Doom is to the Switch is what Quake was to the Saturn.

Those still images are really telling a tale of how it will run.

>people comparing in game screens with a fucking youtube video

when are people going to stop this shit

A pretty good port with better lighting?

>purposely posting a downscaled version to hide the flaws

youtube.com/watch?v=yL50BKFQYRE

I'll wait for the Digital foundry video thank you very much.

The biggest problem is that Switch is 30 fps where the other versions are 60 fps (or higher on PC)

So it's running at half the framerate in addition to graphics downgrades, which admittedly aren't a big deal in and of themselves

It's underpowered, no way around it. That being said third parties shouldn't be lazy cunts and skip it entirely because it can't run their pajeet coded unoptimized pieces of shit.

>The biggest problem is that Switch is 30 fps
When docked, i bet

You realize docked is the more powerful mode, right?

Original games that utilize switch is what I'm looking for, not watered versions of pre existing games

Mouse and Keyboard will always be better for FPS games but gamepad isn't exactly bad, at least if you're not playing it on PC with a gamepad. Then you'll just get obliterated.

What fucking flaws? Its just slightly darker? The fuck? Fuck off.

Yes, hence my comment. Docked will be 30fps, undocked will be less in many areas, unless they implement dynamic resolution changes.

>play it undocked for 5 seconds before it shuts off and starts beeping nonstop
>plug it back in and tear the screen in half on the shitty plastic dock
>plug it into tv only to have purple lines and static play because it was designed by a fetal alcohol syndrome incest baby

>but gamepad isn't exactly bad
Gamepad is awful without aim assist. It's simply not meant for this kind of genre.

>implement dynamic resolution changes
Probably. At the very least, it'll be lower resolution in handheld mode so it can keep up the same framerate. Not difficult considering the only thing between docked and handheld that changes is the GPU clock speed

DOOM on switch is like Doom on SNES

It is underpowered but the portability aspect makes up for it

Because an FPS is the type of game I'm just dying to play on the train

I'm not even a switchlet but good god it's clear you don't even own the system

Maybe not but you have the option to do so and that's something that other consoles can't offer. Modern consoles really crippled themselves when they decided to act as watered-down PCs instead. You shouldn't be playing an FPS on console regardless

>Maybe not but you have the option to do so and that's something that other consoles can't offer.
Ah.

>Undocked will have worse framerate
I dont even like the Switch but you don't understand how the hardware works at all.

Switch gets performance problems in tv mode but not handheld mode sometimes because the resolution it displays on for TV's is larger than in handheld mode. The devs of a game would have to be LITERALLY retarded to make a game have more framerate issues in handheld mode.

It's tolerable with gyro aiming which the switch version might get

Just because it was that way with BotW doesn't mean it's inherently true. It just so happened that 720p with downgrades was pushing the console less than 900p without any. It could be completely opposite. It all has to do with how well they optimize each mode.

Whats with the PS2 era foggy haze on the Switch? Looks like Battlefront II when things are far away.

Also assuming 9 frames per second.

And god damn this: Look Nintendo could dominate like the old days if it had put out a console with meat to it. Who wouldn't take their generic popular slop along side some Zelda, but they didn't and its not going to happen. They are busy trying to be Apple and pretend like they invented things, in this case the tablet or for that matter decent powered portable games.

They should just make sure to get out one of each major Nintendo IP, including the neglected ones and they'll be fine. Bonus points if they get some old companies (the ones that really made them such a force in the day) to make some simple fun games for them again.

>Switch can't handle bloom and DoF that will
>"LOL SWITCH SUCKS DICK, SO BAD!!"

Bloom and DoF are shit anyway, I always turn them down/off if possible. A lot of games use too much bloom anyway.

>It just so happened that 720p with downgrades was pushing the console less than 900p without any

Didn't I hear that games could run better in handheld because it drops to 720p and could then have more power for frames? And BotW ran better in handheld?

doom 1 & 2 with .wad compatibility

>8 screens
>724x768
>each screen 362x192
>LOOK AT THAT SWITCH GRAPHICS WOWWWW
Ninendokids.

I'm not giving it merit merely because it's unique, I'm giving it merit because it's providing a difference over PC. Consoles used to have their own traits over PCs(such as couch co-op) but ever since consoles starting trying to imitate PC towards the end of 7th gen, they've lost their purpose. There is absolutely zero reason to own a modern console beyond companies trying their hardest to hold exclusives hostage to their system. Switch at least has portability going for it, what do modern consoles provide besides being inferior PCs?

Nothing has been dispelled, Nintenkiddo

>posting downscaled screenshots to hide all the flaws on the Switch end
I've also seen you fags swap the images around to put the PS4 on the Switch side, how pathetic can you be?

>I'm giving it merit because it's providing a difference over PC

Did you know that handheld PCs exist?

Yes but a lot of games get made exclusive for handhelds, significantly more than other consoles.

