While I was taking the trash out earlier, I found a copy of Xenoblade Chronicles X just kinda in the dumpster. I could reach it, so I grabbed it and it works. Haven't played it yet but it loads up.
So, Sup Forums, is XCX so bad it is literally garbage? Should I give it a go?
Jackson Miller
combat is kinda bland but very satisfying, the first 10 or so hours kinda suck, but around halfway through it gets real fun
Owen Rivera
It gave me 150 hours of enjoyment.
William Scott
>bland >but satisfying
Care to explain? Do you mean, like, it's fun but not inventive?
Jeremiah Hill
its a good game but if you want a well rounded complete story dont play it. the story that is there is good but it doesnt end completely and leaves more questions unanswered in the end. i have no idea if we will ever get a sequel too.
Matthew Allen
post elma
David Peterson
The visuals in the game are amazing.
Jacob Johnson
It has the best environmental design of any game ever made imo. exploring Mira on foot was one of my favorite video game experiences ever.
Christopher Morales
Hours 0-20: incredible exploration, great sidequests, it's perfect Hours 20-40: having a great time exploring more regions, setting up beacons, progressing the story Hours 40-60: skells taking all the tension out of exploring, enemies either die in one hit or kill you in one hit, music has looped so many times that your ears are bleeding Hours 60-80: dude tatsu is a potato LMAO, muh mimeosomes, retarded melodrama, story goes to shit REALLY hard with all the aliens and the origin of humans, and the traitor having really lousy motivations, OVER THE RAINBOWWWW
tl;dr play until you reach Sylvallum aka one of the prettiest environments in gaming history, explore it until you're bored and then sell this hot garbage
Aiden Rodriguez
It's really shit but there're only 2 jrpg on wiiu, beggar can't be chooser.
Adrian Anderson
It just means its one of those RPGs that really picks up some hours into it
Liam Davis
UH YEAH UH YEAH UH YEAH
Hunter Smith
>somebody threw it out instead of just trading it in for cash Either it was thrown out by someone's parents or girlfriend or someone threw it out and snapped a picture of it to post on some online community to make a statement or for teh lulz
Dominic Miller
The game is a mixed bag really, some people like it, some don't. If I were to compare it to an Elder Scrolls game difficulty-wise, I'd compare it to the likes of Morrowind with how much you'd need to understand how augmenting your equipment to deal the most damage to enemies and keeping your self alive works as well as lots of searching and grinding you'd have to do without some kind of map marker to aid you, so if you preferred Oblivion or Skyrim over it, this game is probably not for you.
Leo Ross
Kind of debatable on if it's a good game or not to be honest, but I know I enjoyed it at least. Most notable thing is the great open world, fun to explore and has zero invisible walls. Takes a while to really get into it, I think, but give it a try anyway.
Ian Ramirez
>Combat >Bad This is why we're getting combat ruined for 2
Brayden Lopez
I dropped it after 40 or so hours but I still recommend it.
Robert Cox
There's no real conherent linear story to it, but it really does a good job immersing you into the setting and atmosphere of the planet you're on. The more I played it, the more I loved it, until it became my personal GOTY of 2015. Soundtrack's not everyone's cuppa tea, but many have stockholm syndromed so who knows.
Nolan Bell
Robot Elma or Alien Elma?
Angel Perry
All kinds are welcome, post it all my folder was deleted
Parker Young
It means it's got potential but doesn't need you to execute it as much as you think. Think Pokemon battle system, theoretically, the sheer number of alternatives and strategies should make the main game pretty fukken hard, but the devs made it for kids so the main game barely ever explores it. S/M did a bit though, and I'm thankful for that
Caleb Stewart
>There's no real conherent linear story to it, That's a complete and total lie. The story was actually pretty easy to follow. The only flaw is in the pacing, since it obviously set up for a sequel, like Xenosaga, rather than tie up all the loose ends.
Ryder Williams
...
