When was the last time you bought a game on a whim without researching what it was prior? Did you end up liking it?

Disgaea 1 for the ps2 a while back
was pretty fun
I haven't purchased a game in years. I'm just holding until the Action Platformer Resurgence of 2019 takes shape.
I went into Pirate Warriors 3 basically blind to Musou. I enjoyed it, though the fact that it involved One Piece probably helped a lot.
Decided to get into weebshit this summer, bought persona and yakuza games having zero idea of what they were about. Not dissapointed, gonna go down this path even further
Ark a long while back. And no, I do not like it.
Rainbow six
No
It was shit
Hah, I was the opposite, I enjoy musou but knew and cared nothing about One Piece, just heard it was good. Turns out it's one of the best of recent years, and it got me into One Piece.
Contact for the ds. Ended up liking it. Picked it up for the cover art.
Today. I just pre ordered cuphead cause of dem hand drawn backgrounds. Hopefully it's worth the $20.
The bosses and the artstyle are the only thing that really appeal to me.
Its doesnt really seem like something I would play more than once.
Demon souls, Man was I in for a surprise.
XCOM EU
Ended up becoming my favorite game series since MGS is now dead in the water
Overload, about a month ago and I have 50 hours so far, I really like it, the weapons are very fun to use.
That was Killer is Dead
Ended up loving it
I'll take the box
GameStop guy talked me into preordering The Division
I liked it
>Buy used Tearaway for my Vita
>Its actually Wipeot 2048
>some faggot put effort into printing a small tearway label and pasted it over the wipeout cart, box cover is actually poorly printed
It was my very first Wipeout, and it was utter shit.
Tearaway is garbage, be glad you got wipeout.
Without knowing about what the game was I guess it would be 100% Orange Juice. Friend recommended it by saying I will hate it.
Hes completely correct, I absolutely hate that fucking game. Why can't I stop?
I never got Tearaway for Vita, but I played it on PS4 when it was on PS+, it was ok.
rumble roses, to this day my dicks still thanks me.
Star Fox Zero. I didn't think it was quite as bad as others say it was, but its still not a good game.
Everything I made was cropped porn with butterflies being titties and my wind a giant ass.
Subnautica. Heard recommendations but also comments from other people that told me to not look up the wiki to not spoil myself the game.
I like it. Got tired of it for now tho. Finding leviathans for the first time without knowing about them was really fucking spooky too.
West of Loathing
It's a little shallow but it's pretty fun overall
Got a Switch for cheap so i picked up Zelda and debated between Arms and Mario + Rabbids. Decided on Mario because I don't have any friends with Switches to play arms with
It's a pretty fucking great game desu
Dota 2. Came from TF2 because Valve made it. Paid for the shit 2 days before it became F2P. Worth it though.
Sleeping Dogs. Fucking loved it.
I found some of the tracks from furi on YouTube and liked them
I checked out the steam page, thought it looked interesting enough, and found myself one of the top 10 games of the decade
This
>tfw final phase music kicks in for any boss
DOTA 2 was always free to play. Unless you bought a beta key?
Pac-Man: Ghostly Adventures or whatever it's called.
The spaghetti falling from my pocket when the same lady who served me that morning was issuing my refund the same afternoon. I wanted Pac-Man World 4, not that shit.
I didn't buy it. But when I was younger I saw a commercial for this game where you make your own dinosaur and destroy stuff, or something like that. So I asked my grandma for it for Christmas. Looking back I think all I told her was it was a dinosaur game. With that little information she ended up buying me Dinosaur king for the DS. While first upset because it was wrong, I quickly grew to enjoy this game and at the time it was my favorite game.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
Hated it, the whole thing was libtard-tier brainwashing. Likeable characters replaced by negroes, every hub was supposed to make you feel sympathetic for muslim terrorist trash in Europe, the whole black lives matter shit but with augs, the game was no longer about being red pilled about globalist agendas and it became a game promoting globalist agendas right from the desk of George fucking Soros.
