FORESKIN HATS FOR MY FINGER PUPPETS

TIME TO SCRAPE YOUR FACE FROM MY FINGER NAILS

I loved the atmosphere in the areas surrounding Fyrestone. Going solo was more fun for me

>Graveyard that you always pass on your way to board
>Only one alive man and little robot
That's kind of depressing. I had a habit of always saying hello to claptrap in fyrestone because he was all alone here.

And then they fucked it up in BL2

Noted.

I always felt like the atmosphere was ruined in 2. Don't get me wrong, 1 didn't have a amazing story or anything but it felt well for what was there. You were a greedy vault seeking bounty hunter on a backwater shithole planet abandoned by companies leaving mass amounts of people to form little shithole towns or become gangs. You weren't some anti-hero, avenger or a good guy with a score looking to settle - you were just another shitty greedy person on the planet. Pandora really gave you that feeling, the game gave you that feeling - I can't say the same things about 2.

>When you get an Ajax Ogre to drop

Will Borderlands 1 feel like a major step backwards if I try to go play it after putting 100 hours in the second game?

this

fuck lag

Not really, no.

Gearbox was never good at writing. At least they understood it in BL1 and only wrote a simple story hiding in the background.

Depends. BL1 is better when it comes to weapons. You don't need to grind as much, vendors often have blue or purple weaponary (sometimes even orange) and even lower tier weapons can be used for a longer period of time, before they begin to underperform. The end game balance is also better, since they didn't release extra levels as DLC back then.
Your abilities on the other hand are not as powerful, so you don't need to base your whole playstyle around it.
If you liked BL2's map diversity, then BL1 will disappoint you. You get dust, dust and more dust until the last main story stage, which mixes things up a bit.
The other big shock would be the FOV, which is really low. However you can easily tweak it on PC.

The writing doesn't really become Unbearable until the Pre-Sequel. There are some tryhard lines in BL2, but none of the groaners are THAT bad, and Handsome Jack is a legitimately good villan.

To understand the writing in The Pre-Sequel, on the other hand, just imagine that the dialogue was written by Sup Forums doing their best caricature of BattleBorn dialogue.

No Joke, a side quest in the tutorial has a male character getting rejected by a Lesbian (a detail she has made known 3 times already), at which point the male character yells out "FRIENDZONED!!!!". The he later apologizes with a rant about how the term is misogynistic.

I wish I was kidding.

1 doesn't have any of the quality of life changes 2 has (auto-pick up ammo and money, respecing is free, being able to move while downed, DLC actually has fast-travel, etc) but it also has less shit holding it down (don't need to spend a secondary currency to buy SDUs, talent trees are basic but functional and easy to understand, all weapons are functional, linear scaling, and a simple story that isn't obnoxiously shoved in your face).

Handsome Jack is a great antagonist

If you can give Gearbox credit for one thing, they know how to make great environments, and vistas. The Zombie Island Of Dr. Ned is worth replaying for the environments, alone.

I liked the atmosphere in 2 a lot, but they do feel the need to push the whole 'Vault Hunter' thing, even though you don't have much of a reason to give a shit about the Vault anymore. That said, Gearbox is pretty good at pairing distinct locations with great ambient tracks.

youtube.com/watch?v=2Y4emYPQj5Y

>Butt Stallion XD

southern shelf ambient always got me back into the game

Knoxx is better.

I feel like Pre-Sequel's writing was so shit because Burch didn't get his BAFTA so he stopped trying and forced his agenda.

O, that this too too solid flesh would melt, Thaw and resolve itself into a dew! Or that the Everlasting had not fix'd His canon against self-slaughter! O God! God! How weary, stale, flat and unprofitable, Seem to me all the uses of this world! Fie on't, ah fie, 'tis an unweeded garden, That grows to seed; things rank and gross in nature Possess it merely. That it should come to this! But two months dead, nay not so much, not two, So excellent a king, that was, to this Hyperion to a satyr, so loving to my mother That he might not beteem the wings of heaven Visit her face too roughly. Heaven and earth, Must I remember? Why, she would hang on him, As if the increase of appetite had grown By what it fed on; and yet within a month - Let me think not on't; frailty, thy name is woman - A little month, or ere these shoes were old With which she followed my poor father's body Like Niobe, all tears, why she, even she - O God, a beast that wants discourse of reason Would have mourned longer - married with my uncle, My father's brother, but no more like my father Than I to Hercules. Within a month, Ere yet the salt of most unrighteous tears Had left the flushing in her gall'd eyes, She married. O, most wicked speed, to post With such dexterity to incestuous sheets! It is not, nor it cannot come to good. But break my heart, for I must hold my tongue.