Jaxson Perry
Poor wording sorry. I agree with you, it's just that the main story is so fragmented and barebones. I got more fun and "story" out of just "living" in the world of Mira, doing the affinity quests and sidequests. They really sell the vibe of settling onto an alien world. And cooperating & getting along with the alien species you eventually come to share NLA with
Logan Martinez
I'm just really not a fan of everyone shitting on the story like it was the worst thing ever. It had pacing issues, but when Xenoblade Chronicles X 2 releases, I feel that people will appreciate X more.
If X 2 is good, that is.
Joseph Howard
...
Parker Diaz
OP here. About halfway through Chapter One (3/5). Pretty fun. Unique, but I can see how it might get old or seem kind of bland. Seems like a neat world more than anything. Reminds me of Pandora from Avatar. But unlike Avatar, I see some interesting characters and unique fauna. Should be cool. Can't believe it was just in the fuckin trash. The only problem with it is during cutscenes, some graphics don't load until after the scene begins. Also, somethings don't load until you're RIGHT up on them. Might just be the game and not the disc, though.
What the fuck is this soundtrack though?
Daniel Allen
I guess people are just a little bitter. Cause there are some extremely good concepts and ideas in play but never really played upon in the main story. Honestly though, I think a lengthy main story would've been uniftting for a game like XBX. I much prefer how it turned out, it gives you the chance to explore the world and help out the people of NLA as you see fit.
Michael Powell
And art design And story And characters And writing And anything that could make it a quality game
Fuck nuXenofags were a mistake.
Jonathan Anderson
It gets a lot more complex in the coming chapters. Chapter 1 is incredibly bare bones. There are about 120 different arts in the game and you have access to 6 right now.
Oliver Hall
>What the fuck is this soundtrack though?
Your first Hiroyuki Sawano soundtrack I presume? You'll either grow to love it, or just hate it all the way. Just note that there are some data packs you can download for the game that REALLY HELP speed up the load times and minimize the pop in and whatnot. Make sure you have enough space for those.
Brayden White
Blame smash for introducing casuals to the series.
Jeremiah Clark
>What the fuck is this soundtrack though?
Yeah word of caution; Do NOT get too hung up on listening closely for lyrics. The composer likes throwing in vocals into his stuff for flavour purpose. Treat them more like another instrument than actual singing if anything.
Jace Collins
Guys, can we hang out some time? I'm sick of not going out anywhere.
Brody Roberts
All Xenofags were mistakes. XB2's gonna be just fine. You'd think all of you "old" Xenofags would be used to Takahashi switching gears all the time by now.
Alexander Thomas
Excellent. I like NLA - how it looks and functions, as a city. Out of curiosity - in different global releases, is NLA called such and have a giant "UNITED STATES" on the side of the habitat? Just wondering if they alter it between releases. Was jarring for a second to see robot anime teens exploring an alien planet just to find out they're technically American, hah.
I suppose it is. I looked him up and haven't seen any of the stuff he's worked on (even Attack on Titan). And thanks - I'll check out the data packs.
I'll keep that in mind. So far it's been a lot of YEAHs and UH UH UHs and even the main battle theme, if you take too long, turns into "something something whole 'nutha planet."
Jordan Hall
I put 300 hours into it, so yeah, I'd say it's pretty good.
Jason Peterson
>Out of curiosity - in different global releases, is NLA called such and have a giant "UNITED STATES" on the side of the habitat?
Yep, even in the Nip version it's Los Angeles.
Eli Myers
How it runs on CEMU? Still running like crap?
Matthew Hill
It runs like crap on the system it was developed for, I doubt that CEMU can do much better.
Xavier Watson
>in different global releases, is NLA called such and have a giant "UNITED STATES" on the side of the habitat?
Yes. In universe if I remember correctly, we just happened to be on the habitat ship that was based on Murica and launched from Murica I suppose. The White Whale wasn't the only habitat ship after all, just that it was (maybe) the only one that survived, so it's probably reasonable to assume there were other model cities as well.
Xavier Rodriguez
>It runs like crap on the system it was developed for
It runs consistently well on Wii-U though? Especially with the data packs in place, and Monolith's programming wizardry.