What a piece of shit game.
Morrowind
was pretty great desu
Yakuza 1 for the PS2 about a decade ago. One of the best financial decisions I've ever made.
XCOM: enemy unknown I bought on blind whim when it was released. Shit was fantastic to someone who never played something of that genre
enslaved odyssey to the west was the last random game i bought. was ok and interesting to see how the last of us ripped off the entire premise
Danganronpa
Kyoko is best girl
King Kong in 2005. It was excellent.
Rayman Origins
destiny 2. although i did almost max out my character in the first game and owned all the dlc and shit so I wasn't new to destiny.
did go into the second one totally blind and I'm loving it.
I bought Persona 5 on a whim. I went in to buy the The Witcher 3, but the guy ringing me up talked me into P5 instead. It was my first Persona and I had never looked into the series before. Amazing decision.
I bought Deus Ex: MD without much research other than the plot and enjoyed the fuck out of it. The plot wasn't ultra compelling, no. It seemed pretty generic dystopian society based storyline. I didn't get any of the BLM vibes you got from it though. The gameplay was fun.
Magician Lord on the Switch because it looked like a cool game with wizards and shit.
At least it was only eight bucks. I can't fucking deal with how every time you die you have to deal with like five seconds of black screen only for it to put you right back where you were, and it has some of the most absolute horseshit enemy placement I have ever seen.
And this is from someone who can beat Metal Slug 3 on less than "five bucks" worth of continues.
dawn of war 3, you know the rest
Bomberman R, so my friends and I would have something other than Zelda to play at launch for the Switch. It was... OK. Not stellar, but OK. Currently, the game's sitting on a shelf while the Switch is literally our new Wii U (Mario Kart, Splatoon, and soon Pokken).
The Talos Principle.
I was surprised and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Port Royale 2, yes.
Undertale, I thought it was pretty enjoyable. Though I wouldn't want anyone to know I liked it.
yakuza 0, I had just finished replaying sleeping dogs and wanted another crime game so I picked it up on a whim not having played any of the others or knowing much more about it than the title, it's pretty good planning on playing through the rest now
I bought Deus Ex back in 2013 and now it's one of my all-time favorite games
>Starcrawlers
It was fun for a bit but then combat became a tedious chore
Fallout 4
No
Defiance
Buying an MMO for full price is a mistake
Assassin's Creed 3
No
WHAT'S IN THE BOX?
Satellite Reign. Steam kept shoving it in my face when I was playing Shadowrun.
It wasn't shadowrun so I hated it.
MH4U
put about 1000 hours into the series since so yeah i'd say
Bought Sundered the day it released because I like metroidvanias.
Considering that level design and enemy placement are extremely important to the genre, it was definitely a bold decision to have procedurally generated rooms and infinitely-spawning enemies that swarm you with unavoidable damage.
Dark Souls
Literally the only footage I'd seen of it was a webm of Ash Lake and I felt in love with the aesthetics/atmosphere. One of the best games I've ever played.
Dorksouls 2 and it didnt work on pc with a controller. No did not like.
driveclub, i hated it and returned it within a day
Bought Nier Automata without knowing anything other than 2b was hot. I finished all of it like a month ago and loved it. Beautiful game.
I usually have very good luck with this.
>Game has beta, everyone discussing it
>Ignore it
>Hours before game is out friend sends a 5 minute gameplay video
>Can tell if I'd like it from that alone because I'm not a complete retard, decades of playing videogames make detecting games I like easy as fuck.
I'll never understand the retards that get sucked into hype fests with 0 gameplay footage, or gameplay footage that OBVIOUSLY unrealistic as fuck, you should be able to tell by now that 4K trailer from E3 is going to get downgraded retard, it's been happening for years.
I don't even remember anymore. But then again, I'm ultra autistic about checking the quality and actual content of everything I want to buy, so it's no wonder that I do the same with vidya too. Of course I don't want to see any spoilers or stuff, but I just can't justify myself paying for a game if I don't have a good idea about what it's about, how much there is stuff to do in it, and what others like or hate about it.