He really does a great job of portraying a character coming progressively unhinged after you kill Angel

I don't know if I can attribute that to Gearbox, though; apparently he ad-libbed a lot of his lines.

Fun Fact: His line at the beginning of the game where he says "Man, these pretzels suck," was actually recorded with a mouth full of pretzels.

He also didn't have Mikey Neumann or any other cowriters to reign him in.

>don't need to spend a secondary currency to buy SDUs
The downside to this is that you have to locate Claptraps here and there that rewards SDUs for repair quests.

There are also 5 that will sometimes reward a second SDU in playthrough 2, but it's not guaranteed, so you may or may not end up with a gigantic inventory when you're all done.

Is he lying or something? Because if you look at the references page on the Borderlands wiki, Borderlands 2 has one of the most monstrously lengthy pages of references in a single type of media I have ever seen.

even if it was just 100, it's still too fucking much

Wilhelm is best boy

Athena and Doppelganger are okay too

I like both BL1 and 2, I thought BL2 was good, it was just a case of a few steps forward, few steps back.

To be totally fair, he only co-wrote the pre-sequel, so I have no idea what extent he is actually responsible for it.

Pre-sequel lines always felt line an amateur trying to imitate Burch's writing style, and as a result, wound up making it really obnoxious.

Of course, it's also possible that he was given more creative freedom, and that's why the first character you meet is a lesbian, who constantly needs to remind you that she's a lesbian.

>He really does a great job of portraying a character coming progressively unhinged after (OMG PLOT SPOILER THINGY)

I'm not sure about that... I mean, the first thing he does after swearing to brutally murder you is send you on a joke mission and then he pays you to jump off a cliff and kill yourself.

Felt like something he should have done much earlier in the game when he was still the oddball who just wanted you dead because you were a Vault Hunter.

Jack was also voiced by the guy who did the English dub of Cell from DBZ.

Claptrap was surprisingly fun to play, but required some micromanaging.

N O. YOU NEED TO SOLVE THE RIDDLE

I really liked the unique death effects in BL1.

You know, heads popped, limbs were blown off, faces melted...

BL2 gave us generic death animations and a few mediocre elemental ones. Wish they hadn't gotten lazy with it.

I feel like the suicide mission actually fit the character progression. He's still a sarcastic jackass throughout the game, but after that point, his quips become a lot more vitriolic and mean-spirited.

Case-in-point: When he messages you with Roland's echo device after dies.

I really
really
really
want to fuck Claptrap(1 only, 2 doesn't exist)

>game has in-game explanation for player characters coming back after dying
>story still treats death as a serious and irreversible thing
it'll never not be stupid

I hate how they removed the gore elements from 1. It's not like there was a good reason to remove it either.

Eh, maybe I'm just not remembering it correctly then. I'll be playing it again before long anyhow -- fired up BL1 again a couple days ago and currently clearing out Ned's zombies in playthrough 1.

Running Mordecai currently, any suggestions for when I give 2 another go? Last time it was Salvador. Was thinking Gaige, as I'm getting attached to sending out a pet to murder things.

Too right, m8.

Especially since Hyperion are the ones bringing you back in the first place

The elemental kills from the second game onward is what really kills me. BL1 actually runs better on most PCs and looks better (the smoke particle effect is still the best one in any game I have personally played). BL2's "Phys X effects" are complete shit that causes the already blatant texture pop ins to cause the game to chug despite being runable on a toaster, and the "blood pudding" it brings makes the gore effects seem like they're outright missing instead of being bad.

Also, those Crimson Lance death screams were fucking great.
>youtube.com/watch?v=TLtZ0fCAkOs&t=97s

He also voiced announcer in the elevator in silent hill 2
Very brief role but man that sounds great

Gaige is by far my favorite character. Anarchy is unlike anything else in the base game and extremely fun.

Gaige is pretty fun with her whole Anarchy gimmick. It definitely helps kill things faster and keeps your guns a bit more relevant longer since Anarchy gives you big damage buffs if you can keep it up.

>In BL1 you can use the very first weapon you get all the way to the end of the game. It sucks, but you do deal damage with it.
>In BL2 the very first weapon you get is completely and utterly obsolete by the time you get to the second main area. You will not be able to kill even a simple enemy with full ammo capacity because the damage falls off so much.
Why did they change the numbers so much? It's not healthy at all from a gameplay balance perspective.
I didn't play the presequel but I assume it was just as bad.

love that turret

>The only good borderlands game wasn't even made by Gearbox
How and why

That's the thing. Jack is actually a shitty villain with no real or clear motive or character and was just as low quality as the rest of the game. *But* his voice actor; Dameon Clarke, is a fantastic actor, and he improvised most of Jack's script. That's where the illusion of "Jack is a great villain" comes from. It's not even a bad thing, at least someone cared enough to put some quality in the game, it's just bizarre that it came from the voice talent. Because normally in these projects they're involvement is minimal enough to where all they have to do is record without knowledge of the rest of the project and collect their paycheck.