Gabriel Jackson
If this game didn't have soul voices meaning you have to adhere to the "press B" prompt every couple minutes it would be a great game. I'm never going to shut up about this.
Ayden Gomez
Even better is that NLA grows and expands not only as the story progresses, but as you finish sidequests. Characters move in, die off, change places, offer rewards, open new buildings, etc.
NLA is one of the best cities in all of video gaming history. The only shame is that it only has 3 songs that can play, and a given playthrough will have you sitting in it for 20+ hours.
Colton Collins
Whats the best skell to aim for?
Luis White
Ares 90 will turn you into an unstoppable god of death.
Mason Barnes
Lailah has the best overdrive, but heavies are the best, stat-wise.
Jaxon Scott
Ares90 until you have enough materials to make broken augments on level 60 skells.
Eli Butler
>Combat is bland
Jesus christ, kill yourself. It's some of the best jrpg gameplay in ages. It's basically DA:O/FF12 gameplay cranked up to the max. It's fun as fuck
Wyatt Wright
If you want to be OP, Mastema If you want to just collect stuff quick, Ares 90 If you don't want to get hit by anything, Formula If you want to blend in with all the Blade NPCs, Urban If you want to be a slut, Verus
Brody King
>Jesus christ, kill yourself. It's some of the best jrpg gameplay in ages. It's decent but the menu is a clusterfuck in battle and having to smash B all the time gets tiring and breaks the pace of battle.
Hunter Barnes
You don't even have to use soul voices all the time and the battle UI is fine outside of huge damage numbers occasionally
Christopher Johnson
>Runs out of fuel.
Jayden Stewart
>You don't even have to use soul voices all the time and the battle UI is fine outside of huge damage numbers occasionally Doesn't stop them from appearing and no the UI is not fine. It's a cluttered fucking mess.
Gavin Bailey
>Keeping you on your toes is breaking the pace
To each their own. Also:
>"menu is a clusterfuck in battle" >XB2 rectifies this by spreading the arts among 3 weapons, with 3 arts & 1 special for each mapped to the face buttons >combat is somehow "ruined"
Connor Campbell
I tried playing this game, got about 10 hours in, and dropped it. I don't know what the fuck people are talking about when they say it's so great. It's got big ideas but I just couldn't get into it. Maybe I'll give it another go someday, but it just wasn't for me.
Andrew Wright
Combat is literally broken in X because of overdrive. They seem to be fixing the combat in XBC2. Xfags were a mistake.
Brandon Nelson
>So, Sup Forums, is XCX so bad it is literally garbage? As someone who's beaten it, unironically yes.
Gavin Wilson
All that info is important regardless of the cluttered-ness of it all. None of that is really removeable short of removing all the descriptive text and shortening the debuff modifier names & descriptions.
Parker Ortiz
>All that info is important regardless of the cluttered-ness of it all. That's why it's bad. I still poured over 200 hours into the game and beat most things but I fucking hate the UI so much and soul voices just make me dread going into a fight at all, especially against strong bosses that will make soul voices appear every 5 seconds.
Aiden Cook
Some of those side quest were real good.
David Martinez
Overdrive isn't "completely broken", potential is. But still, it requires a lot of min/maxing to get optimal potential or perma-overdrive
Connor Richardson
>Elma and Lao gain affinity when you let the Ma-non die
Adam Gutierrez
Unless you're going for a Photon Saber build, in which case Essence Exchange can easily let you do inf overdrive, though you better at least equip one Arts TP Gain Augment in case you accidentally kill yourself.
Ryan Martinez
how does that work?
Andrew Flores
I would say, be prepared for a grind. It can get boring sometimes, but it's still an enjoyable game. I'm just too indecisive to make a decision on what i want my character to do
Jose Carter
+environments and exploration are top notch (slightly less with skell with a flight module) +gear / weapon / skell customization and variety in fighting skills is superb +lots of characters and side quests and they actually add a lot to world building and carry the game better then the main story line -somewhat weaker main story and occasionally annoying 'required' characters -lots of grind needed especially if you want to go for post game big monster hunts (if the online part is still alive might not be such a big issue) -technical issues since Monolith had to cut some corners to make XCX work on Wii U, awful popup (gets better with downloaded data packs but still annoying), missing collision detection with most stuff that isn't terrain cliffhanger ending with continuation being pretty unlikely Great game, though it has it's faults. If you get hooked you can easily spend few hundred hours in.
