First time playing this game, saw Sup Forums recommend it a bunch, and, should I play with oddities xp setting, or just go normal for my first time?
Is it harder/frustrating to go with oddities, or is the choice just based on immersion more?
Also, general Underrail thread, talk about all sorts of stuff related to it
Andrew Barnes
Go with oddities, it's the experience system the game is meant to be played with. Classic is kind of like a legacy, it came first, and the dev figured there was no reason to scrap it since some people might prefer it. But it's not balanced very well, and most players who go with classic but don't rush the game tend to hit level cap around 2/3 through.
What build are you planning to roll?
Connor Murphy
>should I play with oddities xp setting, or just go normal for my first time? Oddity is recommended for multiple reasons.
It's how the game is supposed to be played. Normal XP is more of a legacy system and is pretty unbalanced, you will reach max level way too quickly. Other than that oddity encourages exploration and allows you to level up without forcing you to be a murderhobo killing everything in his path.
>Is it harder/frustrating to go with oddities, or is the choice just based on immersion more? You will level slower with oddity, but it's more balanced. It's arguably more frustrating to reach the max level early and have no progression for the rest of the game.

You have good memory.

Is there more satisfying item than taser?
Jeremiah Reed
Motion Tracking NVGs?
Angel Peterson
Smart is more useful in my opinion.
Christopher Rodriguez
Re-stealthing with flashbangs.
Benjamin Peterson
In later game? No. In early game, the Molotov Cocktails.
>Psycho is running around in panic!
Asher Perry
If you are ranged, sure. But the more perception-challenged will appreciate any help with detection they can get.
Luke Williams
I like to sprint towards hiding crawlers after they poisoned me, it's usually just behind nearest corner, and kill the thing before stun effect.
Charles Lee
Gas grenades. Throwing in general is satisfying
Connor Green
>yfw Gas the Drones
Anthony Moore
Man that mission was annoying. It's stupid how even touching the gas sealed your fate. So many retries. At least give us some protag plot armor!
David Baker

Benjamin Roberts
oh shiet, could be much easier just shoot them, without fckin gas. double burst with smart module + anatomacal-aware scope chimera.

>guy asks for help with mushroom forest >other guy tells him to reload a save and grind
I hate it when people give bad, almost asinine advice. I hate it so much.
Christian Brown
Grind what? I'm just about to descend into caverns.
Elijah Murphy
Go normal. I fell for the oddities meme and it sucks dick. It's only useful if you decide to play as a stealth thief. For anything else, it just makes everything feel meaningless.
Also, do yourself a favor and get cheat engine and configure it to use a speed up hack. The backtracking in this game is fucking awful. Nothing has been this bad since Morrowwind and at least that had the boots of blinding speed.
Josiah Long
Grind levels. He was told to level up. As if that would help him.
Actually he finally told him the correct answer, but he fucked up one crucial detail. Which is arguably even worse than his original advice.
Charles Watson
...
Evan Ross
Really outdated.
Alexander Diaz
>fucked up one crucial detail. Which is arguably even worse than his original advice What exactly?
Benjamin Jenkins
You can literally go in, kill everybody and then gas the place and walk out the front door
Cameron Cox
>game has un-highlighting containers
Austin Williams
He told him to load a pre-DC save to search for an armor. Except that armor is in DC and it would take him about 2 minutes to pick it up. Except now he is going in the wrong direction.
Owen Lopez
Kek. I heard CAU armor is useful in here.
Henry Ross
It's useful, but not the almost total invincibility this one gives. But since it's heavy with a huge AP penalty outside the forest CAU armor is a better choice for something you just walk around in.
Andrew Morgan
>try not to make a stealth sniper because I end up playing that in every game like this >end up doing it anyway I hate crawlers so fucking much. those electric spiders were niggers too.
what happened in the hollow earth incident? the faceless were created by the researchers but revolted and threw them into the mutagen tank which created tchort? was ezra one of the researchers who survived?
Evan Hernandez
Pretty much, but Ezra may have left by the time the revolt began. He was only visiting.
Liam Nelson
Pretty sure Erza is supposed to be one of the old biocorp leaders, probably even older than that
Isaiah Gutierrez
Hollow Earth was Old Biocorp, and Ezra was there shortly, like, days before the end. We just don't know for sure if he was still around when shit went down.
