hell, the esper system in FF6 is similar, but only broken in that Vanish + doom or x-zone is a bug.

All he's saying is that the stat changes on materia should feel bigger and I agree. They clearly wanted it to influence your stats but they didn't go far enough. The physical materia should make you more of a front liner and the green and red materia should nuke your physical stats harder.