Juan Bennett
>No character development whatsoever >Linlee and "I'm literally made of cardboard" Elma are forced into your party for every single story mission. >No collective group like in XC1 so party members can have dynamics, conversations, drama and development >The entire plot is dumped in the last two chapters. The game was fucking awful in terms of story and characters but exploration was great, flying around and fighting in a skell was fun except for the repetitive annoying qte and combat wasn't too different from XC (but I didn't like how superbosses required you to be broken as all fuck or die instantly).
Joseph Watson
Weakest part is the story and characters. Everything else is 11/10, goddamn exploration is so great as long as you dont use the flight pack unless necessary
Dylan Flores
Attribute Res Probes are criminally underutilized. Do players hate having free +15 resistance to everything?
Brayden Diaz
It's got a lot of depth but you don't really need any of it for the main story, so most people just walk through the game without actually exploring it. It's a similar deal to what Paper Mario has going on, but the base mechanics are less flashy and interesting than Paper Mario. That at least has inputs to keep it interesting. You need to know your shit to fight superbosses though.
John Turner
>dude tatsu is a potato LMAO, muh mimeosomes, retarded melodrama, story goes to shit REALLY hard with all the aliens and the origin of humans, and the traitor having really lousy motivations
I wouldn't mind this shit if it wasn't all sequel bait
Liam Butler
>lying on the internet
Benjamin King
Typical xeno game shit then.
Lucas Taylor
Story's crap. Everything else is fine. Post game is mostly grinding and finishing up whatever you didn't bother to before the "end" of the story.
Dominic Reyes
Ares90 if you want to farm for anything else.
It kills almost everything in the game easily.
Josiah Martin
Do I need to charge my phone and take a picture, bitch?
Brayden Brown
Not sure if you're being honest here, but I actually did find a copy of Final Fantasy Online with the expansion unopened in the trash. Not sure what the deal was, there. I don't own a PS4 so I just gave it to the neighbor kid
Andrew Smith
Yep - totally honest. I should mention that the case had no slip cover box art in it, but I recognized it as a Wii U game because of the blue plastic. I was taking out the trash, and saw it there with a bunch of college papers and dime store novels, and I opened it up, and viola.
Bentley Sanders
Is cemu still a botw emulator? Have they improved xcx?
Carter Walker
see and then
Aiden Brooks
I fucking love the world building and sidequests this game has.
Angel Wright
Play it if only to explore the world. Some of the best exploration since Morrowind.
Charles Anderson
>runs like crap on the system it was developed for I have 300 hours on the game and can cite exactly 0 moments where the framerate dropped.
Joseph Carter
>and can cite exactly 0 moments where the framerate dropped. Selective memory or bad eyesight isn't an excuse mate. Go equip some disk bombs on your skell and weep. If you want more go through archives, it's a bother to write the same shit out every time someone half blind posts his anecdotal evidence.
Luke Peterson
Bullshit. The framerate in this game is awful and it would probably take less time to name all the moments the game's framerate wasn't dropped.
Levi Roberts
I've always been curious about XCX, but to be honest the game just looks really off putting from an artstyle and visual perspective. And then there's being forced to support NoA faggotry because to my knowledge there isn't an undub.
I have the Xenoblade Chronicles waiting for me to get bothered enough to start playing too, so I might get around to pirating XCX eventually.
Noah Walker
The concepts for the world design are amazing, but they didn't really execute all that well; it could have been so much more.
Kevin Hernandez
you say this while XC2 exists
Blake Peterson
XBCX is one of the few recent games that give me genuine happiness whenever I think about it. It's not for everyone but if you have access to it, try it.
Julian Stewart
It's fun, my biggest gripe comes from late game shit. Micromanaging augments and grinding for materials you need gets old really fast.
