How about you play it and figure it out?

I don't know, do I?

(not OP here) I played the demo and I liked it. Thinking about getting the full game.

You do.
Especially A2

I love it

In that case leave the thread now before the spoilers come flooding in

No

This.

You love it.

A2 legs > 2B butt

I'm on route B so far and I'm loving this game's soundtrack, a lot of the music fits well with establishing the atmosphere in each setting and scenario. I really wish there was more to the Amusement Park like more quests in there, and more of the area you can explore like the castle and the ferris wheel.

fanbase is filled with obnoxious redditors so no

It makes you happy that Platinum has a successful game, but you didn't really like it.

2B is actually darth vader and 9S is general grievous

Adam and Eve are Dante from different timelines

I just started it. It's ok, the combat is dumber than I imagined, what should I buy to make it good? At least it LOOKS amazing..

Also, how do the this cannot continue song in english? I'm curious.

And how long will I play as 2B until the inevitable forced part with 9Shit?

I like it.
Except for the level 99 challenge in the DLC forest area as 9S.
fuck

You thought Route B was slow, but it was good once the story really picked up.

>It's bad because of the fanbase

The Humans are actually lying about the alien invasion thing and you're just taking away the machine's homeland.

This is going to sound silly, but do the mods and nude mods (for PC) improve the gameplay ?

Don't know I played on ps4 but if you're only getting the game because 2B makes your dick hard kill yourself.

Nier threads are the best threads on Sup Forums
Reddit likes everything you like

Switch weapons around mid combo to make it more interesting. The wire and slow is also cool, but you get them pretty late.

Just listen to it: youtube.com/watch?v=N2bdFzLm7Rc
If you mean "how do i listen to it in english", well, you have to play the whole game in english. Not really worth it for a single song. Also Become as gods is better in jap than in english.

Depends on how many sidequests you do, but there are basically 3 playthroughs to see the whole story. 9s is the second one.

youtu.be/l1RM8ECQe5g

I don't know about any mods.
But if you get her clothes damaged god damn her butt is nice.
She's 9S' waifu though. Nobody can claim her.

Was thinking about doing my own thread, butbi guess im gonna post it here.
I just beat it, up to ending E.
It had its share of flaws, such as the ending exposition. It could have used some extra cutscenes, such as 2B and 9S relationship before the game, of a better explanation of the Network desires.

But overall it was an amazing and pretty unique experience. I can safely say this game left the largest mark on me this year out everything i played so far.

I also feel empty inside and lonely because there is no more of it (besides a few short stories i already read), and i also missed all the cool discussion months ago. What do?

Thanks, it's interesting that they actually made it in both language.
Not gonna switch in english for that though of course, of course, especially considering the pretty huge difference between the english script and the nip one.

It's ok, A2 is better.

>Not gonna switch in english for that though of course, of course, especially considering the pretty huge difference between the english script and the nip one.
The english subtitles are the same. Unless you know nip enough to catch on every small change, you are getting the same story.
But automata translation was pretty faithful. The jap voices, however, are much better. I think i like EN Eve the most.

Anyone else wish there was more to the amusement park, like you could explore more of it like the ferris wheel and there were more quests. Some games might have an abandoned or closed amusement park be availible as a level you explore, but I'm hard pressed to think of a game where it has a functional and open amusement park level where there are people in there. It's a whole different atmosphere by having this more lively and whimsical feel to it instead of this lonely and depressing feel. I mean there's even fireworks, and clowns throwing around confetti and it has this song playing.
youtube.com/watch?v=G9rshXMEKsE

Can I claim 9S though?

A2 hips are better.
2B is a better character.

>You can only truly see how good 2B character is by reading side materials because the game has nothing.
Fuck you Taro.

No, he belongs to 2B.
Dont get in the middle of those 2

>Character with no screentime his a worse character than the MC
Gee who would have thought

2B also got very little character development screen time. Hell, her story "twist" was thrown at random at the end of the game, and only makes sense when you read all the side stories.

A2 also had her plenty of sidestory, and still less than 2B in my opnion. Im honestly surprised 2B didnt crack up.

