I have the Special Edition pre ordered and I can't wait. I've never played X, so I wouldn't know. The direction that game took kinda put me off so I never bought it.

2 has references to X so even if you don't need to play it plotwise, you'll get a little more out of 2 if you do. Also it's an amazing game.

I've heard complaints about X. Some people who love first game seem to not like it. Any reason why?

X is a wildly different type of game with the same battle system but with a bunch of new stuff thrown on top of it to make it more engaging.
X is entirely open world, the main character is entirely silent and more a supporting cast to the main story more than anything. Also at the end of the game you get major sequel bait and unanswered questions where XBC1 was a complete 1 and done story. Also, X was seriously constant sci-fi stuff where XBC1 was high-fantasy with a handful of sci-fi elements towards the end.

There's CEMU but its not exactly stable. They got it sort of working for Breath of the Wild but I think the build that does that can't run other games well at all so be careful about which build you get if you want to try it out.

Tora in 2 is a reference to Tora from X. There also looks to be a Nopon who could be Tatsu.

How do you guys feel about the gacha system for obtaining blades? I'm a bit leery of it and I'm worried it's an easy way to introduce microtransactions into the game. If you can at least savescum for different results that might be a different story

That being said I do actually like Gacha in single player games as long as it's not tied to Microtransactions. Games like Minish Cap and Senran Kagura do this pretty well.
