Are the games anything like the movie in tone and atmosphere?

I heard Lost Alpha has been updated this year. Is it worth playing instead of vanilla SoC?

The games are based on that movies and inspiration from the book Roadside Picnic so yeh there are similarities abounds.

>when you first have the bloodsucker dream

Lost Alpha is an entirely diffent experience though

it's not the same storyline?

IIRC, The story is similar, but some events and gameplay elements are different in Lost Alpha

I finished Call of Pripyat a few weeks ago for the first time since buying it years ago: that game holds up better than FEAR did when I replayed it.
Why are all PC games going for the survival sandbox shooter experience when we could have such good linear gameplay like the good old days?

That's just the current trend, no publisher is brave enough to push anything different

In addition, will there ever be a moment more tense in PC gaming than your first night in Zaton? That game had more atmosphere than Uranus

>survival sandbox shooter

Because making the player have to come up with their own motivations and narrative is much much easier than coming up with one yourself. Lazy. Boring. Tired.

>call of pripyat
>linear
you fucking what?

I think he means a general plot to follow and not just open endedness for the sake of it.

The lab segments from Shadow of Chernobyl and exploring Pripyat in CoP are pretty fucking excellent.

Haven't played any besides Pripyat but I'll be buying them to play around Halloween for the optimal spooky ukrainian time. Do the older ones play any better or worse tham CoP?

The movie, book and game have a number of elements in common, but do very different things.

Well, I've only played the first game but from the sound of it CoP is an improvement is basically every way over SoC and CS. However, I think I remember people being partial to SoC when it comes to the story / maps.

CoP is your best bet for an extensive mod community though.

Man I should get back to ZoA
it was such a clusterfuck of fun

would've preferred an open world metro 2033

Pick your girl Sup Forums

>playing Oblivion Lost mod
>this is pretty cool
>get to the end of Cordon
>30 military
Fuck off.
Call of Chernobyl just crashes now and I can't fix it. I just want to fuck around in the zone.

anyone remember in stalker soc when you go through that tunnel how you have to keep going through multiple chambers by opening doors? If you hesitate to open the door while the teammates that you gathered are waiting one of them says "Push the button, bro". Always makes me smile

Antonina, easy.

Hah, don't think I've had that happen.

CoP is the most polished entry in the series in terms of gameplay, however the maps, the events, the environments and the story are way better in SoC

Howdy Ho

soon

Isn't that in CoP? I remember doing that part because my favorite teammate, Zulu, from my makeshift squad got fucked by the little hamster things while I searched for the very obvious button

Man, the english voices in CoP were atrocious

you mean great

I like it. It makes the zone feel more surreal.
Everyone calls you bro and speaks to you in english, then starts yelling in russian

The games are great, and the focus on systems is the only reason why we can keep talking about them even now, but it can only go so far
wasn't that asshole supposedly building a team again?

Well, I won't deny that I took a liking to them after hearing them for a while

The last thing i heard was they said something in an interview.
>interviewer asks about stalker 2
>spokesperson says "You'll just have to see :^)"

yeah that was it, when you go through the jupiter tunnels to get to pripyat

How did the new Cossacks game fared on steam?

What are you a statue? If you've got something spyll the byens, if not take a hike.
Thats right get outta here

Monolith did nothing wrong

Olga hands down. It's cold out there in pollak town and she wrestled a fucking bear man... a bear. She's the proud loyal one here and the others will just end up looking like her at some point or another.

>NA ZDROWIE ya old crone

I can hear it

these small things add up and make STALKER so damn fetching and unique.

I know steam spy is innacurate, but around 270,000 copies.

I don't understand, if this series is so cherished, then why wouldn't it come back? Why are consumers doomed to never get the actual things they want and have to settle? It sucks.

I'm sure the open world Metro will be very good and fill all the needs that STALKER gives us.
UBISOFT TOWERS

I have zero faith it will bring any of what was so special back.

I don't think the new Metro is going to be an open world game. Maybe slightly less linear but that's all.

I doubt it, Metro has too much "cinematic" elements in it's gameplay, it'll never fill the void left by the stalker series

Because it's hard to recommend a game that looks like a tarnished silver fiddle: dirty but plays well

Wish Granter, I want the STALKER series to return!

There is no good reason a STALKER revisit with today's tech wouldn't be welcomed

>inb4 corridor shooter, season passes, online only

God do I truly hate this industry sometimes.

Your wish has been granted

This.
The Stalker games are unique in the sense that, while offering a linear progression through its story, it has real emergent gameplay in the open world. The enemy AI is just tweaked (or broken) enough that they start roaming around the entire map, which always ends in huge clusterfucks where anything can happen. Its why every Stalker thread has unique stories in them.

I liked Metro, especially on Ranger difficulty, but its a cinematic on-the-rails shooter without the freedom (and risks) of the Stalkers open worlds.

>tfw no game with the dialogue of FNV combined with the open world, spoopyness and gameplay of a S.T.A.L.K.E.R game set in a snowy landscape

You guys should check out Escape from Tarkov. Its in closed beta, when its actually more like late alpha. Regardless its in a very playable state and aside from bugs and a memory leak issue that seems to rear its head once in a while, its pretty fun.

Its not Stalker and it probably wont be Stalker, but from the way things are looking it looks like it'll be the closest thing we get.

Right now, it's a game of looting maps and enemy AI while working with or against other players and then extracting at specific areas of the map. The gunplay is great and the weapon modification system is every bit as awesome as it was originally shown to be.

anybody got any dl?

If you are willing to compromise on a different vision of the game, Lost Alpha is 100% free. Also, aren't these games going for like 10 bucks now?

