>What do you think of this series in general?
my favorite FPS series, only held back by Croteam's low budget

modded BFE

Solais is a faggot that makes me question the game's engine

I love 'em.
BFE is my favorite. Way better than D44M.

Can't wait for Sam4 (and Talos 2).

I bought the whole pack for 10 bucks when Talos cames out, but I only played the First and Second Encounter. Should I bother with the rest?

Absolutely.
2 is arguably one of the most varied FPS games out there in terms of enemy design and locations but plays a bit slower and "consolish" than the rest.
3:BFE is getting an overhaul right now in Serious Sam Fusion and a (free) post-release remaster in that hub program once Fusion is out of beta so you might want to wait with that one.
Random Encounter is a "play it once and never again" title that might not even work on your PC properly since the Gamemaker version it was made in wasn't optimised for 64bit systems and will randomly crash.
Double D is just batshit insane an worth two playthroughs for the different dialogues of each character.
Bogus Detour, while not part of that bundle, is also worth playing but has one of the most poorly designed final bosses I've ever seen in a game that stands in a ridiculous contrast to the rest of the game which is pretty well made.

Totally.
2 is a bit meh, being desiged for the Xbox Fat, but it's bearable.

SS3 is easily my favorite shooter of the decade.

>"So I heard you were talking shit about VR..."

4 WHEN GODDAMIT

I don't have anything remotely interesting to say.

Second Encounter is my favorite.

Playing with friends is much more enjoyable than single player.

That's about it. SS3 was good, but

a) The environments were boring
b) Too many perfectly accurate brown hitscan enemies hiding in brown clutter in huge brown arenas was not very fun.

Cool game, hope SS4 will be good and I hope no more kleer skeletons, I mean enough is enough.

>they buffed Kleer lunge damage form 40 to 50 in SS3

For what purpose

>Cool game, hope SS4 will be good and I hope no more kleer skeletons, I mean enough is enough
Wrong, we need more kleer skeletons

How will they innovate in SS4 now that nuDoom has redefined the modern fps?

Here have a pill

This is what I imagine a kleer poster would post. No beating around the bush or any capability of hiding his identity. Just asserting his presence.

by having more than six enemies at once on screen

Am I missing something?
Started with 3, hated the beginning levels but the later levels felt pretty good.
Tried to play the First Encounter and I hate it more than 3. The temples are fucking garbage and have the worst fucking enemy placement I've ever seen. Go down a hallway and see an adult arachnoid(?), which then spawns 3 kleers behind you. Picking up a 25 health pack and 1 armor spawns a kleer and 10 frogs in a small room. Every room is narrow and linear filled with enemies that all attack at close range. Does it get better or do they keep making me go through tiny rooms filled with annoying enemies?

Why does nobody ever talk about pic related?

To be fair, there's not a whole lot more than six.

I think nudoom's achievement was not in reviving old school FPS, but in doing its own thing. It has its roots in the '90s, but this whole parkour-around-a-small-arena thing is uniquely Doom 4.

>console only
No one played it and it wasn't even made by croteam

>gamecube

It becomes a lot different later. That's the thing with Serious Sam games - you always start out clearing corridors with gimmicky traps, but later on end up in extremely simple, larger-than-life arenas filled with oceans of murderous crap.

3 feels antiquated after playing DOOM4
constantly reloading feels bad man

breddy good

it didn't redefine anything, and SS3 was way better "Doom4" game in the first place.

All Croteam needs to do is add bit more layers and verticality to their levels. They're clearly also going to innovate with the game's quiet moments, as evident by their last attempt turning into a brand new game; The Talos Principle.

I felt completely opposite.
Also there's reload function on like 2 weapons, and timing them adds depth to the enemy encounters.

>All Croteam needs to do is add bit more layers and verticality to their levels

The big issue of 3 was that it relied TOO much on actual locations since most of those they used actually ARE as flat as they are in-game.
I would have loved something like a jetpack section where you'd have to jump from building to building or some actual action inside the Sirian ruins where they could've gone wild with the level design but oh well, I guess half a million $ budget only gets you so far.

In the order I like them the most.
TSE > BFE > TFE > SS2

What if you took the pointless finishers from BFE and made them drop health and ammo like Doom?

And I have my worries that 4 will be that much different given that they already hinted at places like Andre Citroen Park being in-game locations.

Doom 4 didn't redefine anything. It just took concept of Painkiller and Serious Sam and added retarded Kill moves.

every ps2 game you could get on the GC was better.

>When Revolution's getting out of water glitch still hasn't been fixed

Spotted the Kleer.

...

it'd ruin the whole game, just like they did in D4.

...

...

BFE>SS2=TSE>TFE. honestly.

It would actually add gameplay beyond holding S though

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Thats the first time I've ever seen that ranking, and I'm a TFE>BFE>TSE>SS2 fag.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

>This fucking meme again

my nigger

Serious S4m

...

Blame the marketing for that.

Is this what Croteam thinks of us?

1st and 2nd encounter are cool as fuck, once you get into them. 2 is a load of shit. Haven't played 3.

The most autistic ranking passing through!

>tfw killed the thread
I'm sorry guys

>The Sacred Yards
>8/10
fuck those tiny ass bullshit scorpions and lame ass "T" layout and half the arenas are too small for the amount of red biomechs they use and goddamn its the worst level in the franchise

I actually have to give Summer in Cairo a lot of credit for being a "show don't tell" tutorial level done right.

