3D is definitely a gimmick, the n2ds build quality is pretty shit
It's a budget model for people who don't have the money to buy the quality system
If you don't mind that, or are hurting for cash, pick the n2ds, it plays all the same games and such
But if you plan on using it a lot and want to make sure it lasts, get the n3ds, it's worth the extra $50

2ds is the best choice for the money, but it has the fewest features.
new 3ds has every feature you could want. "but what about being XL?", it IS XL. just not AS XL. if you can get this for 150$ or less youre gold. but they stopped manufacturing them

new 3ds xl is not worth the extra 50 bucks from the new 3ds. but people will pay it, so they stopped making the normal one.
new 2ds xl lacks 3d. but it also includes a shit stylus and lower-quality plastic. its speakers are also worse than the 3dses. people think its curviness is comfy though

if you can get them real cheap and can guarantee they work well the OG 3ds/3dsxl are still fine. the differences are pretty much nothing outside of new3ds exclusives and any musou game. do not play a musou game on an OG 3ds/xl/2ds
