What are the best simulation/management games?
Other urls found in this thread:

I remember playing a lot of Mall Tycoon.
Microsoft Excel 2003
best shitty job simulator, makes macro and crunch the number of your fiscal year.
Open Transport Tycoon and Open RCT2
SimCity 4 if you're willing to search for a mod to make the traffic simulation bearable.
I used to play Zoo Tycoon and Roller Coaster Tycoon 3.
Many seem to enjoy Prison Architect but I could never get into it - it always seems to mess up in some way for me.
Football Manager
I like FM but the loading gets kind of annoying, somtimes feels like a long game of just clicking continue
Which Anno game should I get?
RCT2, I remember making roller coasters crash into crowds of people and getting toilet of the year award or some shit
There's a new one coming out wait for that.
RCT2
I guess Factorio falls into the "resource management autism" category.
1404 or 2070 probably
Capitalism Plus
Did this age well? Never played it before.
Startopia
The Guild 2
Children of the Nile
Evil Genius
This, Simcity 4 with Network Add-on Mod is still the most in-depth and autism-gratifying
I used to play a lot of Sim Tower and Dinopark Tycoon as a kid on my Windows 3.1 computer in middle school (best hand me down ever)
Yes. A bit warning, though, it has a steep learning curve.
I'll give it a try. How is capitalism 2?
The Guild 2 bothers me since it lacked a tutorial. I was able to start a clothing business but I feel like I'm missing out.
wait for guild 3, early access on 26th of september.
Though it's a fault in my side I guess. I bought Rennaisance, but not the base game. So maybe the base game has the tutorial?
My old roommate used to give me shit for playing this. He used to see it on the screen and go "Nurse user, to ward 3 please!" because apparently it's a girl's game. He said his sister used to play it a lot and his sister is a girl.
Haven't tried that one, was kinda put-off by the change in interface and artstyle.
Why is this genre so fucking dead
2010 > 2003
>his sister is a girl
thanks
I'm still confused about this game. So Renaissance is essentially the "goty" version of Guild 2, but you can still purchase 2 and its expansion separately?
>his sister is a girl
Prison Architect was disappointing because they created a fantastic foundation for the game, and then a pathetic campaign. I don't need an in-depth story, but give me a scenario pack at least
people play its campaign?
As someone who's autistic for the genre, I think Sim Golf and Theme Hospital are criminally underrated in these threads. They're just a lot of fun.
I like to have goals, it's a lot of fun working through the RCT scenarios
>underrated
they're like one of the top recommended games
Yeah, the RCT scenarios are pretty fucking cool, along with all of the premade parks. How did they get so good at making /comfy/ parks?
Pizza Tycoon
I own Tropico 3-5 and never played any of them. If I were to play 1, where do I start?
4
All you need is Renaissance
Pirates of the European Seas includes a short story campaign, but it's not worth it.
Jobs are very straight forward i the beginning. Buy ingredients cheap, make stuff and sell it when the market prices are high. Sometimes it's best to make all types of wares. Sometimes one is significantly more profitable.
The real meat of the game comes later when you can run multiple businesses and get into politics.
the first one is the best, never played 2.
3, 4 and 5 are the same game
so I was right in that Renaissance is essentially the "complete"/updated version then?
It's between 3 and 4.
4 improves some things from 3 but with a worse campaign.
Play the first one if you can too
yes, it's also the only version that got some updates recently. The other versions still have literally decade old bugs.
>theme hospital
>underrated
Oh fuck I remember Dinopark. Everyone would play that during computer class, but man we were all fucking awful at it. They upgraded the school computers one year and it was never reinstalled.
Any thoughts?
store.steampowered.com
Hell yeah man me too, the game was hard to play more than a few months worry of gametime, visitors would stop coming if you didn't add new atttractions/buy more and more ads, and it was hard to make a profit without slashing in the budget
Haven't played it in years, but simutrans is the best transport simulation game I have ever played.
It's for free on Steam since last year, so it's not like there was a high entry barrier.
Oh nice that's just like sim tower, would play
Motorsport manager is actually really good, hours fly by and you realize you have only done 2-3 races. Pretty damn satisfying even just climbing from 4th to 3rd on a mid level team.
1 is fun but it's pretty hard, specially since the AI is pretty retarded, having a large island is impossible 2 is much different from any of the games and retail versions from steam and gog have a hard time working on modern systems so I have little opinion of it.. 3 and 4 are pretty much the same but 4 has more stuff. 5 is just terrible so don't even try it.
Wow I remember this.
Great game
It's good now.
Too much effort for the dev and too complex for the players. They aren't exactly dying, but reformed as casual mobile shit like Farmville.
If you loved Sim Tower you will love Project Highrise. Specially now since they added a ton to the game and fixed their stuff up. I can't recommend this game enough. My only gripe is that I hate having to put down lines and pipes but that is a minor problem to the rest of a great game.
>1 is too hard
Sup Forums has become really casual these days. Back in the day, no one would pull this shit. In this series of games only 1 is worth playing. 3 is just a 3D remake with inferior everything. 4 and 5 just makes everything worse and honestly they're just obvious cash-ins.
It's by no means dead. Games exist, but they aren't mainstream and don't get much attention.
If you want to see an actually dead genre, look at RTS.
Does it do anything but F1?
Oddly enough, school tycoon was pretty comfy. Had a nice art direction that kept it casual and cartoony.
There were moon base and underwater base games too that I remember being decent. The names escape me right now.
To anyone whose bought them, is Parkitect any good?