>I also feel empty inside and lonely because there is no more of it
Yeah it is a disturbing game. It's weird and sad and beautiful and surprisingly disturbing.
>besides a few short stories i already read
There were stage plays of it in Japan. Some people translated them or summarized them. Not all of them canon though. I read something about 9S and 21O. It was kind of interesting. 21O cared about him. I wish it were easier to find and better organized. I'd probably be too lazy to read more of it anyway desu.
Also read that the way Taro writes these stories is by starting from the end, then working his way backwards. I think that explains a lot. Also he writes down a lot of details about the characters and their relationships and the organizations in the game, etc, and then really doesn't give a lot of details in the game at all. But you can sort of infer a lot of it and there's a certain consistency to it. But also a lot of inconsistencies.
I read that Taro said in an interview that gameplay or story isn't what matters the most, it's how the game makes you feel. And that's what this game is it's mostly feels. And the soundtrack really does its job.
>What do?
I dunno I just keep on listening to the sound track. Also the Nier and Drakengard sound track. There are some great ones there too but man they really are similar though.
Maybe I'll watch a let's play of those games if I find good ones I don't really feel like playing them now that I've played Automata desu.

And A2 and Anemone are mutual waifus IIUC. It was in some side material. They have a backstory.
And the operators are all of the commander's waifus.
Seriously there are no free waifus for you in this game. This is not a waifu game unlike what some are claiming.

>Unless you know nip enough to catch on every small change, you are getting the same story.

I actually do, and a "W-what?" doesn't convey the same thing as a "Oh great" to me at least. In just a few hour I already noticed tons of such differences between the nip dialogue and subs, subs that make the game feel a bit more corny than it really is. It's just small difference yes, but it does change the tone a little bit.

There's some lines implying the Commander and Jackass were pretty close too

>youtube.com/watch?v=N2bdFzLm7Rc
The only true waifu the commander had was Jackass. The only one she was willing to tell super secret shit, and quite possibly the only person she trusted,

>"Jackass,
>I received a report regarding your behavior from the Resistance camp leader. Even if I choose to ignore the unauthorized "upgrades" you've been performing on your fellow Resistance members, combining two separate androids into a single unit is taking things too far. Just because I'm not there anymore doesn't give you free license to do whatever you please. Pull yourself together ASAP before you wind up getting exiled, you hear?
>As far as things over here go, work at the Bunker has been smooth, for the most part. I figured the role of Commander would mostly consist of stamping documents and the like, but i'm surprised by the amount of miscellaneous tasks I'm expected to perform. I definitely have concerns about the Type-E deployment project, though. Still, all I can do is keep trying my best.
>I truly believe that the work i'm doing here will help carve a path for the future of all androids. So I expect you in turn to do some growing up before the next time we meet, okay?
>White"
>(Transmission deleted due violation of confidentially clauses)

And jackass feeling was mutual
>"She was the most earnest person you've ever met.
Hell, downright stiff in some ways.
And yet, you couldn't find a kinder soul if you tried.
>It's not fair that I live while she had to die.
This world is just so....wrong.
Humans? Machines? Androids?
We're all goddamn worthless.
>Anyway, I imagine I'll be joining you soon enough.
Rest in peace until then, okay?
>Jackass."

Jackass is such a fucking cool character. Completely insane, and yet overachiever

Ops, i fucked up the greentext. Also ignore the video.

Where would I find these side stories? I need more nier shit

This the "2B THICC AF" shit needs to die

There is a whole reddit megathread with nearly all translated side material. Just google it.

My favorites are about 2B and 9S:
>Memory Cage: mintychu.dreamwidth.org/340.html
>Memory Thorn (Sequel to memory Cage): docs.google.com/document/d/148fzzBcSJA_loQc9KkReOImbDXNisEJ98mowLvnHkCE/edit

There is also the 5 screenplays, the 5th being a small alternative ending to Ending E. Essentially the same results, but told differently.
mintychu.dreamwidth.org/1870.html#cutid1

I was pretty fun, but it kept crashing every 20 minutes on my PC, so I refunded it.

Were you using mods? FAR kept fucking my shit up till the creator updated it and it started working magically.

With or without FAR it kept crashing.
I really wanted to play it, but I don't a PS4.

Oh well, the game did had a very serious case of "work on my machine", so i cant help you.
Which GPU you have?

>There is also the 5 screenplays
6 now, Taro added a new for Taiwan concert.
Though it's kinda unnecessary and only further reinforces that N2 was indeed full yandere for 9S.

yeah not 10/10 but it was a wild fucking ride
the last hour or two was beautiful

>Hell, her story "twist" was thrown at random at the end of the game
it's not the game's fault you managed to miss Amnesia
>only makes sense when you read all the side stories
it makes sense if you just fucking use your brain a little and maybe run around the Bunker talking with npcs who hint at 2B and 9S being together on missions long before the game events

1060
Disabling Global illumination on FAR really boosted my FPS. Aside from the crashes the game ran great.

>it's not the game's fault you managed to miss Amnesia
I did this quest and all others. Im not saying i didnt understand it, im saying it didnt really changed 9s and 2b dynamic that much the way it was presented, and was thrown in a rather heavy moment already, no time to let it sink.

