so, how is it?
is it good as I, II and Origin?
Ys VIII
I wish I could answer you, but the PC release got delayed with no releasedate
RELEASE IT ON PC YOU FUCK
PS4 player here
Sucks to be a pcirate right now, doesn't it? The game is awesome, you're missing out.
Beat it on PS4 last night. Definitely the best out of the party-system based Ys games. And yes, it's as good as I, II, and Origin
nice thanks
I probably will be getting it as late as pcbros anyways since im a poorfag, should have waited for this instead of Wipeout
the game just came out, how much time per day did you spend playing it
>it's as good as I, II, and Origin
I swear to fucking god if you're setting me up for disappointment I will hunt you down and destroy all your vidya merch.
How does Inferno compare to Nightmare on those games and Felghana?
So if I haven't played any Ys before, will I...
[ ] fully enjoy it
[ ] enjoy most of it except for some small aspects that enhance the lore but otherwise doesn't matter much for the plot of the current game
[ ] miss many important references such that the plot becomes somewhat dull/incomprehensible
If I have limited time, which of the previous Ys should I play in order of importance to better enjoy this game?
Amazon are taking their time sending it to me, so I won't get it until next week. I've only played Celceta before, is it a good representation of the main series?
No. Falcom likes to change things up.
Not really, I enjoyed Celceta but its not like the previous games. 7 Celceta and 8 are party based while the rest are single character and a lot less rpg-like. Old Ys is more action adventure then rpg.
Depends on what you like the most. Diffculty wise no, VIII isn't really hard. Origin and Oath still much better. That said, the combat is still fluid and fast. Very fun to play. Also a great world to explore. It's just adventure all around which is Adol's thing.
Option 2. Pretty much every Ys game except Ys I and II is like that. Ys I is full enjoyment and Ys II is option 3, since they're two parts of one story.
You can enjoy Ys VIII on its own, there are a few returning characters but they're mostly inconsequential. And one of the cool things about Ys lore is that for the most part you can piece it together and still have that "oh shit i see what they did" moment regardless of your play order.
Never played a Ys game before.
Picked this up because I'm a JRPG loving weeb.
Honestly, I really like this game.
Pretty unique plot for a JRPG and rewards you for exploration.
While Ys follows a linear timeline, the stories are pretty much independent. Only Origins, I and II are truly connected outside of the usual "Adol the motherfucking Red is in town and he wants to murder demons cocktease pure maidens".
If you want to understand more about how it all started and maybe understand why Adol is an adventuresexual, Play I&II first, then Origins (prequel but it kind of expects you to know what happened in I&II).
I've played every Ys game but the story is so unimportant in this series that I never remember it so I never get any of the references or recognize any of the returning characters
Most Ys games are standalone. They do reference each other in some fashion. But never enough to feel totally lost.
You are meant to play 1 and 2 in order though. Plus Origin. Even if it's a very distant prequel is sorta connected .
There are some brief mentions of NPCs from past games between titles. Otherwise, here's a crash course on the characters you absolutely need to acquaint yourself with:
Adol - MC. Has red hair (this is extremely important). Disregards many, many bitches and acquires his one true waifu: adventure. Has a fetish for getting shipwrecked and washing up on beaches. Destroys ancient evils like a ghetto nigga destroys kfc bucket meals. Seriously, this guy has a long resume.
Dogi: Adol's completely platonic best buddy/ sidekick in a totally non-homoerotic manner. Has blue hair and punches walls. He also punches other stuff, but walls are his natural prey.
The latter has been getting shafted as of late, so really, the only true protagonist is just Adol and his insatiable lust for adventure-pussy. If you want to start the series at where it began getting the recognition it has today, start with Ark of Napishtim. If you like the playstyle, continue with Oath in Felghana then play Origins. The 2D titles are also worth checking out if you want to experience the lore that started it all (and why the series is called Ys), but some of them haven't aged well.
All of the titles after SEVEN changed up the formula with a party system that allows you to switch characters on the fly. They're still fun games, but people have divided opinions on them because the series tends to be at its best when you're just playing as Adol wrecking eldritch evils and rejecting thots.
Thanks for the tips!
You owe it to yourself to go back and experience the other Ys games. Your eardrums will thank you.
>true waifu: adventure
Incorrect, Feena was.
unironically the best game in the series next to Origin
