It lacks a real identity because of it, and it just feels kinda cheap because Ikuza wouldn't let them have the game be completely original. It also doesn't help that the Zone choices aren't great.
>Mania's PC version is objectively the best version of the game
Not with Denuvo it isn't.

GOAT Sonic game coming through

Marble Garden hate is unjustified, I think it's great.
Carnival Night is alright barring the infamous barrel.
Launch Base and Death Egg are great.

And all of these levels are far better than shit like Labyrinth, Oil Ocean, Metropolis, Sky Chase, Wing Fortress, and pretty much all of CD.

Pirated PC version.

>sonic games
>good
lol there is a medical study that proves sonic the hedgehog media gives people autism, stay far away from it

Not an excuse. I don't want to pirate the game, and Sonic Team shouldn't have fucked over consumers when the game would be cracked a week later.

>Marble Garden hate is unjustified, I think it's great.
>the infamous barrel.
>and pretty much all of CD.
Oh boy, this is going to be one of those threads. I agree on those zones being great by the way.

Launch Base IS great

And I agree that they're all better than the shit you listed in the second part, I just think Mania has the most consistent level designs.

>le denuvo affects the game maymay
It still has more features than the console version.

sonic mania
also s3c and s3&k aren't different enough to be considered two different games

I actually like CD, but I will fully admit that the game's gimmick ruins the level design.

Hell, I even enjoy playing 2 over 3&K, but I'll also admit that it's because petty, autistic reasons like Sonic's sprite being different and I whole-heartedly believe 3&K is a better game despite my preference.
Yeah Mania has better level design, and the older levels, barring maybe Oil Ocean and Hydrocity Act 2, are the definitive versions of those Zones, especially for Metallic Madness.

Steam release when?

I don't care if it lets you play as Amy and Metal Sonic, I'm not putting that malware on my PC.
The moment they remove it is the moment where I say it's the definitive version.

Yeah they made took Metallic Madness from a 4/10 to a 10/10.

>especially for Metallic Madness.
Metallic Madness is so great in Mania, it's probably my favorite remixed zone in the game, the only negative I have with it is that Matryoshka Bom.

Being able to glide as knuckles without needing to transform is a pretty big deal though.

Please let's not start with denuvo again.
They even cracked it.

The fact I prefer mania doesn't mean I won't defend marble garden and sandopolis.
They are great zones and a casual filter.
Just like mania hydrocity and oil ocean

One is the official release, the other is a rom hack that is widely acclaimed for fixing the few problems with what was and still is considered the best Sonic game. Slight difference

At first I honestly would have preferred Metropolis Zone over Metallic Madness just because I like it's music, and I would have liked to see them try and redeem it, but holy shit listening to Act 1 for the first time almost immediately changed my mind.

The salt from peoples reactions to Metropolis Zone would have been amazing, though, especially if it was the only 3-act zone in the game.

oil ocean is awesome in mania, fast faced platforming i love it

>mfw you can burn the oil
>mfw again in act 2 when they bring back the Sandopolis act 2 gimmick

Taxman is going too far.

>The salt from peoples reactions to Metropolis Zone would have been amazing, though, especially if it was the only 3-act zone in the game.
Imagine if they made they brought back the Slicer enemy and even made it a boss or some shit, that'd trigger so much PTSD for fans & new comers would probably hate the fuckers in general also regardless of the level design being better.

The entire unholy trio as a boss would have been fucking amazing. At least Heavy Shinobi throws Asterons.
Somecallmejohnny would have lost his shit.

and he made it fun, i hated it in sonic 2 but here its awesome

I wish the CD port was a full remake now. SS and MM were amazing in Mania.
I love CD but the level design pales in comparison to the other Sonic titles, although it arguably has the coolest aesthetic.

If there's a Mania 2 with more returning levels I'd love to see Wacky Workbench. If something like Oil Ocean can be made to be not shit then I bet that could be turned into a great zone too.

After doing 10 runs in Mania I believe I can point out the parts the low points (in my opinion)

>Hydrocity
It was a great stage in S3&K but now Act 1 is a slow level and Act 2 feels off somehow (you can disregard this last part)
>Oil Ocean
The level itself is great but at that point I feel like I need a to take a breath since most of the stages from that point are pretty industrial (except for act 1 of Lava Reef)

I feel like a lot of this game was rushed and the Zone order was not supposed to be like this

Mania was an opportunity to remove stupid Sonic shit but they shoved in all the old zones and the lives system (game too short? have the player repeat content to add hours lol).

>WAHHHH WHY CAN'T I WIN EASILY REEEEEE

Kill yourself you shitter, getting even 1 game over in Mania is shitter-tier and you should never pick up another game ever

>Le level design
When will this meme die?
Do all retards play CD expecting to hold right and go fast like 2?
Do they not realise that you need to time travel and having high speed automated sections would make it trivial?
Can't they git gud instead of parroting le level design on every single thread?

I want people saying mania is worse than 3 to justify themselves. I'm a pretty big sonic fan that's played the shit out of all 2d sonic games and so far think Mania is the best I've played. What exactly is the problem? Or is it just people being nostalgiafags and MUH DENUVO MALWARE?

I never played a sonic game before and I just pirated Mania and man these games are a clusterfuck, I don't get the appeal. The controls are slippery and floaty as fuck, the levels are confusing mazes with a million branching paths that lead nowhere, the music is grating and so are most sound effects, shit moves too fast and you can react to anything, what the fuck is the appeal of this shit, seriously. Even as a kid when my friend was a sega boy and I was a nintendo boy, I could not understand what the fuck was so good about this, 2D Mario is on a whole other level of polish and is far more enjoyable.

what's the differences in 3 complete? i never played it

>Fixes dropped inputs and some clipping bugs
>Let's you choose between the original themes and the locked-on ones
>Brings back Big Arms fight
>Gives Super Sonic more sprites and multi-button activation
>Fixes Flying Battery boss sprite when you play as Knuckles
>Let's you chage FB's level order so you can play after Carnival Night like it was intended

I could never get into sonic, but decided to give it one more try with Mania.