I can play a tiny fraction of my 3DS and Vita library on PC.

the only meme here is you

>unless they implement dynamic resolution changes.
The PS4 and Xbox One versions already use dynamic resolution, didn't keep either one of those versions at a locked 60fps. PS4 version didn't drop below 1080p very often, Xbox One version fluctuated a lot more in the 720p-900p range usually.

>The devs of a game would have to be LITERALLY retarded to make a game have more framerate issues in handheld mode.
All they have to do is target a higher resolution in the docked mode than the clock speed / memory speed increase will account for in docked mode. It's why BOTW runs worse docked, they increased the resolution from 720p dynamic to 900p dynamic but docked mode only increases memory bandwidth from like 22GB/s to 25GB/s.

People enjoyed Halo just fine

So this is...

damn you're right i don't think i could play nigger simulator 18 with faces like that even though you barely see the face

My post was literally just correcting an user who was saying what you thought I said.

Power of Switch?

NONOOOONOON HEEEEEHAHAHAHA

>Switch trailer adds blur to hide the massive downgrades
You just can't make this shit up
fucking PHONES have better graphics than this
What a fucking joke

At least it isn't fucking chibi models.

That is underpowered?.....are you blind? yea it can run it but at like half capacity

*squints eyes*

Hardly a difference to be seen, especially in motion

The system is also far less powerful in handheld mode because it underclocks the GPU. You can lower the resolution to compensate for that change, but it doesn't mean that handheld performance is better. It just happened to be that's the case for BotW

Stop comparing a handheld console to a fucking console. It's obviously gonna be worse retard

How do you know what I think you said? Not even sure which post you are since I replied to 2 of them. Anyway I wasn't necessarily correcting you but just elaborating in general the issue with the Switch docked mode. Too small of a bump for the kinds of resolutions developers want to target. Docked should have increased memory bandwidth by 50%.

As to dynamic resolution, I've got DOOM on PS4 and PC, visually it looks fine on PS4 but performance is not that good for a supposedly 60fps game. It dips frequently and stutters at checkpoints or when entering new areas.

nobody bought a Switch for graphics though

>Yes but a lot of games get made exclusive for handhelds, significantly more than other consoles.
>I can play a tiny fraction of my 3DS and Vita library on PC.
The PC library dwarfs that of every other library ever made combined, and most of it is playable on an average laptop.

They didnt buy it for bathesda ports either

>especially in motion
It's an even bigger difference in motion because the Switch is 30 fps while the PS4 is 60 fps

Yeah but I can't hold a latop in my hands and play it I need a lap or a desk. Possibly a mouse and a controller too. There's not a lot of keyboard only games, user, and I'm not playing vidya with a trackpad

Its 60fps on switch you doofus

Is that why the trailer was 30 fps despite the fact that the stream was broadcast at 60 fps?

Is DOOM going to use the gyro aiming of the switch? That might make me consider getting it.

Pretty good considering the power draw of the Switch.

All of the games were 30 for some reason. Even games that are confirmed 60fps.

HAHAHA LOOK AT THAT FOV

>All of the games were 30 for some reason
Nope. Try again. Plenty of games were 60 fps in the stream

>30 fps Doom
Holy shit only Switch players are desperate enough to accept this

Original doom was 24fps retard

Children wont know the difference

That's literally not true though.

>Its 60fps on switch
Proof?
Trailer is 30fps.

You're lying or ignorant, so which is it

youtube.com/watch?v=ztMGTTAjsAQ
Make sure you have 720p60 or 1080p mode selected
Now go to the Doom trailer and press . which advances one frame. You have to hit it twice to advance a frame because each frame is duplicated (30 fps). Now go to the Odyssey footage. Each press of . is a new frame (60fps)

>724x768
Try harder, you retarded Nintenigger.

I enjoyed a lot of Halo and 007. Until I found out I had been missing out on Quake and Unreal.

Timesplitters is still one of my favorites, but once you have the mouse it spoils you. Time and a place for each type of controller. And the typical dual analogue is just not for RTS/FPS.

Videos from direct.

>silky smooth 30 fps

It literally is underpowered. It's the equivalent of a old GTX 400 series.

This is from a 1080p stream. I think people are expecting *way* too much from what is ultimately a tablet.

None of you retards are accounting for CPU bottlenecking vs GPU bottlenecking re: resolution and handheld/docked framerates.

yeah, actually you're right. the way they got that screenshot is by taking a screenshot of normal gameplay, and then cropping out nothing but the face.

you dumb inbred brainlet brand-loyalist faggot. those close ups are supposed to be the pinnacle of the games graphics, and it looks like shitty smudgy clay on the Switch. You paid hundreds of dollars for a shitty mobile phone branded as a games console, get over it.

>Stop comparing a handheld console to a fucking console.

