Why do people keep saying that >at least we got some closure
we got shit, we jumped from one cliffhanger to another. We dont know what happened to gordon and alyx. Why Laidlaw didn't post entire story? i dont get it. He must know it all. People blame gaben for not finishing the story and praise Laidlaw when he did exactly the same.
Half-Life is meant to be a series of cliffhangers to keep you interested. Half-Life 1 was a cliffhanger. Also, the script is developed as the gameplay is developed. They make this shit up as they go along.
Anthony Ross
there is a difference between endings like in first half life and for example between ep2. First one is open ending, main story is finished. Second one is just typical cliffhanger that demand some closure.
Laidlaw must have some plans for HL3 so he could at least write something about it
Brody Hughes
Half-Life 2's main story is done with Episode 3. Half-Life 3 would have been radically different from HL2, like how HL2 was radically different from HL1. You'd know this if you followed interviews from Laidlaw.
Gabriel Gutierrez
source on that?

arcadeattack.co.uk/marc-laidlaw/ >Interviewer: Do you have any idea whether Half-Life 3 will ever be released and would you be willing to work on this title? >Marc Laidkaw: No idea. And I have no interest in going back. I had ideas for Episode 3. They were all supposed to take the series to a point where I could step away from it and leave it to the next generation. I had hoped for a reset between HL2 and HL3 that was as dramatic as the shift between HL1 and HL2. I honestly don’t know if anyone else shared this goal, but it seemed important to me to give ultimate freedom to whoever inherited the series, with my own personal set of loose ends tied up to my satisfaction. Unfortunately, I was not able to do that. But I never thought as far ahead as HL3, unless you were to say that HL3 and Episode 3 were the same thing. I will say that I expected every installment would end without resolution, forever and ever…there was some rumor going around that Ep3 or HL3 would end Gordon Freeman’s story, and I don’t think that was accurate. My intention was that Ep3 would simply tie up the plot threads that were particular to HL2. But it would still end like HL1 and HL2, with Gordon in an indeterminate space, on hold, waiting for the next game to begin. So one cliffhanger after another.
Nathan Rogers
Episode 3 was never meant to mark the conclusion of half life you retard, just the end of the half life 2 saga. Episode 3 and half life 3 are two different entities, laidlaw wrote the story for EPISODE 3
John Hernandez
Are they really two different entities if none of them exist?
Jaxson Campbell
because that shit wasn't done anyway. the story is changed as it goes on if it suits the gameplay or if he or if he any other writer suddenly comes up with something they think they can change to make it better
Matthew Wilson
>Dyson sphere threads lasted for a week and a half Those were the days.
Adam Ross
After reading his tweets and interviews; I guess he just wanted to make Episode 3, end some mysteries and leave it at that, continue on with something else to the series. Rest of the Valve however, probably wanted to make a new complete game with innovations and revolutionary mechanics, just like first and the second. Reading Epistle 3 it is almost as if there are still things that he doesn't want to say. Yeah you get to know where Aperture Science was, where borealis is, kind of what happens but there are like still many big things left completely untouched. It might even be him just giving Valve some idea of how fans would react to things and what would they like/dislike.

>I never played A HL game before Ep 2 Okay.
Chase Gonzalez
Who cares the series is bland af.
Jason Roberts
>we got shit, we jumped from one cliffhanger to another. Did you even play HL1 in the first place?
Jayden Hughes
I don't really give a fuck about the story. First was mediocre, second was semifun on a good computer. Shovelware shit FPS ensued. Then suddenly 2001 swept in with Halo CE and made this game a faint memory that I barely shrug at. Meh. System Shock 2 had way better wrench whacking than crowbar whacking ever was
Michael Scott
>dont recognize difference between open ending and cliffhanger
Jaxson Kelly
I love both Halo CE and System Shock 2 and I have to say you are wrong. Half Life is a true classic. Half Life 2, while it doesnt hold up as well, was still amazing for its day. Both have phenomenal mods.
James Bennett
At the end of HL1, an otherworldly force takes Gordon away At the end of HL2 Episode 3, an otherworldly force takes Gordon away

you get next part after Half life 1 you will never get next part after Half life 2 ep3
Jace Reed
Who cares about what happened to Gordon he's just a guy in a suit
Jordan Harris
>you will never get next part after Half life 2 ep3 Not saying that HL3 will ever happen because chances are it never will, but unless Valve themselves confirms that HL3 is canceled then we will never know for sure.
Are you retarded? The ending was written so that they can make sequel with as much freedom as they want.
Ayden Cooper
>buy half life 2 >end up playing multiplayer mods more than the actual game don't know, but it just doesn't seem to get me engaged, I loved Half-Life 1
Dominic Russell
Should I play Half Life 1 and 2 to understand the whole the story? Or do I need to read external material to 'get it'? I don't mind lack of closure.
Buddha and Allah are different non-existent entities. Batman and Superman are different non-existent entities. Your future girlfriend and your productive, satisfying life are different non-existent entities.

Start with Left 4 Dead 2, then Counter Strike Condition Zero Deleted Scenes, Bioshock and finally play Half-Life 2 Lost Coast.

I knew this was coming the day they releced the HL''''2'''' music pack on CS:GO. Clearly it was in production but the small clique of devs at VALVE HQ said fuck it... or maybe they jumped onto another project... makes me think somthing new is in the works.
Sure all the dosh in the worlds funneling into the bizz through microtransactions, but their a dev studio at heart and there not putting up ads for programmers and designers on their site for nothing. VR was a promicing prospect and with Gabes push into physical systems, Steam Box, VR controllers, all this shit, I'd put my bottom dollary-do on something massive, ground breaking even, coming our way.
Jacob Harris
There are only about two comics in the canon, right now. Neither of them are exactly important. DESU, Half-Life 2 is terrible, absolutely terrible, at keeping continuity with the first game and it's expansions.
Jackson Diaz
>Spent 3 games fighting against the Combine just to be told that our actions meant shit to them What a copout
Kayden Thompson
>but their a dev studio at heart and there not putting up ads for programmers and designers on their site for nothing. Goodness, how can you fuck up this bad? Are you autistic?
Wyatt Thomas
Was opposing forces canon? I legit can't remember what even happens in that expansion.
I respect your well voiced opinion, and it reminds me why I still visit this shitty, cancerous & underaged board

pssh... nothin' personnel, freeman

Is this an act of aggression or an act of sex?

this is what happens when you try to give tech demos a story based on shooting things why people rant and rave about HL's story is fucking beyond me, and I adore the first game and opposing force also gunman chronicles
