make sure to keep insides clean
very annoying to have your laptop shut down randomly due to heat

>Gaming laptop
It'll die in 2-3 years

Build a desktop, it's so easy LITERAL RETARDS can do it, shit is lego.

>PC
that's a laptop, not a PC. PC means desktop.

I have a gaming laptop that can handle most games at max settings. For about 15 minutes before it gets too hot for comfort, even with the auxillary fans at full blast and sounding like a freight train so I have to turn the speakers up. It can run them just fine, but it can't stay cool for shit. It's a waste of potential, really. Last "gaming laptop" I ever own.

Also, a $8 fan is a warranty service call because it all hamfisted into a tiny spice and smelted to copper heatsink tubes and everything else. For a desktop, it would have been 5 screws and a can of airduster. Fucking ridiculous.

>PC means desktop.

or "personal computer," but whatever. do your thing.

Nice paperweight, reddit.

>980
I got a 1050 ti on mine

not OP, but I got a gayman laptop because I needed a mobile solution for video editing because of my job
Turns out the thing is also good for games, but I wished it didnt have all that GAYMAN design cues,

>Had a dope ass GAMING LAPTOP when I went to college.
>Would bring it out and take notes on it when in class.
>Felt super proud having it, thought everybody was super jealous when the turbo fans kicked on from it booting up.
>If someone struck me down and used those cringe-worthy moments as the reason I wouldn't even try and refute them.

No one ever believes that gaming laptops are memes until they own one.

>980m

enjoy not being able to use nvidia shadowplay

>he doesn't have a predator laptop
get on my level, plebs.

>owning a laptop
lmao casual cuck

Gaming laptops run HOT, so hot that they shorten the lifespan of the other components as well because the heat stresses everything so much.

They're bad.

I will say however, the Nvidia 1000 series is far less shit than past mobile chipsets as they're strong and run reasonably cool.

However the lack of a truly modular system means when something dies, it's a pain/expensive to fix it.

Being able to swap parts when shit breaks is great, and good parts tend to have great warranties that last years vs the standard 1 year for laptops.

>I wished it didnt have all that GAYMAN design cues
I seriously wish they would stop that. The only ones that don't scream "GAMER! WE GOT A GAYMER OVER HERE!" are still a little too gamer designed like the MSI Stealth laptops, or the Razer ones. I found image related with a GTX 1060, but it looks like a cheap laptop from 2006. Probably going to get the Stealth MSI laptop because of its portability.

>buying a "gaming" laptop
>buying a prebuilt "gaming" desktop
>buying anything marketed as for gaming
You are the real losers on this board.

I had a low-profile 14" Lenovo Y-series that just looked like any other laptop. My roommate, however, had a giant ass alienware that sounded like a vacuum cleaner and I think he did use it in class a lot.

Gaming laptops and prebuilts are luxury items. And fairly cheap luxury items at that. Call me back when you buy a European made, $45,000 baby grand piano.

>it looks like a cheap laptop from 2006.

I don't think you have to worry about people mistaking it for a laptop from 2006. All 2006 laptops have been in a landfill since 3rd quarter 2007.

It's really only Alienware that looks way over the top.

my previous work laptop was a vaio with a first gen i5, it lasted me almost a decade, it ran hot though all of its life with its little shitty single fan, but it did the job, this new one gets way less hot than the vaio and has two pretty decent fans, tested it with Doom4 and some other games, didnt get hot at all, just a mild lukewarm

Looking up prices before buing this new laptop I found a trend that most of the cheap stuff that have good hardware looks over the top, if you want a serious looking machine that has some power, you are going to pay a lot for it OR they are going to cheap out on the screen and give you a 768p screen

Mine is an Acer Aspire VX, it is quite over the top

>980m
>Not 1070 or 1080 or even 1060

I think the universal truth is that you will never find someone who's owned both a desktop computer and a laptop computer who would recommend buying a laptop computer for anything other than routine office/school work.

I guess so. Still, the silver top and black plastic bottom don't look modern at all. The cheap silver plastic bezel around the screen makes it look even worse. I would like HP's Envy laptop design philosophy with the capability and price of the MSI Stealth Pro. Asus has a decent gaming laptops, but the cheaper ones have terrible screens, and their expensive ones cost way too much for their gimmick.

HP OMEN laptops are pretty bad. Acer and Gigabyte ones also look wacky. And I'm sure I don't need to mention all the obscure brands.

