Hey Sup Forums, I need help finding a very obscure game that I'm pretty sure only I've ever played.
It was like lego loco in that it was a 2d, Top-down, non-isometric game involving trains. It did not have any form of gameplay other than pure sandbox. Therefore it could not be openttd or any of the tycoon or sid meier games.
This was back in my windows xp days, before 2004. It had an almost windows 95 interface, and had a very large view of the map, with trains being controlled almost like model trains. You could also set houses and other pieces, like a model train set.
Oddly enough, it was a game I found on a free site, and had packages advertised as DLC trains and stuff.
It was the most autistic thing I had ever encountered as a kid, and I kinda want to revisit it again.
No, it was top-down, and trains were very small. You would place the track and setting, and it was very much sandbox-esque.
Also it was 2d, your game is very much 3dish

OpenTTD
Brandon Campbell
one of the old a-train games maybe? or ttd?
Josiah Allen
It wasn't openTTD, as the rails you could place had fluid curves, and it had no isometric view or grid layout.
Plus openttd had money, this game didn't

Also, think less windows 95, more windows xp-era
Aaron Sanders
Ah, I see.
Parker Russell
this sounds really interesting

Also, I think I found this game back in the day from some scummy freeware download website.
I was a dumb kid who would go to freewarefiles.com and other places. I already checked freeware files though, Pretty sure they didn't have it.
It felt like almost an indie game from way-back-when. It was either supported by trial and professional versions, or wierd dlc-type systems that had locked you out of content.

Sounds like it could be some old shareware game. I've tried searching for it but I can't seem to find something that is both top-down and matches your drawing.

This thread triggered some long dormant memory of playing a train game centered around making shipments. It ended up being the first Train Engineer for Mac: macintoshrepository.org/6071-train-engineer

I feel an 'obscure games you don't remember the name of' thread would be a good topic for here.
Jordan Martin
Closest I've found so far, what'd you think OP?
Robert Rogers
youd have better luck going to something like moby games and narrowing down to train sim, top down, year, etc.
David Sanders
Close, but it was more fullscreen and had more detail to the sprites.
Gonna try that now
Gabriel Nelson
Railroad tycoon

Loco-motion?

oh, not to steal OP's thread, but I've been trying to remember this flash game for ages. it was sort of like limbo, except color. there were puzzles in the woods and you start in a cave. it had a similar aesthetic to waterlollies, and a very relaxing atmosphere.

Knytt?
James Wood
I think I might have found it. It's a bit less 2d than I thought, but the other features fit.
