What was the Ubuntu dev thinking with that redone UI?

Ubuntu is african word for "I cannot configure Debian".
>memecoins
You only have to say "ugh"? What OS do you use?
>doesn't know how to switch DE
It's crazy how i bought one towards the end of May for £100 cheaper than it is now.
Feelsgoodman
>measured in "relative performance"
What kind of units are those?
>tfw still using gtx 670
Still runs everything at mid-high settings
Got my gtx 1080 ti on release really cheap.
I'm surprised how good the gpu is. The only problem is that 4k isn't always a smooth 60 fps. If you can wait or only have 1080p just skip the 1080ti and wait for the 1180ti.
I still don't get people who buy a non ti card or a "titan". It is cheaper to just buy two 1080ti and you will have more fps than with a titan
I still have a 4770k, is it worth falling for the skylake meme yet?
I play DCS and IL2BoS
Oh come on. I use Ubuntu exclusively, and even I can't stand the default theme. The first thing you should do after a fresh install is change the ugly defaults.

>mad that people use windows
so this is autism... wow
As long as you dont have a minimum res limit.
Max kek
How about Nvidia releases the 1100-series so I can finally upgrade my whole PC?
i'm good
>Anno Dommini M*2+XX-III

It has the looks and it has the tools.
Gimme a screenshot
>1024x768
Can you even afford a computer?
Not upgrading till volta
...
my mointor is 4k. just hadnt installed drivers yet
Thoughts on opensuse?
Well looks like my 980ti is obsolete
your 980ti is still fine, it's about on par with the 1070. wait for volta or navi before you upgrade
>need mobo, CPU, GPU, RAM, and assorted (CPU cooler etc)
>look up how much it would cost
>it's almost 50% more expensive than it was 3 years ago for the same tier of stuff
FUCK MOBILENIGGERS EATING UP ALL THE RAM. BAN THEM HIROSHIMOOT FUCK
How does phones eating ram and the price of these products relate?
read your email
RAM prices have been hiking because of the mobile device boom eating it up and various shortages (e.g. factory getting hit by lightning, flooding, or some other shit).
>Phones now have large amounts of RAM
>Lots of demand for RAM now
>manufacturers can't keep up
>price goes up
Fake and gay, I was hitting
ryzen 5 + 1060 costs less than 500 dollars together
>1070 beating 980 ti by that much
That's just a straight out lie.

>The new Volta SM is 50% more energy efficient than the previous generation Pascal design, enabling major boosts in FP32 and FP64 performance in the same power envelope.
Wait for Nvidia Volta GV102 GTX 2080 Ti
There's nothing on the x axis.
It could very well be "eggs you can cook per hour on the GPU"
I wasn’t being serious. I can still play everything I want maxed out at 1440p so I don’t see any reason to upgrade yet.
Nice shop faggot
The numbers, user.
What do they mean?
Looks like some Chinese Android knockoff, desu. It's weird that you can find so many beautiful environments is /r/unixporn or the average Sup Forums screenfetch thread, yet no distro ships anything nice looking by default.
My regular 980 still plays everything at least on High settings.
There's no reason to get a new card for at least two more generations.
Also, this is now a Linux ricing thread
It's real user. Your distro don't have to look like ass.
It's clearly based on the Mac OS and that was the goal. Elementary is basically Ubuntu stripped to it's basic features so you can add only what interest you.
When do new Nvidia cards come out? I went with the 1070 this time but I'm gonna go for the big 1180 or 1180 TI next time.
who spends any time on their desktop that they would feel the need to be this autistic?
>memecoins
Started with .2
Damn, a 1060 is nearly a 980Ti. Though I'm not sure if I should judge this chart. I've just been waiting to upgrade my 770 already.
In reality a 1070 is a 980ti
I have a 860m which i've been using since 2012. No problems, could play anything I wanted for 5 years. But recently I started to get a liking at Total War: Warhammer and I cant get a good performance from that game wih my card. I can get 40fps in a 20v20 battle in the lowest settings. If I could get at least 60 fps I would continue to use my card until it dies but I feel like this is a time for me to upgrad.
Me too. There any infos on when the new 80 going to release ?
>new system
>instead of installing drivers better shitpost on Sup Forums
Really makes you think
fucking nvidia "charts"
I spend 8 hours a day just working (programmer). Then about 2 hours a day playing vidya, and maybe 2 hours shitposting/facebook/youtube. I bet most people here spend way more time on the last two. Who here doesn't spend a significant amount of time on their desktop?
>installed Debian on my new laptop
>latest version didn't have updated atheros support so no wi-fi
>installed Ubuntu instead and it just werks
Debian is great if you're using old hardware, but if you're trying to keep up to date it's garbage.
I love Nvidia charts because they bring out all the Americans and highschool dropouts who can't handle any graph that isn't linear.
What command is this i see that gives your specs with some custom image?
>(((4K)))
Remember to not fall for this diminishing returns meme resolution, stay at 1920x1080 and your shit will stay relevant for much longer
Usually screenfetch or neofetch
like this?
>people on the video game board use the OS that is the easiest to play video games with
Linux mint is better than ubuntu anyway.
>the OS that is the easiest to play video games with
You rang?
Is there any real point to buying one? The benchmarks compared to the normal 1080 only seem marginally better.
This is an TempleOS board, please behave
It's an enthusiast grade GPU for few people who want it and can afford it. None of enthusiast GPUs have exceptionally high perfomance per dollar ratio and for a reason
everytime
nothing wrong with Ubuntu's default DE
I'm running KDE and it's shit
KDE is now the best DE out there ( unless you are operating on a old hardware that can't handle it ). That's a fact. Now that we got this out of the way, recommend me some games I can play on linux installed on x240. My recommendation would be ppsspp - works beautifully.
They all use NAND flash and many manufacturers decided to switch from 2D NAND to 3D NAND. The problem is that manufacturing problems and low yields mean there is a large shortage right at the time of a mobile device boom. The knock on effect is prices for SSDs and RAM jumping by 40%.
all these games have native linux versions:
Dying light
Metro redox
Cities skylines
lord of the rings mordor
does that thing have a penis
No and no to next year as well. Ask again two years from now.
>1060
>faster than a 980
Is there anyone left who doesn't realize how real the gimping is
It's not really faster in real life applications, but it's close
Also that's not what gimping means
TF2
Factorio
Xcom2
Rimworld
Dota2
CS:GO
Torchlight
Stardew Valley
Don't forget M&B:Warband