>Felt super proud having it, thought everybody was super jealous when the turbo fans kicked on from it booting up.
Thanks for the good laugh

Anywhere I can buy a custom gaming Grand piano?

>CUK MSI GP72
>CUK

lmao fatty, looks more like a scale to me. eat a salad, ugly.

Envys look pretty damn good, HP always had good looking units
Sony also used to make some good looking and presentable machines before they dropped of the computer game
Samsung looks too disposable though, even though they make some decently powered PCs, for example Samsung has the same config as OP on a non gay looking shell
Asus is shit

I have a friend that burned through 4 laptops before listening to me, he couldn't wrap his head around the fact that laptops aren't good for gaming due to over heating, small space and overall smaller components that die faster.

>playing games on a laptop
Do you niggers even know what thermal throttling is? This shit has the same performance of a desktop GTX 950.

Yamaha makes a few with speakers in them. That's as gimmicky as they get.

The ROG Zephyrus and their premium Ultrabooks seem fine. The problem is that the Zephyrus costs too much for something that will be quickly outdated.

that thing looks disgusting
>touch keypad
disgusting I say

Gaming laptops aren't that bad if you travel a lot.
My one from 5 years ago died recently, but that was more because I was an idiot and left it on all night sometimes.

Yeah, but there was no room for a normally placed touchpad and a keypad. That flat area above the keyboard is part of the cooling system. It sucks in cool air from there, and blows it out the back. Pretty neat design, but not worth the price.

Is that space between the keyboard and the screen a touchpad?

>people where I work have gaming laptops
>they used them for literal 3D power point presentations

Gaming laptops are a joke

It's a bait. No one would come and boast about a gayming laptop especially with outdated hardware. Not to mention the battlefront bit.

the only gayme that doesnt work is league of legends
thats realistically the only game i play consistently. everything else is emulation or game development

I build my own desktops but if I was the son of a Saudi oil baron, I'd grab one of these in a heartbeat.

Why do people think they need to have a gaming laptop for college? Or anyone who doesn't travel a shit ton? I have a desktop in my dorm

At that point you might as well carry a desktop into class. Those crazy laptops stool end up weighing like 20-25 lbs so they can fit all that GAMER GEAR inside and have a huge screen and big clicky keys. Its just a waste

Gaming laptops are actually starting to make some sense now. You could buy a Macbook and have a good battery life, or for a similar price you could get image related with better performance. It depends on what you would prefer.

Gaming laptops always made sense if you're the kind of person who travels a lot.

Well, older gaming laptops have a habit of breaking a lot, and having no battery life. All the good mobile GPU's would overheat. Heck, I'm on an MSI with a GTX 765m and it still gets really hot doing anything other than web browsing. The newest components are making gaming laptops look more worthwhile to your average person. If only they would make gaming capable laptops without the gamer aesthetic.

Recommend me a laptop that looks acceptable for school/work but can also run recent AAA titles

>Have had my gaming laptop since 2015
>Still plays games well (not everything on max, but it plays fine)
>No heat issues or anything
>Like using it because I can move around the room and take it places if I need/want to

I'm fine with gaming laptops. Dunno why everyone else hates them, unless I'm just lucky.

It's not so much that people hate them as they're just not socially acceptable. you can bet that everyone is going to be judging you if you bring a glowing razer laptop into a public space, especially if you're playing vidya on it

>spend 1.3k on laptop
>working good for a month or two
>suddenly get retarded diagonal (yes, diagonal) screen tearing issues in almost every game that doesn't use dx12 no matter what settings I use
>3 months later, ram usage will randomly crawl up to 99% before it freezes and bluescreens shortly after, giving a random different error almost every time
I wish I could say it wasn't a hardware problem but I've done a factory reset twice now. I wish I'd get a replacement but I doubt those chinks give a shit.
PSA: don't buy gaming laptops. especially not MSI shit.

For all the faggots saying that it will overheat I have this model and it runs cool no matter what I'm doing on it, mostly because it blows air from the back

if it's only a month or two and there's some sort of warranty you should definitely try to get a replacement

I just want a decent laptop that can play older games and indie games
No GPU needed
But decent CPU for emulation
But something that lasts very long, my previous laptops shit the bed too fast
Also it needs a numpad

Any quality brand with a GTX 1050 ti.

just ordered one of these GPD Pockets

anyone here use one? I hope to use it as an emulators paradise
