Dude, her writing is terrible. She was an assassin to kill boss, until he crippled her for life and burned her skin off, and now she loves him. If she wears clothes, she dies, if she talks she dies. She received godlike powers, but was completely irrelevant to the plot, and might as well have not existed.

It's nice that Kojima got to fap to Joust, but this was a fucking awful character. There is absolutely nothing right with this character. If they gave D-Dog a sniper rifle and erased Quiet entirely, it would have been a better game.

She comes to resent XOF more for turning her into a monster and initially uses Venom to help enact her revenge, her entire recruitment mission is a ruse, she pulls all her punches and deliberately lets you win so she can get onto motherbase. In fact every every principle member of the cast is using Venom to service their own agenda and has no real loyalty to him, the difference is that Quiet comes to love him and truly believe in him after witnessing his prowess as a warrior throughout the game post-recruitment, everyone else besides D-Dog remains a traitorous cunt and even then you can't trust him either because Ocelot trained him, Quiet's ultimately the only one that really has your back and this fact is meant to make it hurt all the more when she leaves.

If you pay attention to the guard dialogue in the early game you learn that she's been deliberately targeting the soviets working with XOF and you'll also realise her hunting grounds are along the main road that supplies OKB Zero and the Soviet's main base.

This is also why she's so viciously hated at motherbase, many of the soldiers you recruit probably have friends that she killed and this resentment also feeds into the mission where she leaves motherbase and the soviets try to take revenge on her.

If you just look at the sniper skulls you'll also realise they have the same abilities as Quiet and that Quiet must have escaped before they could finish the transformation process.

If you can into subtext she's actually pretty well executed and fits quite nicely into the bigger picture.

Those were her orders, but she broke out early, spent months brutally murdering XOF collaborators in the desert, joined the enemy and ultimately swore to never speak a word of english.

But of course circumstances forced her hand on that last one.

This demonstrates why I have such a hard time deciding whether this is actually a good game or not. There's good lore and meaning behind the writing, but it doesn't result in a well-told story. For example, I really like the concepts behind the twist ending, but it was executed terribly. There is depth intended for Quiet, but most of it is told poorly, or entirely untold.
