I'm sure y'all have talked about this by now - have you guys seen the YouTube doc about Polybius?
It's a neat, but creepy, documentary about Polybius - a 1981 arcade game that... doesn't exist. It's like a mystery. Kind of an urban legend/Project MK Ultra + vidya thing. It's on YouTube. youtube.com/watch?v=_7X6Yeydgyg
Does anyone remember this game? It seems like I remember it from hotel arcades/game rooms and even, like, on Nick Arcade?
James Phillips

i stopped watching this vid yesterday after about 20 minutes because i realized the whole thing was spoiled in the title and everything he was going to tell me about was going to be fake so whats the point
Zachary Davis
Yeah? I'd literally never heard of the legend until now. It seems like Polybius is just something that was back in the day. Almost like a Mandela Effect thing.
Jeremiah Gray
No shit it's fake and always was, the meat of the video was the tracking of the actual origin of the story.
Ryder Ross
Where did it originate? And when?
Daniel Wilson
skip around in the video near the 40 minute mark

Some Kurt dude bought the domain of an arcade collecting website circa 2000. Inexplicably adds an entry about Polybius and makes up shit about it. Spreads rumor to one of the biggest gaming magazines at the time, and a writer gets baited to write about it, supposedly to increase traffic on his website. Snowballs into the urban legend it is today.
