Octopath Traveler

The HD-2D art style is great on a technical level but I can't fucking stand the lighting. There's a ton of bloom and overexposure in the center of the screen but the corners are all blurry and covered in shadow so a lot of environments with nice texture work and up looking not as good as they should. It's like I'm watching the game through the Valencia filter or something it's a little disorienting
made a quick demonstration of what I'm talking abt a using final fantasy screen cap

You are a homosexual

Pretty much this, it legitimately looks like ass.
It also has the godawful BROWN N BLOOM filter.
Fuck modern gaming generations and all the retards that don't like visual clarity.

...

I agree, actually. Can't stand 2D games with bloom, they're all trash.

Color grading, Vignette, Bloom (all 3 are used in Octopath) as well as Depth of Field and Chromatic Aberration are cancer killing videogames.
DoF is absolutely the only one that isn't shit when implemented well (only in cutscenes and not too aggressively) but 99% of times it's not so it's shit too.

These look basically the same to me. I would never notice if you switched it on me when I went to the washroom or something.

>WUAA STOP SAYING SOMETHING NEGATIVE ABOUT A NINTENDO GAME THAT WONT SELL BECAUSE ITS NOT MARIO

nu/v/ at its finest
I wish WW3 happened so all you Gen Z shitters would get drafted and killed.

I'm older than you and FF1 was my first rpg. I just don't pay attention to graphical details you fucking cunt.

Sure you are sweetie.

Haven't had a chance to play yet, but it looks interesting.
How's the demo play?

28. You?

Soon-to-be-a-wizard-next-month

Ok you win. I'm still not gen-z. I just don't notice details. When I was a kid my mom repainted my room to a different colour and I didn't notice for a week.

Shut up, fag.

>When I was a kid my mom repainted my room to a different colour and I didn't notice for a week.
What the fuck is wrong with you? No, seriously, what the fuck man.

Dunno, she was pissed. I guess I just tune out anything that I'm not focused on.

Sounds like you might have some attention disorder.

OP here. Occasional visual issues aside, the game itself is really fun. I don't quite understand the Boost system yet because there doesn't seem to be any reason NOT to use it but the battles work well nonetheless. I am really digging the concept of being able to use any of these 8 characters in the same world but having plot events vary dramatically depending on who you pick. The music and voice acting is quite nice too, even if some of the VA is a bit cheesy at times. Honestly I'd recommend choosing Primrose and playing the game for a bit, I think you'll find it's pretty fun and has some potential

>I don't quite understand the Boost system yet because there doesn't seem to be any reason NOT to use it
Have you fought the head bandit? He has 6 shields, and what deals the most damage is the spear ability charged to the maximum. Also he occasionally waits a turn and then unleashes a pretty strong attack.
Basically you're better off using regular spear attacks and save your points for when you either have to block or when his shields are down. Unless you're at maximum of course.

Is this Olberic story? I have only played a little over an hour of Primrose. The toughest battle was the one against the shitty master guy but even then I got by with good strategy and 3 healing grapes.
Anyway what I meant is every single round you get more Boost for each character. There is no downside to using Boost every turn because you're always guaranteed to have it again in the next turn. If you had, say, one Boost meter for the whole party you might need to manage who uses Boost attacks when and it would make the system a bit more compelling I think. But idk, maybe the deeper you get in the story the more the system makes sense.

I don't think so. With something like the op I'd have most of my focus on the next dungeon I had to go to, or prepping for the marsh cave or whatever, not on the graphics on the roofs on the shops. That gets filed under not important.

I agree, too much brown and bloom. Would look so much nicer with vibrant colors.
Also the menu text is fucking microscopic, especially the item descriptions.

There's a point early on in the game where you go into a cave and the bloom is so fucking heavy on your character that the sprite is practically white. Trust me when I say it gets distracting when you play sometimes. It's not the end of the world or anything but you will notice it in parts

>Is this Olberic story?
Yes.
As I said, against regular enemies you might as well always boost, but against stronger enemies it depends on how many shields they have and what kind of composition the enemy party has.
Ideally you'd want to break down their shields as inexpensively as possible, and then take advantage of the one free turn when they have their guard down to deal the most damage. Boosting all the time in this case becomes counterproductive.

Aaahhh ok now I gotcha. Makes sense, I'll try it out tonight with Olberic.

Well, I'm guessing Primrose has a boss in her side of the story too, so you can just go forward with her. In general you'll want to be a bit more strategic with your boosting against any enemy that has 3 or more shields.