Mad Max
>Did you end up liking it?
Fuck yes I did. It's a shame they chose to release it the same day as MGSV
Dark Souls 1 back in like 2013. I knew nothing about it going in except for the "so hard" meme. Still one of the best games I've ever played, don't even care if I get called a soulsbabby.
I bought Wolfenstein: TNO off a Target clearance rack for 8$. I don't usually like FPS's but man that was an awesome ride all the way through.
Prey (the new one)
Yeah it was pretty sweet
good choice
@op
probably brigador last february
or maybe rainworld
you are the cancer
DMC4 literally knew nothing about the series but I enjoyed it
NGB, after playing the Nioh beta I was interested in team ninja and remembered that this game was supposed to be the hardest shit ever when it came out. Now its one of my favorite games, the only one I can undoubtedly say is 10/10.
Dark Side of the Moon, mostly just to show it to my Dad as a joke. Still need to get around to it.
Demon souls.
I've played every souls game since so that goes to show you.
That felt like a magical time.
I realize how much of a fag this makes me sound but Kyoko is my first legit crush on a game character
Dragon quest heroes 2 , yea I like it.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this game had the bad guy be the protagonist. Not enough games do that with out giving you a Good/Evil meter. I just wish more games were about being a villain.
Ori, Nier automata, Limbo
Thought they were great
Monolith
great purchase honestly
I was surprised to find out it was an agdg game once I finally saw the credits
Years ago I went to the store and I bought Timesplitters 3, Resident Evil 4, and Ace Combat 5 without really knowing anything about any of them. Fuck that was a good purchase
Always too much of a risk to do this, though a year ago I bought Murdered: Soul Suspect without knowing a thing about it.
Was a mistake desu, I always research for any game now.
>Shadow of Mordor
I went in with no expectations and had a good time
I think it was Star Wars Bounty Hunter for the GameCube sometime in 2004. I like it.
Kingdom of Amalur. Yes.
Unless reading the ad counts as research in which case it would be Red Alert 3. And no.
>Persona 5
When it was announced, I didn't look anything up even though I'm a fan of the SMT/Persona series. I'm glad I didn't.
Owlboy.
Not for the price I paid.
God Eater 2
>Did you end up liking it?
No it tried to be monhun with cutscenes but the story is fucking awful, characters too bland, aragami designs are garbage, maps way too small, grating anime orchestral soundtrack, and most importantly the combat was shit and unsatisfying.
I hope this shit never gets a sequel or releases in the west ever again.
The juice compels you
well I bought the Patrician tonight on GOG because it looks fun but I haven't played it yet. The last thing I've actually pulled the trigger on blindly and beaten was Hellblade. It was worth the $30
Ice cream surfer
Not a bad little shmup but it was basically a game still in beta. Thanks to Sup Forums I tend to have an idea for just about everything worth a shit, though the last physical game I picked up by just a look at the covers was baten kaitos origins and holy shit that was a great find.
Night in the Woods
Cute game severely held back by its 0/10 ending.
I picked up Warriors Orochi 3 like a day before Hurricane Harvey hit with my last $20 after buying a bunch of groceries. It was pretty fun but had a lot of flaws. Like what the fuck is with the pop-in, lousy camera and guaranteed enemy hero musou attacks which lock on? Also while the game had a HUGE amount of content which is nice, the time travel mechanic gets used to justify a lot of lazy shit. You'll fight the same 10 demon officers at least a dozen times a piece and they have a total of two lines of dialogue. Then you'll have to play a 'redux' version of a stage (it's basically the same with some new dialogue and maybe a new route or event) half the time to do some trivial thing which will prevent a character from dying offscreen so they can join your army. The graphics were also pretty iffy as well, but it was on both PS3/360 and the current gen systems so that's to be expected.
