SNES(FFIII) or PS1

GBA or SNES with a bugfix patch.
The gameboy version has bonus content but SNES has better audio quality.
It really just depends on which of those things are more important to you.

GBA has a more accurate translation and is uncensored from what I hear, never actually played it myself

The Iphone version is the one that sucks shit.
The GBA port is really good for the most part and has a couple extra bonus dungeons.
Given the hardware they had to work with I'd say they did fine on the soundtrack.
Also forgive me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure there's a patch out there to fix the music. I vaugely remember that being a thing.

I would guess it's a retranslation patch to make the game more like the Japanese version. Swearing is not considered as big a deal in Japan as it is in the west, but some of the fan-translations do go a bit overboard with it.
