Old Vidya Tech

Tube TVs are now old enough that the majority of Sup Forums grew up without them. I wonder what kids think when they see how people use to play video games. these kind of questions keep me up at night.

so yeah, tube TVs. What does Sup Forums think of them?

I still have all of my SD consoles hooked up to a CRT, it's how they were meant to be played.

Better option when playing non-HD games but fuck lugging a big ass tube TV around.

>How they were meant to be played

Can you elaborate on that?

Tube TVs are furniture user. You put them in one spot & they stay there. I don't move my refrigerator or couch around all the time either.

Step aside
>games transmitted via fucking satellite
>available only for a short time schedule (usually an hour or so)
>menu is instead a big earthbound like map and shit
>loads of vidya US never got, and JPN never got on cart
>that fucking ST. GIGA load screen
>Voice acting and CD quality music because of the broadcast magic
Shit was tight
Too bad it died off, but it makes sense for it to

SD crts dont upscale the image like modern HDTVs do, so input lag is almost non-existent.

>That one kid who had a Neo Geo Pocket instead of a GameBoy

Games used to be designed around the effects of CRT displays. Dithering, for example, is meant to blend pixels together and give the impression of greater color depth not possible on early graphics hardware. Also early 3D games lacked anti-aliasing because CRTs would slightly blur the edges anyways.

They're big
They're heavy
They suck and if you get close enough you can count the pixels

Also one almost fell on my little sister

That's really only applicable to speed runners isn't it?

>They're big
>They're heavy
>They suck

Yeah, fuck Pianos.

it's applicable to any game that requires precision inputs, like shmups or rhythm games

Maybe.
But there are plenty of twitchy platformers and the like that do benefit from this.

Is that why they don't really make those genres anymore?

How is a blurry mess better than a set of crispy pixels? If I take any pixel art image and blur it in Photoshop, does it make it better? The antialiasing point does make sense, even though I can't imagine reading tiny fonts (see: lists, disk managers in Windows etc.) on a display that blurs everything.

is she hot?

Better Black levels than most modern displays though. OLED is beautiful though.

it's why they're mostly regulated to japanese arcades now

because youre thinking in terms of modern 32bit graphics, not 320x200 16color games, which benefited from crt displays greatly

Is that the fishing girl with big DD's?

Yes. Yes it is.

>that lone, empty figure stand
Every time.

I had one so old it catched fire by itself one night when I was a kid LOL

Whats going on here?

Good point
>he never even played games on CRT monitors

Modern LCD displays. They have LEDs behind the screen, so you get "light bleed" due to the light source not being uniform.

>Still use my CRT TV as primary game display
>Still use Windows XP
>Phone is a Nokia from 2005
>Don't have any social media accounts, keep all my info private
>Most of music library is from mid-2000s and back
>Most of game library is from mid-2000s and back
>Always browsing archive.org and reminiscing about old websites and how they used to look and how different the Internet was

2006 was the last real year. Everything after it is fanfiction.

My life got a lot worse after 2006
Not surprised

That was when everyone got on the internet due to having computer phones. A year later retro game prices started to skyrocket so I agree.

Hmm... this would be super nice if the TV wasn't on the floor like that.

kids today are so apathetic that they honestly don't seem to care about anything.

>Why didn't they Pokemon GO to the POLLS!!!!

The internet is just too damn distracting. I play more games while on vacation than I do at home, even though I have a much worse selection abroad.

i mean, not just politics. apathy has seeped into grade schools even. kids barely give a shit anymore about anything but the most superficial and current trends, as shallow as they are now, and even in pursuing these trends they seem neutral/indifferent. they shrug at all questions, can't tell you what they even enjoy about the trends they show interest in, and now schools are teaching them to even second guess the rational concept of the two genders.

how bout you take some of that wood and build yourself a damn table

it's not my wallet.

Have you ever even talked to a child?

just spent all day with my 12 yr old brother at the local exhibition fair thing (rides and food and etc). he didn't ask to ride anything, hardly said a word, and shrugged at everything
also his hair is fucking pink and he has an ear piercing
the modern generation was a fucking mistake

he just hates hanging out with you because you're a loser

>his hair is fucking pink

Doesn't sound like Generation Zyklon to me.

>his hair is fucking pink and he has an ear piercing
sounds like shit parenting to me

>Kids these days

This. Kid isn't being hit enough by his parents. Needs to go mow some lawns & spend that on hard earned vidya. You appreciate the games you get a lot more if you earn them.

>also his hair is fucking pink and he has an ear piercing
why are so many people on Sup Forums of all places such hardcore traditionalists?

Pink hair & earnings on a young boy is not ok. when the fuck did that turns into being a hardcore traditionalist?

giving enough of a shit about a kid coloring their hair or wearing earrings is to get pissed off about it is stuck-up-parents tier behavior

>not wanting a kid to look like a faggot is something only stuck up parents do in 2017

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among young people ages 10 to 24. you don't want your kid bullied to death for his pink hair & earrings.

>Mexicans have been busting up CRTs on my block

Apparently there's like $3.00 worth of copper in them. Hurts every time I see it happen.

most people just don't care, nigger, maybe you should try it

They care enough to judge the kid's shit parents, but not enough to do anything (not like there's anything they can do anyway).

Dude he's fucking 12, he's not 7. He's not a toy, he's almost an adult, believe it or not he doesn't want to do child shit. I know cause I was like that, adults would still try to treat me like a child despite me being fully formed and it kind of fucked me up.