Smartphones, tablets, all those other mobile toys like smartwatches and smarthome toasters with a computer on board need RAM. There is high global demand from many business sectors and due to several accidents and disasters over the last years which caused destruction of assembly lines production capacity is low. This shortage caused prices to double over roughly one year and a few days ago news broke that analysts suspect they might rise another 40% until the end of the year. It's an awful time to buy anything that has memory chips on board, be it RAM itself, GPUs or any smart device as prices are very high and will be for a while. It won't be until mid-late 2018 that new manufacturing plants go live and begin to churn out large batches of memory chips to drive prices down, assuming demand doesn't magically increase over the course of the year, which is not unlikely, given how many manufacturers try to build computers into mundane shit to go with the latest fad of "smart" everything. But hey, at least you will be able to call your toaster a nigger and it will beep to acknowledge that you referred to it before uploading the conversation to a server from the manufacturer to "improve the service". What a great time to be alive!
...
it's Elementary OS
>Happines
Retard.
>New thing is better than old thing
Who knew
Thankfully there are no must-play games this generation. The industry is in a state where it seems to be getting ready to fall in on itself.
I got two from Amazon when one got lost during shipping and showed up two weeks later. They sent out the second one for free.
We MAY get 10nm ice lake in 2h 2018. 8c/16th desktop i9700k.
>have GTX770
>play BF1 on 60fps on medium settings and max AA
>new update for BF1 comes out
>cool.jpg
>try to start the game after updating
>error
>you need to install the newest nvidia drivers
>install drivers
>now my game runs at 40-50 fps max
so tell me the truth lads, is it true that nvidia gimps older cards with new drivers so that you need to buy a new gpu? what the fuck?
Do you have windows 10 and/or get a forced upgrade to the anniversary/fall/creators update? Every major windows 10 update this year has fucked gaming.
im still on windows 7
the only thing that changed are the fucking drivers
There are occasional fuck ups by Nvidia, but the general trend is that drivers improve perfomance, it just start to stagnate after a while. You can find plenty of evidence of people trying different drivers, and I've done it myself, there's no significant improvement or deterioration of perfomance between different drivers once you start to stagnate.
did you return the 2nd when it finally showed up?

They don't (aside from occasional bugs). However game developers know they have new hardware to play with and don't bother optimizing their shit, they also seem to not have anyone hired to regression test their new patches (check old vs new performance, find out why, and fix it).
No, this shit happens all the time when it's sent through usps. Last time it happened they told me to keep the extras. I just assumed the same this time around. Also got an extra Samsung 960 pro as it was sent together.
