Super Mario Sunshine Defense thread

How is collecting blue coins any different from a level like rescuing the penguin in 64? It's still exploration collectathon platforming except sunshine has better physics, controls, graphics and sound quality.

I don't remember having to collect many blue coins to beat the game. Am I wrong? Is my memory failing me or just 100% fags complaining?

While far from my favorite Mario game, I always love playing it during the summer. Plus I always thought that Peach's summer dress is cute

It was certainly more engaing than the two Galaxy games.

100% fags complaining

Because Blue Coins don't further your progress unless you're 100%ing it.

You don't need to collect a single blue coin to beat the game. People complain about blue coins that they are just fillers to have the game have 120 stars.

Same. I think it's the worst 3D Mario by a wide margin but I play through it every single summer.

...

...

what the fuck is with that blooper

sunshine looks better than bloom filter odyssey atleast

...

Blue coins aren't required, the only thing required to beat the game is to get the 7th star from each world

...

Sunshine is the best Mario game. Period.

...

That's one of the worse aspects of the game, it means it's the same shit every time you play it. SMS didn't just have lame level design, it had a major deficit of levels.

blue coins are the worst kind of padding, they're entirely irrelevant objects. getting a star has value, and the decision to skip a star has value too, which makes 64 the more interesting game in terms of collecting. it also happens to contain far more competently designed levels.

Sunshine hate is just assblasted 64fags, sunshine has a few less levels but they're all bigger and nicer looking. The levels in 64 start out meh and only get worse. The last world is just a bunch of random assets vomited onto a blank sky canvas

>muh level themes
rainbow ride is better designed than anything in sunshine

how can anyone be this retarded and delusional?

>Doing the stupid carpet ride 5 times for all the stars is good level design
>This is what 64fags actually believe

the good thing about 64 is that you can skip the stars you don't like

>challenging level design that puts your precision platforming skills to the test
>there's even greater opportunity for skilled players to skip large parts of the level with clever jumps
>still manages to be nonlinear
show me a single sunshine stage that accomplishes this
you literally never have to ride on the first one. longjumping to the pole behind the starting point is faster than waiting on it. the other rugs actually challenge you, and some of them are skippable if you're good.

>64babbies whine because they can't skip the manta

>sunshinefetuses mindlessly justify the omission of skippable stages despite most of the missions in their game actually being poorly designed and worth skipping

t. brainlet who couldn't find yoshi in hotel delfino

man look at all these amazing arguments, great sunshine defense thread!

Why are 64 and Sunshine people fighting? They're both good games man...

It's Galaxy 1/2 that are the truly bad games

Wait a minute that manhole cover

sunshine isn't good, and it's definitely worse than the galaxy games (though they certainly have their own problems)

why's tht?

>there's even greater opportunity for skilled players to skip large parts of the level with clever jumps

I honestly don't believe that a good ninety percent of that was intentional. Personally, 64 and sunshine are two of my favorite games. loved them both. Kinda hype for Odyssey since they advertise it as a return to that. Galaxy was okay. Still prefer 64 and sunshine.

>waggle platformers ever better than a non-waggle platformers

I was going to be mad because I thought school was back in but then I remembered its Sunday.

everything about the spin jump sucks, I agree, but at least the galaxy games have some legitimately interesting level design

Literally none of the 3D Mario games are bad
64
Sunshine
Galaxy
Galaxy 2
3D Land
3D World
I have little reason to believe Odyssey will go wrong

If you see somebody legitimately hating a 3D Mario game they're fucking Nu/v/ slime trying to hate things to fit in. Call them out on their shit.

I'm the sunshine hater ITT and while I appreciate the game's movement mechanics (not FLUDD) there are only about three worlds in the game that are actually fun to jump around in. Maybe I'd be going too far to call that bad, but I certainly think it falls far below the other games.

on that list 3D world is my favourite, I'm not meming I just don't like exploration

No shame in that, 3D World is the most successful attempt to translate 2D-style precision platforming into a 3D space. The only reason people hate on it is because it's so different in its design philosophy than other games in the series.

I don't mind blue coins themselves, but I think some of them were really unfair. Sometimes they appear only on specific episodes and the game won't let you know how many you've found out of the possible ones so far. You only have the X/30 indicator for each world. Finding them all without a guide actually takes forever.

Unless there's some sort of indicator I missed that makes it easier to track them down.

'Most offensive thing in Sunshine is that they gave Bowser a VA.

Everything else is fine.

>Unless there's some sort of indicator I missed that makes it easier to track them down.
There isn't one. You basically have to go through each episode of each level with a fine comb to find each blue coin.

paying 50 coins for a hint on where the next moon is a smart idea

Will people actually do this in the internet age though?

I'd do that instead of spending like 10 minutes trying to find a guide that isn't shitty/shittily formatted

mildly more convenient than putting the game down, hopping on youtube and looking for a letsplay that shows you how to do it

And/or spoilers

I feel like at some point I'm gonna be out of ideas for the last few moons and will just use the bird to locate the last few, they can't be THAT hard to find, right?

why are sunshinefags so shit at defending their game?

This.

Not as good as 64 but worlds ahead of the Galaxy games.