The thing about Metro though is that it has the aesthetics and the ambiance down. All they have to do is make more things like the one Last Light dlc where you literally playing Stalker through the library.

that feeling of understanding your surroundings versus Metro's enjoyable but still very stilted gameplay is what keeps stalker above in my opinion. Both great series but just similar in setting but that's really about it.

I would hate to see that. The systems would be half baked because the rest of the budget that isn't spent on marketing will be wasted making every bump visible on a bloodsucker's wrinkly ass, and all the people new to the game would complain at the small size of the open world map(s)

how do you get into the beta? You know anyone willing to give a key?

Any thoughts on the idea of a CD Projekt Red STALKER game? I think of the bestiary and in-depth side stories of Witcher 3 but with a STALKER setting and atmosphere.
Think they would do alright given the opportunity?

keep it first person and it could work, but they would need to keep things simple and get up their own asses with exposition.

I don't know how they would fare. Actually seeing Cyberpunk could give an idea, but that's a never ever.

Remember kids, if you want to try out the Stalker series, don't be a retard and start with Call of Chernobyl, Lost Alpha or god forbid, a meme mod like Misery.

Play SoC first, then Clear Sky and finally CoP. You can use minimal graphical mods, but try to avoid gameplay changers. The story in these games is worth experiencing, and if you start with the modded overhauls, you will not have a single clue what's going on, nor will anything be properly explained.

Y E S
fuck. Grab the starter packs only and then play it. Mods especially Call of Chernobyl should not be touched until afterwards.

Its your basic preorder for access right now. They have a few more expensive packages right now that come with a larger stash and a larger protected container. At the moment there is no other way to increase stash size or get a larger container though I understand there will be ways to do it in the full game.

so it's just an arena shooter is that right?

I'm not enjoying Clear Sky as much as I did SoC. I wonder how long it is, since I want to play CoP already.

Can't really pin-point what it is that I enjoy less. It's more buggy that's for sure and I get a lot of crashes too. Feels harder too.

Fuck Clear Sky. Do it last.
Not worth risking someone quitting the series because of that abomination and missing out on CoP.

that dlc was amazing

...

Not really the term I'd use. Only one of the current maps is small enough to be considered as such but in terms of what there is to do in the game at the moment, it is pretty much just kill ai and other players and escape with loot.

YA SOLDAT

Go play CoP already.
I like CS myself, but its definitely the roughest and least engaging game in the series.

first for call of chernobyl is a shit mod that adds shitton of maps to explore and then punishes exploration by adding faction patches and maybe a bandage if you're lucky to the stash at the end of corridor filled with mutants and anomalies

sounds like fun, what's the catch? Pay2win or something?

Can you mod out grenades? That would make the experience better.

>Engage bandit squad
>Get two shots in
>Four grenade icons

not him but also escape from tarkov player, been in since first admission of alpha wave with cheapest package.
There is no catch, no pay to win. The core gameplay is pretty good but the game is still in alpha meaning most of the content and shit you normally test in beta is not ingame.
It has stalker tier bugs too.
But honestly the game is good and fun with some people.
In an ideal world we'd get escape from tarkov gameplay in stalker universe. But as it is now EFT is nothing like stalker. It's more like arma 3 with polished movement controls in post apocalypse. It's more of a military shooter with loot.

what the fuck is that picture from

bruh that's fun though

The only thing that could be considered p2w would be increased stash size and larger protected containers, nothing game breaking. I bough the cheapest package and I've gotten more than my moneys worth.

A large update is supposed to land in the next couple weeks or so that will add trader quests and some other shit, so it's not looking like Tarkovs going to end up being eternally early access.

No. LA is almost nothing like the SoC, beyond the premise and setting.

This x100 !

Consult this Starting Guide,
then see the /vg/'s huge Stalker General for more tips and links: Play in the release order. Start with no mods - only latest patch, OR get the full "Starter Pack" first; these contain bug-fixers and light visual mods that can help performance as well.
Leave big overhauls for later playthrougs. Avoid the "Complete" -mods. Always play on MASTER difficulty for best realism and atmosphere, and disable crosshair.

Don't give up in the beginning! The starting gear sucks ass and first area can be a bit boring.

I am in the middle of CS as well, I won't say SoC is a perfect game but I really enjoy the change of atmosphere once you are deep into some underground facilities and how desolate the Zone is.

Clear Sky is in fact improve much upon SoC, at least you can repair and upgrade your equipments. It lacks the change of atmosphere though, most of the time you are just shooting shit in open landscape and less spooky than the first game. The grenades are really shit too, it just instant death.

...

I'm currently playing soc winter mod and I'm using a finnish loadout. It's very comfy and takes me back to my army days

ANU CHEEKI BREEKI CTANKEP

from what? The game or from my time of service?

Both?

no, because whenever I want to ask anybody about Lost Alpha, they flip their shit over and start mumbling "it's shiiiit" like retard descendants of Yantar zombies.

On a side-note: has anybody tried out Survarium's exploration mode? Is it any good and worth re-downloading the game?

what you are asking for is the Zone, free of any human enemies, living creatures, completely invisible anomalies and 2 NPC at max to use as your personal minesweepers with one goal of reaching the monolith, whilst they talking nonsense all the way through.

It wouldn't be hard to make such mod, but it wouldn't be too interesting.

All it does is make shitty short-ranged weapons like the pistol worthless, while rewarding the already overpowered rifles. CS was a mistake.

they don't keep throwing them, man. you just gotta run once,

I don't have too many. Also is that your own mag?

not my own pic. Saved it years ago from /k/.
obviously anything non-SAKO waffle is an "omakustannevaruste"

its a good game, have few bugs but a good game.

the online game still alive?

game
Of course, was just wondering if ou were actually using that. I think I should have a pic when I had an aimpoint on my rk95

seems like practically the same as Oblivion Lost 2 all those years ago
