That's what I liked about Witcher 2. It's built around you wanting to mind your own shit but you constantly get dragged into politics making huge decisions that you want no part of. 3 allowed for too much distancing from politics in my opinion.

For the Witcher 1, being neutral was your best course of action.

If you attacked the Order of the Flaming Rose or the Elves in the 4th chapter, you were fucked in the next since they would attack you.

Whereas if you just stayed neutral, your friends are glad you didn't do anything and you can even find a secret passageway into the hospital that you can use.

It was nice for a game to reflect what Geralt felt, he wanted to stay neutral and if you do you get an easier time.