>requires some intelligence to play, let alone to make
>even if you get past that, you're up against Sim City 4 and the like, good luck making something like that, faggot.
For anyone wondering theme hospital has an open source project running, I believe it's called corsix-th or something similar.
ROLLER TOASTER COCOON 2 SERVER WHEN
is the expac Vegas worth it
>lumping 4 and 5 together
Well I guess if you have no idea what you are doing 1 has the steepest learning curve. I still stand by my statement that 1 is very anti big city. If you really want to take over the whole island you pretty much have to make a lot of tiny towns in order to keep everything afloat.
For an EA game yes. Coaster creator is top notch and so is prop and building placement. Management wise it's still super rough.
Vegas expansion is awesome. Hotel managment is a bit tricky though. You first pretty much need an entire working tower first before you can start with hotels but hotel managment is super rewarding and being able to book concers and parties are fun.
I do wonder if they made more spacing for towers. I wanted to do a twin tower thing but the sizes are rather restricted.
Nigga I lumped 3 and 4 and 5 together and under one category: shit. Seriously, these guys just got the IP and made 3 games off the first one. At least with 3 they knew that they're too dumb to improve on 1, this is proven by their additions in 4. 5 is honesty a shameless cash-in the result of someone suggesting to make another "game" just to make some more money.

If there's no penalty for making wrong decisions then the entire game loses its fun. Why bother when you have so many options to save yourself from disaster that you practically get away with anything. Meanwhile in 1 if you don't plan carefully and make sure you can afford all your moves then you're in for some serious trouble. That's where the fun comes from.
I've been playing THeme Hospital literally since it came out and I was 10 years old and only this year I finally sat down and beat the whole thing.
It's one of those games where I usually got stuck on some level and just drop. Exact same as Caesar 3, which is also great which I finally beat last year.
I feel so fucking free.
as a kid, pharaoh was my fucking jam.
majesty is not bad either from what i remember.
i enjoyed 1404 far more than 2070, though admittedly i didn't really give 2070 much of a chance since i basically just wanted more 1404.
1 was wonky though and didn't feel like what it was trying to do, honestly felt like a shittier populous and grand city sims
at least in 3 and 4 it found its personality and style, even if a bit buggy
Caesar 3 is really good.
>pristine marble and gold palace surrounded by literal dung huts
feels good to be a god among men
Tropico 4 if you're after modern games. Stay away from 5.
Reminder that we'll never get another Theme Hospital from Bullfrog cus of EA
So annoyed that Tropico 4 won't run in the background. Pauses when it loses focus.
Majesty is literally COMFY: the simulator. It's a shame that there's very little micromanagement and most of it is up to luck, but once you've got a good kingdom going, it's mad comf.
Why do you need that? With triple fast forward you can skip a lot of time quickly.
SimCity 2000 is still my absolute favorite
How? What did 3 or 4 add in terms of personality and style? It's all from 1. If you think 1 is shit then you also have to think the whole series is shit because they really didn't change anything serious as they were simply rehashes for money. They're shitting one out every two years now with expansion and DLC. The core gameplay is still the same and wasn't just unimproved but it was made worse and mostly meaningless.
I get angry every time I think of how many devs have been killed by those cunts. Bullfrog's death being the biggest offender for me.
>age 14
my sides
Godfuckingdamnit, Dinopark. I actually had a solidly running park, good enough I was able to buy what looked like a super dino, a singing lounge lizard type. Stupid expensive, like platinum trophy shit, so of course its goofy.
I go to buy it, and the egg fucking breaks. not a game mechanic - its just a troll item.
Rimworld, while more of a base builder game, is pretty good for all the micro-management it offers. Just wish I could find an overhaul to get rid of the sci-fi aspect and make it either a regular post-apocalyptic game or something reminiscent of the Old West.
>religious whore
>we won't get Sim Golf 2 too
fuck this gay earth
>age 14
damn
I like to play games that can run in the background while I work, since my work requires both my monitors.
I guess I could leave it paused in the background, but it'd feel better to me personally if it were running in the background.
Not denying it's a great game though - definitely not.
...
Boss, those are just kids.
fatties like that are a damned near exclusively north american issue - the whole high fructose corn syrup thing is really killing us dead.
I like Prison Architect
I wish there was a game like the Movies but not shit.
Let's admit it, you love it, I love it, you probably want to download it again, but it's shit.
Your prison is shit.
AI for Tropicans in 1 is retarded for starters. It ends up being a chore to manage them because having a house even a block away from their work is too far. Even when you jack up the wage for services you need Tropicans are too stupid to go for it or simply refuse too. Because of this any town with a population over 40 needs a corn farm in the middle of it because Tropicans and teamsters do not want to talk that far to get or deliver food.
Because of all of this, the managment of the factions is actually less about apeasing them politically and more about how to deal with the retarded AI. In my current game for example I'm in dog shit with the religouse faction simply because my tropicans are to stupid to become priests, even though I have 6 apparments right next to the church.
The Movies feels rushed as fuck. Best evidence of this is that every actor and actresses look identical, yet I remember they promised that you could make any famous movie actor in the game yourself before release. Its Peter Molyneux though.
>"you can do ANYTHING YOU WANT in this game"
>you actually can't
>tfw kept making shitty movies I forgot to train my actors
Is there a mod to switch the annual budget to monthly, like on SimCity 4? It's pretty frustrating to have to wait one year to get 5 more simoleons to buy a new power plant. I have the original CD, but I don't play because it's boring to wait one entirely year to build something. I prefer SimCity 3000 to SimCity 4.