You mean like how OP literally did for this thread? (except with shit resolution for the pictures to make them look similar)

It's not going to be a higher framerate in handheld than it is in docked, that's just stupid.

Pretty fair statement. But why make it a tablet, or why try to push it as a console, or why not play to its strengths?

This also means the WiiU was the last real console.

I would rather it not push graphics and do it badly, that image is blurry as hell to achieve any kind of draw distance. SWBFII did that a lot, contrast to Killzone which was good looking but had a draw of like 10 feet, which was fantastic when you get shot from things not rendered yet.

PS2 quality on a tablet isn't half bad, particularly with a slightly better resolution. But I wish they would go for it smarter and PS1 the fuck out of it with goofy charming games that don't rely on looks it can't deliver without great compromises. If it doesn't have the power then why not go for incredible sprite work and water color backgrounds again.

I know deep down that wouldn't fly, but damn gen5 was loaded so much greatness.

Even with the left being downscaled, the differences are ridiculously noticeable.

For one, right has a clear less number of textures than left, right has far more jagged edges, which is amazing, considering the sheer amount of Blur theyve added to the graphics engine, lighting is clearly different as well

someone's a little testy there

You need to realize that id tech is one of the only companies left that can actually optimize a game. D44M is almost DMC4 tier with the kind of performance you can get on it with shitty parts.

>PS2 quality on a tablet
Too retarded

It was a stream, you really think annontendo direct or e3/pax/tgs will stream at 60 fps retard

Are you retarded?
see ->

That trailer is literally a direct cut from the direct, nothing in those videos, even the games that are 60 fps were shown at 60 fps

>other games have 60 fps trailer
>doom 30fps for obvious reason (game will be 30 too)
>BUT MUH STREAM REEEEEEEEE
Nintendo defense force at full here.

Nothing is dispelled you damage controlling shill. Are you serious? It runs because the switch already runs the engine. It's also taking a severe hit to its max FPS, and suffers from missing, downscaled, or non existent textures, and lacks lighting in certain areas. Of course you can downgrade a game and play it on the Switch.

The problem here is relevant platforms, and those interested in the game already have it on the platform they want. Even remotely insinuating that the game will sell to the Nintendo fanbase is the best joke I've heard all week.

The platform does not stop being underpowered just because it has one or two games that get butchered and run comparably much worse for its port.

It's simple logic user, something you're clearly lacking

If you think its much better than PS2 quality you need to have your eyes checked. The resolution is higher but the blur to hide all the terrible lines and textures sure as hell isn't. That is exactly what late PS2 games were doing to hide the fact they were running on a toaster. SWBFII did this in larger levels fairly heavily.

Gen 7 didn't rely on it as heavily though it was still very there (Diablo 3 was is example of this stupid shit). Instead it had enough power to render, it just was full of shit textures and low poly counts so every open game was low texture distances, low distances, and barren of details (every other game is a good example of this shit).

That image posted falls somewhere between. It has some detail and resolution to it or at least did originally, but is using blur and low counts and textures to make up for the fact its struggling.

Nintendo would be smarter to go the Wind Waker/Okami route and hide limitations behind good design choices.

>It's simple logic user
Yes, very simple logic in this post -> But you still can't accept the truth.

>FPS

can someone explain what this actually means,I've only ever really dabbled with Mario games or 2-D pixels like Chrono Trigger & Alone in the Dark why is the current generation obsessed with these numbers?

Switch is barely better than the ps vita lol

youtu.be/cbRA1mCbrac

Do we know if this port has a target framerate

Frames per second, how many times the picture updates every second (don't confuse this with the genre "first-person shooters"). Cinema typically used ~24 FPS, so games have aimed for 30 FPS for a long time. Recently, 60 FPS has become the preferred standard, as it looks more fluid, and better facilitates games with fast action. Games that don't run at 60 FPS, or have inconsistent FPS, can be uncomfortable or annoying for some players. Games that it apperas you enjoy, adventure or turn-based RPG games, don't need higher FPS for the game to play well. FPS arguments are also common ammo in console wars, to say someone's system of choice is better than the competitors.

>If you think its much better than PS2 quality you need to have your eyes checked.
user, using an emulator with a texture mod really doesn't count.
PSP Ridge Racer looks Xbox quality by that logic.

Honestly, the youtube video tells us all of the information we need to know as far as graphical comparisons anyway because the only noticeable difference is the lower depth of field on the Switch version. That being said, it barely fucking matters so yeah, the Switch version looks just fucking fine. If you have one of the other systems or a good PC, then by all means, get one of those versions, but if all you have is a Switch, it's still going to look just fine and you won't be missing out on much.

Basically, the Switch version is not for the Idort master race or PCfags. It is for people who own a Switch and ONLY a Switch and I think those people will be perfectly happy with it as the DoF difference isn't that significant or important.

>bethesda games are good
so now that this meme has been dispelled, what games are you looking forward to?