While seeing A2 memories, we hear a single fragment of 2b memories: "you are.... but you shall be known as 2b". If, instead, we were shown an entire sequence similar to one of the short stories that moment, it would been better.

Worked fine for me on PC. With a not so great PC. Guess I got lucky. Except sometimes it starts wrong somehow and would be super laggy until I retarded it.
The mouse control when hacking and flying are fucked up though. You really need a controller.

I think nVidia never released drivers to solve the issues. When I upgraded my 470 drivers, I never had a crash

A few months ago, they released a driver that really increased my performance, cant remember the number nor if it helped with crashes.

huh, I didn't know. That's good to hear Squeenix is shit tho for releasing it with such shit performance

Is this game worth buying a PS4 over?

It has a PC port tho.

Is this game worth buying a gaming PC over?

Probably not, but when you get either a pc or a ps4 it should be in the top of your list.
Also, what do you play on?

I've got an Xbox 360, was going to buy either a PS4 or an Xbone

This game made me depressed.

It was alright. Nowhere near as bittersweet of a story as Nier because it's hard to see them as anything other than just robots. Also, it was kind of buggy. I'm mainly just glad Kamiya didn't shove QTEs into this game like he usually does. 7/10 decent game, okay sequel.

'Cause we're gonna shout it loud. Even if our words seem meaningless.

>it's hard to see them as anything other than just robots
THEY'RE MORE HUMAN THAN YOU

Please, dont scream at me, you quoted the wrong person.

>fictional robots are more human than me
Yeah alright, at least I can quote the right poster.

>you quoted the wrong person
FUCK OFF I'M ONLY HUMAN I MAKE MISTAKE

>quotes the wrong person
>types in all caps
>double posts
You're not human, you're just retarded.

Shut up 2b, you arent allowed to post here.

I finished the first 2 playthroughs, just started the one where I'm wearing the armor and I just can't bring myself to get back into it.

Please motivate me to play it again Sup Forums

Thats LITERALLY when the real game starts. Stopping now is like going to a subway but stop eating the sandwich when you are about to hit the chipotle sauce

You get to play someone else a little more in.

>Stopping now is like going to a subway but stop eating the sandwich when you are about to hit the chipotle sauce
That's a good solid metaphor.

The shit that happens to Pascal is the most depressing part of the entire game. That's why I put him out of his misery.

I was already depressed. But now I dont feel like I need a gf anymore since the game made me feel enough feels that it would be redundant. If I made a gf it would never be like what it was like between 2B and 9S what's the point.

I strongly considered it to be better to die with ones memories than life as a shadow of yourself, but the canon ending has him survive.

Honestly, I just stopped caring. I'm not trying to be cynical. I was excited for the game before it came out and I enjoyed the game play enough to carry me through the first 2 playthroughs.

But this story just doesn't resonate with me. I don't understand what themes they're trying to establish, and I don't know what any of the characters motivations are supposed to me. Everyone's behavior seems random to me and most of the stranger dialogue makes no sense to me. Additionally, the inclusion of characters from previous games feels a bit forced to me.

I realize I'm making myself sound stupid/autistic by admitting I didn't "get" this game. But I have played every other game Taro has made and I "got" and enjoyed them all. Something about automata is just...off

They do give you an option to just walk out on him without doing either. I always felt he pressed on and didn't kill himself if you walked.

>60 hours in is where the real game starts

I'm sorry user but that's just plain old bad game design

I just walked away.
I tried to pat him but it wouldn't let me.
I couldn't kill him because I'm a big wuss. I couldn't delete his memory either because that's like killing him. Even though they don't say how much it deletes. Some of his personality remains, but the thing is he might do the same thing all over again. A lot of the machines are trapped in cycles like that. Or they learn but over the course of hundreds of years. Pascal had a nice little village going. It just needs some tweaking with the children. C'mon Pascal just give it another shot. No deleting, you need that data.

Do you know how the story goes? I will agree that i feel the story is slightly less coherent than previous Taro games, but still interesting.
I find that the side quests and even the side material is more amusing.