>start with no weapons - learn melee attacks by getting attacked by a Gnaar and no space to evade
>barricaded door - get hammer to smash it down or if you are somewhat game-savvy you'd jump over the railing, find a secret hammer and shotgun ammo and parcours your way down
>+1HP in front of a wanted poster - teaches you how to read posters, graffitis and shit
>Gnaar smashes through odd looking wall - teaches you that you can smash down stuff like that
>pick up pistol and a Kamikaze immediately spawns - lean ranged battle and how melee isn't always an option
>got all of this? - good, welcome to Serious Sam - here's your first horde of Kamikazeas and large scale battle
>in case you missed the poster, here's a +1HP pill in front of a stone tablet for you to decipher

All without a single pop-up window.

nah, this isn't bad for a sam thread
either we get about 30ish before page 10, or some bro starts posting screenshots of SSHD, 3 and Talos environments

When you put it like that, I could bump it up a point or two. My problem is that I've played through all these game games so many times I just cant' find fun in a few of the starting BFE levels. Which is a problem compared with starting levels in the other two.

Anyone else not happy with Fusion 2017's updates to SS3?
>made kleers jump 100% faster, added random homing projectiles like revenants
>they were basically perfect before in 3 og
>changed a bunch of weapon sounds, now they hardly match the models
>added clip size to the single shotgun, ensuring you'll almost never need to reload in battle
>messed with sams movement speed
>removed enemies from several levels
The Guardian of Time could use abit of a nerf I suppose, but everything else has me deeply worried about 4, since 3 wasn't perfect, but when it was good, it had some of the best moments of the franchise.

I'm waiting for an update or two until SS3 is restored. They're swearing they're in the middle of redesigning the game with even more enemies.

The new spread on the shotgun is amazing tho

I got hooked since youtube.com/watch?v=gJ7paV-nJNo

As said before, one of the issues of BFE is that quite a lot of it is based on real life locations and while some like the Ibn Tulun Mosque or the Light & Sound Theater end up as pretty fun areas, some didn't really work that well as video game levels.
The Egyptain Museum in Cairo for example looks exactly like that (well, with less spiders and ivy and more exhibits), right down to the basement which actually is even more cramped.
youtube.com/watch?v=PQFT4lpeQ44
But having this as a level in a horde shooter?
Nah, that was a bad decision and more or less an excuse to have a somewhat plausible place where a professor could be rescued from.

I only played 3, but it was fucking awesome

I'm glad Fusion allowed us to have so many custom weapons

Oh shit, I haven't checked it out since Fusion's 3 beta launch.
Guess we'll see how it turns out, at the very least we should be seeing new times of day, like in Under the Iron Cloud
Vanilla 3 bugged me with how 80% of it was cloudless high noon

being a starving horror-fag, I loved the museum sections. Never been really scared of anything in SS games, but 3 managed to make fucking Kleers spooky, if only for a while.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Fusion isn't made by the same team as 4 and that one dev they recently hired from their fanbase makes a lot of relatively mundane shit sound like you'd need to rewrite the entire engine for it.
Like that new Kleer projectile that was once supposed to travel along the floor but ended up glitching and hitting random geometry (nevermind that the firecracker projectiles in the Enhanced mod work perfectly fine), how the superior VR Witch Bride couldn't be implemented and yet a modder just did that or how Aludran Reptiloids couldn't be used in base BFE since they are hardcoded into the DLC (what. the. fuck.).

jesus, I've not booted the game up in a while. That obligatory now?

did you guys play this yet nobody bought it did they

>forgot image
I'm a failure

Yes.
Some other stuff also got a massive upgrade like how water doesn't have any hard edges anymore.

Only in Fusion, vanilla 3 works as well as it did before.
Personally I like it, reminds me of all the TOD changes in The First Encounter.

Bogus Detour is great except I'm too much of a casual scrub for the life system. It retains all the difficulty of the mainline games, but instead of quicksaves, a 3-life system, where you can get bonuses.
Also it was on sale on Humble for 2.25 of something, didn't sell well at all :(

I did.
It's fun, probably the best spin-off SS game we've had.
Bosses are kinda shit though

Heir to the throne now that Doom and Quake are dead

Yes, it's a good game. The only problem is I don't like Hotline Miami gameplay style. I barely forced myself to finish a level. It's a shame and I really wanted to like it, but I just can't get into games like these.

...

tbf it gets better, once you're in rome and switching weapons for a bunch of different enemy types it feels more like the mainline franchise.
I'd say stick with it turn on unlimited lives

>fusion has vr support
>can only use it if you have the $40 vr games

this is coming from someone who loves hotline miami, so ymmv

So should I play BFE or wait for them to do all the gameplay updates with Fusion first?

oh yeah, forgot about that

These fucks haven't released a good PC FPS since TSE so I don't have my hopes up

>download the Enhanced mod, classic Rocketeer and Kamikaze stats and no reloading mods
>host multiplayer game but set the max player number to 1
>choose coin-op
>have crazy arcade fun

I remember picking up the first encounter on a whim at CompUSA and loving it. Then showing it to my friends and all of us playing through it at a LAN party and having a blast. Then doing the same with the second encounter.

By the time SS3 came out though, we were all busy adults with no time for video games. I played about an hour of it by myself, but just couldn't get into it. Couldn't recapture that classic co-op experience playing by myself. I'll always have fond memories of Serious Sam but sadly I don't think there's anything left for me there now.

can't go wrong with base SS3. It'll be a while before fusion is fixed up, and even then it could turn out worse

fun, but not the best idea for a 1st playthrough unless you don't mind restarting alot

...

>Played TFE, TSE, BFE and enjoy them
>Play Serious DD and it's still fun
>No one ever talk about it

Who here played /bestmod/

It's indie and relatively new

Plus the game is short and doesn't have a lot of mods, so there's not much to talk about
