Muh story

>muh story

>muh muh

A bit overrated, but still fine as a game.

This, on the other hand
>play game, expecting a well-written plot hidden underneath something that uses cutesy Pokemon as main characters
>only three characters matter in the main storyline
>one is a mute, one is constantly dragging you down and is an unlikeable pain to be around, and one is generic stoic shonen hero who wasn't really the villain (what a twist)
>the rest of the cast is what amounts to a horrible checklist of anime cliches
>first half of the game has you fucking around until suddenly things get overly dark just because
>stoic guy's sacrifice doesn't mean shit because he was cardboard through and through
>hero's sacrifice doesn't mean shit either because he gets brought back two seconds later
>any loose ends get handwaved as "Darkrai did it"
>entire postgame plot is the same random nonsense as the main plot's first portion, along with Darkrai telling you to kill yourself just to be dark for the sake of it
>Special Episode 1 and 3 revolve around the anime cliche cast and hardly makes them out to be good characters, 4 revolves around literal whos
>Special Episode 5 revolves around stoicman, but hardly expands on the post-apocalyptic setting of the future. Darkrai doesn't show up despite his goal being achieved in this time period. Ending makes stoicman's sacrifice even more pointless since he was okay all along
>Special Episode 2 was fine
Being better than the main games' plot doesn't mean much if it still sucks.

>mfw this is STILL my favorite pokemon game despite all of this

>Expecting good writing from a pokemon game
Dude it was a nice fun adventure, like Chrono Trigger

Everyone keeps praising Sky for its writing, so of course I expected it to be good

the characters in ttyd are great, but the story is so god damn boring
always liked pm64 much more than ttyd

The story is nothing remarkable, it's all about
>muh writing and characters

>when my little sister played the game
>she didn't know that if she hit the whacka too much it would die

>falling for the PMD memes.
Only furries like PMD.

the overarching story is nothing special but the individual scenarios are great
>wandering about hooktail's castle
>the glitz pit
>the train
>bodyswapping with a ghost
>going to treasure island with my man bobbery

Super Paper Mario is the >muh story game.

either you like it or not, it is still better than no story

Basically mirrored PM64 while trying it's hardest to not appear to.

How would you make the story of this game better?

I prefer Mario Story overall, except for the battle mechanics and the fact that TTYD continues on after the final battle. I would have loved to have seen toad town post-Bowser's reich.

>muh toads

Will never not be mad.
Will Ryota Kawade come back after STEAM flopped?

Eh, the basic storyline is your typical anime/adventure stuff. Quest for the # of [magic things] to stop evil. The writing, unique settings, atmosphere and memorable characters is what does it for Paper Mario. It has more of an identity than something so homogenized like Sticker Star which is described by many as "NSMB paper mario edition". Color Splash turned the notch back up a little with the writing at least. The shy guy baddie's talk was one of the highlights. A step in the right direction.

It does have it's downsides like excessive backtracking, though.

For Mario standards, the story was great. I thought the "robot that learns human emotions" trope was pretty lame though. The twist at the end legit had me surprised.

>How would you make the story of this game better?

Reduce the redundant/pointless story in the game. The Peach sections were completley pointless in TTYD and it felt like they threw them in because they were in PM64 and not because the game needed them.To elaborate in PM64 Mario doesn't know where each Star Spriit is so Peach sneaking around and fining it out is useful towards the quest. In TTYD the map tells you where to go so pretty much all but 1 of Peach's sections were pointless.

Also I'm not a fan of how eerily similar they made the end of the story to Final Fantasy III. It's almost like the plagiarised the Cloud of Darkness. The villain(Xande/Grodus) being tricked into releasing a monster(Cloud of Darkness/Shadow Queen) due to his own desires. The four heroes of darkness in FFIII parrallel with the four heroes in TTYD. The scene where the heroes are hopelessly stuck and it flashes to all the allies you met and that allows the heroes to continue.

>either you like it or not, it is still better than no story

I'd rather the game have less story than a story that's really simple but stretched out with dull exposition and repeated information. Super Paper Mario was even worse.

If you HAVE to do a story based entirely around toads, then at least Color Splash is a decent effort.

According to the Nintendo Power May 2007 interview Kawade was responsible for changing Paper Mario in the first place.

...

While super was controversial it isn't on SS/CS levels so I'd take Kawade back
and the team actually tried to go back to the classic RPG style before miyamoto shot it down

Super was a worse game than SS and CS and this one here basically reveals Kawade's favourite part of Super Paper Mario is an intentionally annoying sequence where you have to do tedious stuff to collect Rubies to pay off the debt.

Even if he came back he basically talks as if he would have been fully behind Sticker Star and Color Splash.

How was super worse? Only because of the gameplay?
At least your attacks aren't consumable and you still get stuff from enemies that add some (even if a bit shallow) progression

Muh dik

>How was super worse? Only because of the gameplay?

Also the character design and level design. The story was an absolute mess to boot.

I've always liked the models for big enemies in TTYD
don't like SS/CS since they are all made of visible cardboard now to shove in your face the arts and crafts theme

...

>that cute vivian tummy

>Not standard Game Over when answered "Yes"
Wased Potenial

10 years later I still want to fuck the Shadow Queen.

The aesthetics of TTYD was top fucking notch. It moved ever so slightly away from the "ITS FUCKEN PAPER AND CARDBOARD" theme of Paper Mario, but maintained the art style and everything looks fucking great.

What was the problem with the Peach sections though? They were pointless but then, so was everything else that isnt strictly to do with the main quest. You cant trim all the fat or the game lacks substance.

I liked getting see more and more of the x-naut base and learn more about them from Peach and the creepy sterileness of everything they do.
And the revelation that you're on the moon was pretty cool.

>mia, here I go again

Watching this on gamegrumps. It looks like total garbage.
Guaranteed everyone defending it in this thread is underaged.

This. Kill yourselves, cucks.

I know this is bait and I'm still mad.

How in the fuck would any kid find this attractive
When i saw her for the first time i was pretty terrified

>game grumps
>hating on one Sup Forums's top10 favourite games
>calling others underage
10/10 bait

>dominant boss monster MILF with dick-sucking lips

How in the fuck would any kid not find this attractive?

>their most recent episode they spend nearly 20 minutes looping around the moon not knowing they can break rocks with bobbery

Jesus, how embarrassing.

Like seriously, I can't believe Nintendo would design a game like this, the game should really just tell you that you can break moon rocks in the first place so people don't accidentally loop around an area for too long. What a huge oversight.

hey look the only good rpg

>"puzzles" that consist of trying everything with everything
>non-puzzles that consist of doing the same thing 100 times
>memetastic writing that feels neither hip nor authentic
>environments include poop town and monochrome land
>forgettable soundtrack that might as well not exist
>combat that is little more than a series of quick time events
>game loves wasting your time to show its contempt for you
Yeah, real winner you've picked there champ.

It's more like they are too dumb to know how to play, even when using a walkthrough
>not using hammer throw on the spiked para buzzies when they used it before on other enemies
Even a 3 year old would know to use bobbery on cracked rocks

Gameplay is more important than story, even in an RPG. The sooner you people understand that, the better.

The Paper Mario series just needs a new gameplay concept, preferably something more action-oriented than previous entries.

>new gameplay concept
>action oriented
Please fuck yourself user, i want my comfy RPG with badges, low numbers and action commands back

>princess reimu
I had no idea I needed this until now

...

>mia

it will never be real user
