Just finished pic related, really enjoyed it. It felt like a less tedious Resident Evil with more environmental variety. Probably gonna start SH2 tomorrow, got all the enhancement mods and stuff for it and I'm pretty excited.

How do you guys feel about this game?

Also Silent Hill general

one of my favorite games of all time.

Really frightened me. At first the perodactyls and the dogs on the street kept killing me over and over, I mean they're so persistant!!! eventually I got all the keys and it went dark and from there I genuinely felt chilled.
I never felt fear like that in a game before and I only played it last year for the first time. I was scared to progress it felt like some kind of bad dream falling lower and lower into hell.

Overall I'm really surprised how well it holds up despite its age, infact I think the dated graphics add to the feel of the game as does the voice acting.

How are you supposed to do the school part on hard mode? I can't get past those kid things without them diving onto crotch. I kill the things and they don't even stay dead most the time

the atmosphere is legitimately horrifying, I think the only game that makes me more unsettled is SH3

SH is a masterpiece. It's the scariest and most interesting experience I've ever had. Period.
I used to play it with friends when I was around 10, and I remember we were always trying to figure out what the hell was going on in the story. Also remember going back home scared as shit, and having nightmares and fear of darkness.

The theme song still gives me goosebumps mixed with nostalgia.

Play SH2 without mods, if you were able SH1 with its outdated graphics you are gonna fucking love SH2's visuals.

Pay attention to the story. It's not really easy to understand it if you expect everything to be discovered in front of you. Information in this games is revealed in a sorta realistic way, where the protagonist only has some data, and he reaches conclusions in his own mind.

if they're blocking an exit use the gun and kill one or two of them then run past the rest. you can do that without getting hit.

do you kick them after they fall on the floor? they don't stay dead unless you give them a boot while they're down.

they respawn on hard mode sometimes.

i really need to get around to playing it and SH3. i only ever played SH2, i've tried to play all three but the mystery of James, the letter from Mary, Angela etc. all sucked me in and kept me through to the end whereas with the others i just kinda got bored or frustrated at some point of spamming open on dozens of locked doors and moved on to other games.

Probably the best sh. It has few pacing issues and lack of content + horrible fmv but the love to the detail is insane in many sceneries. Has very special vibes.

Should I emulate SH 1-3 or PC download?

The hallways are so narrow though and they take so many gunshots on hard mode. If Harry could jump over them I could do it easily. I go in classrooms and they are pretty much everywhere. I feel like I should of played this immdiately after I finished normal mode because the schools layout is not fresh in my head.

PC versions of SH2&3 are great. SH3 has 4k textures. the only possible downside SH2 had was the fog wasn't as good as the PS2 version but i believe a modder finally fixed that, not sure if SH3 had the same issue. but visually the PC versions cannot be matched and they aren't terribly taxing, emulation might be more of a headache.

I tried playing through the first SH awhile ago but the graphics were just too dated for me to get into it. I have played 2-4 and thoroughly enjoyed them.

SH1 can only be emulated
SH3 play it on PC version. A lot of the most interesting effects don't work in the emulated version. If you have access to a PS2 go with it.

Just give it a few moments and someone will post the chart.

DO NOT play the HD remastered version. It looks worse (really really bad). And newer voices are fucking terrible.

are you kidding me? the graphics of the sh1 add to surreal nature of it all and it definately has the strongest horror in the whole series.

git gud with tank controls I guess. I remember them being fairly easy for the most part. I wound stand on one side to get them to kinda move out of the way then run straight through the opening I creating.
every once and a while I would get hit and had to heal up, but it saved me a ton of bullets.

Any links for sh2 pc version?

4k textures? are there 1080p textures option? (dumb question probably) also can the games be 60fps?

>Just finished

What the fuck have you been doing for the last 17-18 years dude?

thanks I'll try that out. *pats on the back and gives greatful smile*

I agree that SH1 it has the best atmosphere of all the SH, but I also can understand someone not being able to enjoy the game fully because of its outdated graphics. I had the chance to play it when I was younger, so I can sit and have fun with the game with no problem. But I understand people who doesn't.

"wtf mouse"? That's fucking Jerry, you shit.

It still holds up. In fact, the dated graphics actually lend more to the scary factor desu.

Holy fuck you've finished every game from gen 5? I'm impressed.

How do I play the pc version of Silent Hill 2 and 3?

I have what you are looking right here.

>*pats on the back and gives greatful smile*
stop this.
I was being serious though. it make take a bit of practice but you can maneuver around them to avoid fighting the majority of them.

