I've always loved this game. It's just the movie meme and shit that people like to spout. It's also the only PS3 exclusive MGS so you have a fair amount of sour grapes going around as well.

Having played it for the first time this year

Gameplay is fantastic, some of the best of the series
there's an absolute fuckton of content and attention to detail, they really went all out for this
despite the lack of the main series theme the score is excellent

that said, the story is a fucking raging flaming shitpile trainwreck. I honestly don't believe I've played a game with a worse story than this ever. It shits all over the legacy of MGS2 and pretty much ruins the whole series, which is why I consider MGS4 and MGRR to be noncanon.

Metal Gear Online is busted to shit and not fun either, it's just a headshot run n' gun fest.

Even if you skip all the cutscenes the game is twice as long as MGS3, not to mention MGS4 is actually challenging and the AI actually tries and the level design isn't built to just lay down in tall grass and be invisible 100% of the time.

MGS 4 is still the worst game in the series. No, Peace Walker isn't worse. No, V isn't worse.

So that mission padding, barren open world, reflex mode, weapon limit, real time development, heavy emphasis on FOBs and mother base, shit villain, and missing chapter 3 is somehow better than 4?

Even if Kojima Is a talentless hack, the game gave a closure to Solid story and the gameplay isn't that bad either, only the first half of act 3 is shit and tedious. Meanwhile, V contributes nothing to the story, makes Big Boss a pussy and the game itself is repetitive as fuck. If they didn't have a good abd long enough script, why not just making the main story short and everything else optional like every sandbox game ever?

I really like the game overall. The really good parts make up for the bad imo

Yes. Miles better, in fact. 4 isn't even a game for more than halfway through, let alone a stealth game.