Zachary Morris
Yes if i remember it right Oculus have data on Erza, he was indeed some high ranked Biocorp employee (if you can even use that word). Hope to learn more about him later. Styg using his avatar on underrail forum, so i'm pretty sure he is very important.
Good lord i can't wait for new dlc, wanna see Hexagon and all new underrail wonders.
Xavier Diaz
You know the expansion won't feature Hexagon, right?
Aaron Clark
where the fuck is the expansion FFS
Nicholas Hall
>Oculus have data on Erza But you don't know his real name.
Brayden Evans
So he already said there will be no Hexagon? I remember he said that Expedition will feature some part of north underrail. Well that's pretty sad, anyway i'm sure something he will deliver something really cool anyway, You can see how matures his work, deep caverns was close to perfect.
Alexander Cook
In due time. Patience.
Jordan Carter
We know he was a Dragon of Old Biocorp. Very few names on that list.
Christopher Flores
>So he already said there will be no Hexagon?
Yes. It is confirmed that Hexagon is strictly sequel territory, because it would be too big and too complex to do in an expansion. Expedition will explore other parts of South Underrail, and if there will be other expansions, those will too.
Evan Cox
I want stygg to make an isometric cyberpunk RPG with cooperate warfare and cool shit
fuck midgame expansions
Adam Gray
Thanks for the info mate.
Isaac Sanchez
Literally me.
Jeremiah Morris
If i were a producer of some AAA game studio i'd fought to death to have him work on a cyberpunk/sci-fi projects. Cause no shit, you can find something in underrail that cannot be found anywhere in game industry, it's even hard to find a good book with such an interesting story, i'm not even talking about sci-fi books.
Lucas Kelly
>>try not to make a stealth sniper because I end up playing that in every game like this >>end up doing it anyway I know that feel.
Isaiah Garcia
Infused pig leather is so much better than everything else it's not even funny.
Nicholas Bailey
>tfw you have only 8 tailoring for molotovs
Elijah Moore
>1 shot 1 kill >1 shot almost a kill => reload
Carter Young
Nah, I don't know that feel. Dealing with misses and such is an important and enjoyable part of the game to me.
David Bailey
Cyberpunk games don't take advantage enough of the massive flexibility in character design the setting offers. Cybernetic eyes or arms alone could have as many different models with different features as the entire perk systems of other games.
Isaac Barnes
agreed, just kiddin'
Chase Ward
How viable is an acid pistol build ? i've only played a psi build so far.
Isaac Cruz
>dev is illiterate
Gabriel Young
On another note, I think sniper rifles got to be the most customizable weapon in the entire game. I don't think any other weapon can have its behaviour changed as drastically as sniper rifles.
You can make a traditional sniper rifle that shoots only once per turn with very high close range/move penalties that is capable of dealing over 3000 damage in one shot, therefore capable of 1-shoting literally everything in the game.
Or a more tactical sniper rifle that shoots twice per turn with relatively low penalties (as low as 15% move and 12.5% close range so comparable to crossbows) that will probably cap at 1000-1500 or so, not enough for the toughest enemies.
Or anything in between. I like that.
Jaxon Sullivan
I recognize that screenshot and file name from /indie/
Charles Wright
Acid pistol alone? You can get by, but not all that great.
Chem/Energy pistol combined on the other hand is incredibly fun. Mad Chemist Incendiary Pistols are unbeatable when it comes to setting things on fire, nothing else can give you 80+% chance with every shot. Cryo is slightly less good, but still basically a better Cryokinesis with chance to freeze. Add in Electroshock pistols for chain lighting, and you have a really fucking fun repertoire with energy/acid/heat/cold/electric damage and a wide range of status effects to play with.
Anthony Hall
Sadly among the weakest in the entire game. Your damage output will be low, I'm talking one of the lowest possible. You will also need to find a way to deal with acid-immune or resistant enemies such as mutants, deep worms, majority of robots, CAU if you join the drones, etc.
You could also recognize it from daily Underrial threads on Sup Forums from 2 years ago.
Gavin Stewart
Acid/incediary/electro for CC, amplified plasma pistol for killing. Make sure to take a healthy dose of throwing. Grenadier and 3 pointer really round out the build.
Tyler Edwards
>How viable is an acid pistol build ? Pretty weak. It's the absolute king of breaking the game though.
Gabriel Lopez
What happens when you kill it like that?