SH1 is excellent. I managed to man up and play it last year and don't regret it at all. The Labyrinth at the end made the game a 10/10 for me.

SH2 just barely beats it.

and 3?
and ....4?

SH1>SH2=SH3>>SH4

I like 3 but not as much as 1 or 2. Haven't played 4 because I saw some pretty mixed opinions and wasn't too sure whether or not to give it a try.

Silent Hill was a major title not some random game from the bargain bin.

100% agree

Meant to reply to this

sh2 came to me at a time in my life where everything in my life looked bleak; yes I had been hit grief and nobody, even myself seemed to know what to do nothing seemed to click anymore.

At first I thought the game terrible but I listened to the soundtrack a little and decided to give it a chance despite being lost for a little while. SH2 taught me about acceptance and moving on as well as having a main character I could relate to. James is my most favourite character in all of fiction and while some short sighted people think alot of his offness was unintentional, it all makes sense as you go further and further with one of the best pay offs I've ever experianced.

exactly

Not that many people on Sup Forums were prime age for PS1, mate. If you were say, 14-20 during the peak of PS1 (97), you'd be anything from 24 to 30 nowadays. And given that a disproportionate amount of people grew up with N64 and that Sup Forums is mostly browsed by college students and younger people, yeah, most people who have played it have played it in the after train and that probably means anything from the last 15 years to today. I mean, there's a lot of people who havent played the original MGS.

give 4 a try. I hated it for the most part, but I will admit it had a good premise and a few things that were good, I really enjoyed. it's just the overwhelming majority of everything else I hated how they executed it.

Please try 4 so you can finally say a true goodbye to the series. You owe it to yourself to try the last one, how can you ever be satisfied knowing that their was a final one by the dream team and you never played it despite playing 3 out of the 4? am I finally starting to get through to you? try sh4.

>Silent HIll 2 was also on Xbox

What was this version like?

He meant 4k texture resolution. But it's for certain textures around the environment only, most textures in the game are classic PS2 512x512 size.

not quite as well as the ps2 version as the fog effects wern't up to scratch. It had the born from the wish extra scenario first and a extra ending, which was added to the platnum release/director's cut of the ps2 version.

Better flashlight effects, amazing lighting effect for 2002, possibly one of the first games on consoles to feature that kind of lighting effect, Halo Combat Evolved being the very first one.

Worse fog and lower quality sounds.

it was pretty good, actually.

Doom 3 alpha demo got leaked in 2002 and was visually on par with the released version. SH2 and 3 lighting is still really good and mindblowing for console standards.

This is PS2 flashlight effect, the edges are blocky. Sadly the PC port of SH3 has the same lighting quality as the PS2 version, as a matter of fact the PC port is almost a 1:1 port of the PS2 version, even the DOF effects are locked in PS2 resolution, so if you try to play at a higher resolution than the PS2, the effects get all screwed up, luckily the Widescreen patch fixes this and allows high-res DOF effects which look better than the PS2 version.

please give me sh2 for pc.

I got blocked from the hospital section and I can't use the bloody tape anymore, got no idea where the fuck to go next..

Pretty great port.
Bought it at a gameshop for 2$

Doom 3 only came out on Xbox in 2005 though.

Halo CE already had it, although not as advanced as the one seen in Doom 3:
>As an Xbox game, Bungie was able to push Halo to new heights that greatly exceed the previously released footage from the game. It's one of the first game to focus on programmable shaders in a big way, for one thing. Detailed, bump mapped textures, per-pixel dynamic lighting, specular effects and other detailed effects were used throughout the game.

The guy who posts the download links should be here sooner or later.

I finished that too a week a go for the first time, now I'm looking for a CRT TV to plug my PS2 and play SH2 and SH3.

The intro theme gives me the chills, Lisa's theme too.

hey man I'm only 19, grew up mainly with a PS2 and have only just gotten into emulating old classic titles. I get what you mean though, it's been long overdue.

Lisa's theme was really fucking good, is that the one that plays after she bleeds to death from every pore in her body ?

10/10

Yes

Shame for some of the voice acting, Dahlia was dreadful to my ears, and Harry was more funny than serious.

>(Easy)
what a fag.

I'd recommended using the Retroarch
Mednafen core for SH1 instead of the standalone, as you can correct the textures to stop them from warping and also set whatever resolution you like.

>he still hasn't beaten SH3 on Extreme X mode without bullet multipliers or extra weapons

I can't get retroarch or mednafen to boot a single PSX game.