Because if it ain't broke you may as well change it until it fucks everything up.

Normies are impressed by big numbers.
TPS is a actually a little more sane with its scaling.

It's like Christmas.

I never cared for Salvador - found gunzerker to be too situational. Gaige is fun if you have people to play with, but Krieg gets pretty good after Level 12 or so. Once you get skills that reward you for dying via suicide bombing, you have a legitimate reason to charge directly into firefights

>Of course, it's also possible that he was given more creative freedom, and that's why the first character you meet is a lesbian
Pretty much. The writers wanted to make "a friendly, likable, not-homicidal character for the player to befriend" Burch got involved and made her a lesbian, which honestly wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't paired with some seriously cringy and poor writing in other areas.

I actually liked Janey in BorderTales. She's terrible in BLPS.

We broke him, didn't we?

Yeah, Salvador wasn't the best choice.

Ah, Krieg... nearly forgot about his suicide buff route. Might have to toss a coin between him and Gaige.

>Tiny Tina and Lilith have both died in a car accident before the start of 3
please

yeah. knoxx was shill and just doing his job.

>Gunzerking situational
>Grog + literally anything with decent DPS and you're invincible
>Lady fist plus anything and you crit for 800%
Gunzerking is insane when you have the right items.

>found gunzerker to be too situational
That final dlc slag pistol from that dwarf quest made you unironically invincible for the duration.

>claptrap used to be an annoying little robot just trying to help out travelers
>anthony "faggot" burch turned him into a literal walking meme spouter

You know that feeling of 2nd degree embarrassment? I had that for a majority of my playthrough of BL2.

What the fuck happened guys. Where did things go so wrong.

i miss the evil smasher glitch and the axton speed glitch

Borderlands 1 is better than 2.

2 have too much eyecandy weird areas and funky shit.
B1 had nice rusty and dirty locals and overall grimy feel.

I hope B3 is more like B1, but with deeper systems.

>Lilith
Why?

I really dig the atmosphere in first Borderlands. Pandora truly felt like a ass end of the universe with all the old machinery scattered around.

>In BL2 the very first weapon you get is completely and utterly obsolete by the time you get to the second main area. You will not be able to kill even a simple enemy with full ammo capacity because the damage falls off so much.

This is how a game based on loot should be.

I get what you mean about the lack of clear motivation. Like, what exactly did Jack want with the Vault? I hope it wasn't just lust for power, because that would be the biggest cop-out cliche. Best I can come up with is he was just another Mega-Corporate jackass to wanted wealth and power, until you kill Angel, at which point he just wants revenge.

They tried playing that angle that he "Wanted to civilize the borderlands," but it was never really developed all that well, and it always came off as a facade from the get-go.

That being said, the performance was so good, I never really noticed the lack of motivation.

She starts shit and gets a lot of people killed with her arrogance. The main conflicts in BL2 and Pre-sequel are started because of her.

>instantly recover 50% health
>constantly regen health and ammo
>two guns for insane dps

Are you retarded?

I just finished about the latter half of the campaign recently. Is it too recent to start a Krieg run? Female Psycho playable character when?

>friend plays axton with speed glitch
>I'm playing Gaige with shield glitch
Good times.

>wurmwater battle music
>wam bam island music

So Sup Forums, what characters did you play in each game (if you did)?

I went with:
BL1 - Lilith
BL2 - Maya
BLtPS - Athena

1 roland
2 all characters except kreig and gaige, axton
3 all, mained wilhelm

>People seriously thinking jack was anything more than a shitty excuse for a nemesis.

At no fucking point I ever saw him as a notable character. He just comes off a a worthless schizophrenic idiot with a bigger hole in his head than brains or balls. He's nothing more than more xp for your character.

BL1: stated with Roland but played the other three later.
BL2: Krieg and Maya
TPS: one complete playthrough with Wilhelm but I stopped partway through with Athena

>Roland
>Krieg
>Jack Double

BL1 - Mordecai
BL2 - Axton/Gaige
TPS - Wilheim/Clone Jack

BL1- Roland
BL2- Axton

I don't even know who the rifle guy is in tps.
