This is what kids used to do with their free time.
Dedicating what they had between school and other responsibilities to something they loved, engaging in the community with a network of like-minded people, moving forward the hobby as a whole because they cared deeply about it, many doing it without expecting compensation.
Sure, it might have been awkward and weird, but a lot of things at that age are.
Now what do they have? Manipulative content creators playing social media/pop culture interest combinatorics with the top games by playerbase in order to make the most profit.

Making pixel-style art out of cotton blocks or red-stone machines seems kind of cool, reminds me of Wiremod and E2 from gmod.
My post is moreso insight into the normalization of the networks we use on the net and how it affects things like vidya communities.
More and more attention is given to content creators who make profitable content, not necessarily to those who care.
People are more and more consuming content than thinking to create it, lending to these communities becoming much more monolithic and service-oriented, much like the net is now.
