That was really shocking to me as the time and I thought it was a genius twist to prove how smalltime we all were compared to the unknown.
Then Togashi reused it again in HxH by classifying the Chimera Ant incident as B in terms of danger and it felt lazy.

If you are talking about sensui henchmen, you are wrong, only reason why they are a threat to the team is that they don't just outright kill em. Like the doctor, acqua jelly boy, videogame kid, the big eating dude (he would be an actual cool match for Toguro since he's his brother after the take over), and sensui's sexy gay partner. Remember that Meshi could have fried them all with a super spiritgun during the chase, but since they had Kuwabara, he couldn't just kill him, as well as stopping their plans at breaking the yokai barrier. Although, the guy in the taboo room is a piece of shit.