Can someone explain to me how am I supposed to play this game? I'm trying to go fast, like in Mario and Donkey Kong games, but the levels seem to be so big, chaotic and full of obstacles that it's impossible to do this without experience and knowing the level by heart.

Should I just go slow and explore the level fully the first time I'm playing it? Or just try to breeze through it as fast as I can anyway? What's the best way to play Sonic game for the first time anons?

Mostly the super form activation is now done with a dedicated button, so you can play without fears as tails and knuckles.
There are dozens of minor bugfixes and qol changes, such as selecting the themes from 3 or s&k, changing super form music to speed shoes music and shit like that.
It's basically the definitive version of 3&k.

Personally I just prefer 3&K due to the zone transitions & better simple story telling, it also has a better final boss to me that's pretty intense for a 2D platformer where as Mania's final boss was underwhelming. The game also has the Hyper forms & Super Emeralds which are lovely to me, having the extra abilities with the characters are so fun like Sonic's 8-directional dash & Tails' Flicky army of death, plus I like needing to go get 7 more Emeralds midway through the game. That being said, Mania is still extremely close to being my favorite due to it's level design, visuals/animations, music & that Drop Dash is such a welcomed edition.

>shit story
>missing zone transitions
>too much auto parts
>only blue spheres as a bonus
>All of S3&k stages were new
>Insta-Shield>drop dash
>bosses going on forever and boring like the lava reef act 2 boss in S3
>last boss and final boss are bad
>Tied to forces
>No hyper forms
just my view i still love mania

While pictured are not the best, I do feel that they sadly get neglected despite being pretty decent and fun Sonic platform games. I would at the least consider them top 10, with Rush perhaps being top 5. Also not pictured are the fun (yet flawed) Sonic Advance/Battle games and Pocket Adventure. SegaSonic also gets a mention just for the sprite work and art direction but not the gameplay.

>Want to use insta-shield in Mania
>It's shit
How?

>No hyper forms
>my heart when I saw those petrified hyper emeralds in Mania
Such a cocktease

CD

I despise the fact that I agree with this.

After sonic 1 and as far mystic cave in S2, ( game completion following, of course) getting
flat-out game over screen on a regular basis and not having an abundant surplus of lives pretty
much dictates just how poorly you're reading the game.

Regardless of memorizing the stages, legit classic-syle Sonic is not like playing guitar hero
while blind and you Don't need godlike reaction time like Daigo Umehara and evo moment 37.

Being able to register what you're seeing on the screen needs to be up to whether or not the
player is focused and has the awareness to recall how relevant obstacles are to sonic's
immediate vicinity.

Basically, if you're just playing like you don't give a fuck, you're gonna get sans'ed. All the
games by design are built in both stage and mechanics to reward those that pay attention and
punish those that don't. They just don't bother to omochao the fuck out of you in order for you to
learn. Bitching and whining at his phase is purely a side-effect of sucking.

I say this after getting my ass handed to me on titanic monarch and blue sphere because of twitchy fingers..

JESUS CHRIST FLYING BATTLE ZONE IS SUCH BULLSHIT

I JUST KEEP RAGE QUITTING

Not him but from what I have played with the Insta-Shield in Mania (which was up until Studiopolis Act.2's boss) a lot of things are barely out of reach to actually kill with it. For example the Chemical Plant Act.1 mini-boss, the goo surrounding it is far enough where the Insta-Shield can't hit it or with the Tubinaut in Studiopolis, the ball shield thing around it is far enough where you can't kill it even though you could easily kill Orbinauts in 3&K but you only bounce off it as normal here. I might be just shit though, I've gotten so used to the Drop Dash after all, by the way I appreciate how you're invincible on spikes when using it at least.

What's people's problem with Hydrocity? It's way better than Sonic's Mirage Saloon Act 1.

...

>CD that high
>1 better than 2

Sonic 3&K >= Mania > 2 > 1 >= CD

the problem is twofold.
the rest of the franchise lacks this mechanic and the manner in which it was implemented along with the focus on
exploration being stronger than gimmicks based on utilizing sonics controls/manipulating momentum makes it so SCD
is more of a game from an unrelated franchise as opposed to sonic.

I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with experimentation. I AM willing to say that SCD stands on it's own as it's
own entity without any real sense of legitimate cohesion to the rest of the game purely due to it's design being a far
cry from the directed intent in the gameplay alone. It's a 2d platformer that isn't in the same vein of gameplay as a
traditional sonic game and is also visually more alien compared to the rest of the games. I'd go as far as to call it
"Sonic on Cybertron" just because all of the stages sort of look...

>is more of a game from an unrelated franchise as opposed to sonic.
More like the opposite
It's the only game that was directed by the father of Sonic The Hedgehog

Shit jojo
Shit taste

If you look at a package of Oreos with one fucking Chips Ahoy in it and go "hurr hurr the Chips Ahoy is actually the one that fits in best because it's Nabisco and Nabisco intended their cookeis to be of multiple brands!" you're a fucking moron.

The rest of the Sonic games follow a similar pattern in their level design. Saying "hurr hurr the FATHER of Sonic made this one so it's more legitimate than all the others!" means ignoring every Sonic game since 1992.

>Food analogy

>.gif
>isn't animated
Disappointing. I agree with you though.