Also, even though its not a bit plot point (actually its hardly discussed in the game), the third play through gives proper sequel to one important aspect of the original Nier story.

I eventually want to check it out but Black Friday is like 2 months away so maybe I'll just wait

>You can just walk away
FUGG
Now i feel like shit.

I deleted his memories because I wanted the items.

People say this, but if you didn't enjoy at least route A, you're not going to enjoy route C much more. There's not a very huge shift.
>taking 60 hours to finish a 20 hour tops part of the game

Reminder that accepting Adams offer in ending D is literally the worst possible ending.

Honestly it's my favourite game in many years.

>combat is weak
Sure, it's weaker than the "pure" Platinum action games but I still enjoyed it massively and I think it's more fun than most action games. The bosses could've been better but I still enjoyed most fights.

The story, characters and meta elements were wonderfully executed, especially in the third route.

This game was much more than the sum of its parts for me.

It's not really their homeland now is it

got a link?

Plus if you're a long-time Yoko Taro fan the combat goes above and beyond what's usually expected from his work.

I think it did a solid job of building off the first Nier's style and polishing it up.

I actually enjoyed the combat more than some platinum games, specifically metal gear rising. I liked how timing dodges was the main focus while dishing out damage came naturally.

It's implied he kills himself if you walk away, since he doesn't appear in the ending sequence

OK yeah, honestly, the story is a bit of a mess. Sure you can explain it all at the end, but it's a mess.

And the characters are too mysterious. 9S has his memory tampered with. And they don't tell you much about 2B (yet). And they're robots. It's clear that they're capable of human intelligence and emotion (which they tend to avoid) but it's still hard to relate to what drives them. Especially with what Yorha does to them. There are some clear examples that they have some kind of free will but Yorhah still brainwashes them.

It's something I notice from Japanese storytelling. They don't tell you important stuff that the characters you're supposed to relate with know. Really basic stuff about their character and the story. In this way you're more of a stranger who just walked in on some crazy shit than someone really involved with the story. Western storytelling usually isn't like that. We'd consider it bad storytelling when it's pushed this far.

I loved the game and I really wanted to see where it was going and it's fun trying to piece it together (and the ending is pretty intense), but it's mostly the music and the drama that kept me going. Otherwise I probably would have lost interest. It's pretty well done. The game knows how to trigger your logical and emotional centers at the same time. Even if you're in the dark for most of the story. Even after the game there are a lot of unknowns but you realize it didn't really matter.

The game focus a lot on philosophical themes. Especially existentialism. It's not making any clear statements. It's just supposed to make you ponder on the condition of the machines. And of the main characters (who don't consider themselves "machines" somehow). And yeah they are hard to relate with until you have the whole picture.

Route A/B gives you kind of a standard sci-fi story, but with lots of weirdness and obvious hints that everything is wrong. Much more so in route B. Route C is where SHTF.

It really isn't anything ground breaking or new when it comes to the sci fi genre, what with questioning how personal artificial intelligence can get. But I think it's charming in that. It makes you think, and there's a lot of cool shit going on. Not much more I ask from a video game story.

>liked how timing dodges was the main focus while dishing out damage came naturally.
I think thats because the game was designed with a shmup concept: Stay alive, hold the fire button, dont care about aim.

Its pretty hard to see it in genres other than shmups, but it works. Serious Sam comes to mind. Later in the game you really dont even have to aim as much as dodge.

I dont think the game have anything original as far as AI self conscience goes. I also think i missed on those philosophical themes, because nothing really hit a note to me.

If anything, i dont think it was the main theme. Given the arc that happens to the main character 9s, I think it was more a standard story of love, passion and descend into madness. That one nailed it and made me really interested in the characters. There is some pure distilled suffering and struggle into 2b and 9s lives, and i loved to watch it.
I honestly wanted it to be MORE visible in the game though, specially for 2b.

The zaniness of the setting is also great. The side quests were really good.

Yeah I like it. One of the few games I've ever played that has a happy ending for its gays.

>was gonna get it
>find out youre stuck playing the fag for a good portion of it
>and his gameplay is shit
>and cringe weeb romance is a big part of the story

Might pick it up when it's $9.99

This, excellent game and great combat.

The side quests were almost always interesting which was nice. I had 2B and 9S's real "purposes" spoiled for me before I staryed B route, and honestly, I think I enjoyed the story more than I would've if I hadn't known. Put every line into an entirely new perspective.