Michael Evans
...
Ryan Butler
is it possible to find that anywhere without tailoring?
>keep reloading until you win initiative vs carnifex
it felt like the game was too punishing if you couldn't kill every enemy in one turn. if anyone was left alive you would end up stunned/frozen/exploded by grenades so you might as well just reload.
Benjamin Wright
>keep reloading until you win initiative vs carnifex >people claim that pistols are weak, but in reality you have first turn in every fight
Samuel Nguyen
>stunned Eat a Bullhead.
>frozen Yeah, unfortunately that doesn't really have a reliable counter. Not much you can do against that other than take them out first. Fortunately enemies that can freeze are also rare.
>exploded Turn on your shield, mate.
Adam Reyes
Nothing not intended. The game doesn't recognize that you did it at all.
Pic related.
>if anyone was left alive you would end up stunned/frozen/exploded by grenades so you might as well just reload. There are tons of ways to protect yourself from all of those even if you fail to kill everyone.
If you must hit absolutely every hit and kill everyone in the first turn in order to stay alive, you are simply bending RNG to your side to compensate for the shortcomings of your build.
Luis Morgan
Forgot the pic. Shit quality, but you should be able to figure out who's that guy on the floor.
Alexander Bailey
Absolute madman.
Jason Diaz
Yeah, pistol buils is arguably the best build against Carnifex since you can reach enough initiative to always act first.
You can also abuse map transitions since that -10 initiative penalty still leaves you with enough to act first almost always.
Connor Sullivan
Psi builds spoiled me so much, how do people even play the game whitout being able to stun anything that moves ?
Isaac Thompson
Throwing is a good trick.
Kevin Wilson
Kill anything that moves.
William Lee
What are the stand out classes in this game
Jeremiah Allen
>Adrenaline shot! >Burst! >Burst! >Burst!
Christian Butler
Psi monk, traps, and stealth.
Adam Lopez
any pure wizard psi-monk stealth sniper heavy armor AR
Adrian Flores
>become so accurate with burst you only kill one target
Unintentional gimp.
Easton James
Hard to say. It has a classless system and one of the strongest points of the game is that you can make literally dozens of builds with vastly different playstyles.
Pure psi, psi monk, sniper, metal armor assault rifle , SMG, pistol, crossbow, pure unarmed, sledgehammer, knife, energy pistol, chemical pistol, pure throwing, I could go on and on. Then there are different types of armors, combining different weapon types, adding some psi only to support your main weapon, traps, stealth, etc.
Sebastian Diaz
>only 99
What a fucking pleb
Hudson Flores
She'sa just a psychotic math teacher, not a chosen one.
Ian Ross
*blocks ur path*
Dominic Kelly
If you side with the drones do you get to kill them all?
Carson Hughes
It was hilarious when I realised what was happening, I didn't anticipate at all that I would actually become too good at killing people, especially since I made the mistake of my first crafted rifle having a compensator. Luckily by the time I realised how good smart modules were the problem had mostly resolved itself, but the midgame where I was reliably hitting 2-3 people per burst was the best.
>siding with the drones
Brayden Gray
*realizes mutants have no mechanical DR/DT whatsoever*
*unsheathes pic related*
Heh... nice try kiddo.
Jose Mitchell
drones are adorably incompetent they're like little puppies with molotovs
Samuel Richardson
No, only south outpost in lower underrail. >siding with fascists
Hunter Richardson
How to trigger two-headed mutant to appear?
Landon Gutierrez
>protectorate protects communities from bandits and gives away food to the poor
>free drones help bandits destroy communities and steal from the poor
Ryan Barnes
Crossbow without traps a possibility? I know they have synergy and traps are really good, but after using them in an unfinished former playthrough I find them tedious to use. I would max throwing instead I'm thinking.
Anthony Robinson
No reason to max throwing.
Anthony Moore
You can't. The harder you try, the smaller the chance he will appear.
I guess you could, but Deadly Snares are really hard to pass on.
Kayden Parker
Does somebody have that picture with the different builds you can try out?
I remember there being a pretty interesting psi one I wanted to try but I forgot to save the picture.
Levi Wright
>they're like little puppies with molotovs You know, you make a good point, user.
Gas the drones, metro war now etc. etc.
Charles Nguyen
>drones are adorably incompetent Quite a few doesn't even know what exactly they are fighting for.
