Make a generic dungeon crawler

>make a generic dungeon crawler
>give it a bland, anime artstyle with lots of pedobait
>only "unique" feature is that you can draw your own maps, which people have been doing since the 80s
>weebs eat it up

Go kill abyssal god and then tell me that etrian odyssey is generic

The battle system is pretty interesting. Everyone ends up winning/losing fights different ways and it's fun to talk to people about how they defeated a certain boss or group of enemies.

ya play a real dungeon crawler like darkest dungeon

>>only "unique" feature is that you can draw your own maps, which people have been doing since the 80s
Considering how nowadays is all quest markers and automaps and fast travel you can bet your ass is revolutionary (now). Heck, even putting a note on the map would probably blow your average ""gamer""'s mind

I'm amazed OP didn't spit the "have to grind" shit out as well.

Since when are the map making tools built into the game itself? Since when could you actually simulate putting pen to graph paper without actually having a pen and graph paper? Not to mention the map is interactive and shows where you are on it at all times even while editting. Has any other series actually done this, especially as well as Etrian Odyssey thanks to the ever present second touch screen of the DS?

>since the 80s
Yes, but it does it the smoothest out of any modern one without paper.
Sure I had fun with SitD back then with some graph paper my teacher gave me at school and made my own way through that grindy little fucker, but there's something to be said for a game that emulates that experience without the need for physical paper but with a very similar feeling.

I donæt know of any. Most of the other games only got a automap function that shows you where you are (and stuff like walls, things of interest etc)

>when you wanna make your party but the demo doesn't have the DLC portraits

I hate this

Honestly the only examples I can think of are Ultima Underworlds.

Fucking Zelda did it m8

>literally revived the genre
>paved the way for shitloads of japanese dungeon crawlers

based

EO is probably one of the least weeb dungeon crawlers out right now

>make a generic dungeon crawler
>make status ailments work on bosses
>weebs eat it up

>make status ailments work on bosses
That just means weebs have good taste in games

If I want to play this, which is the best one?

There are quite some on the vita. Never played any of them though.

I haven't gotten to it yet but 3 gets the most praise I think

untold 2

>make status ailment work om bosses

why fucking give me status if they only work on mobs? EO gets bonus point for not only having status but two different kinds of with binds and every skill is tied to a body part friend and foe.

>first time playing?

4 or Untold 2. Avoid Untold 1 like the plague.

>best in series?

arguably 3.

It's one of the most effective modernizations of Wizardry to date. And the mapping function is a very natural use of the DS touchscreen.

>make the best dungeon crawlers that ever existed
>perfect the systems that have been around since the 80s
>fans buy it up, then filthy weab secondaries latch on and EO becomes mainstream
Feels good having played since the original. Too bad all the copycat dungeon crawlers that are still popping up in it's wake are all trashy cheap knockoffs looking to make a quick buck.

The fact of the matter is, the demos for EO games are pretty awesome. They basically give us the first 5 hours free and let us transfer. I'm grinding every class up to 10 to experiment but so far there are some very fun ones. Seems like a good dungeon crawler.

Dude, if you wanna start an Etrian Odyssey V thread, just do it. No need to be a dick about it.

The front/back row with an uneven party of 5 is a good and still relatively unique system by itself.
Beyond that the classes and skills and available options when it comes to building and crafting teams are all great too.

Combine this with good dungeon design and you've got yourself some pretty good to great RPGs.

You forgot this is Sup Forums, you can't make a videogame thread without being controversial
>i like game, can we talk about it? 404 with 3 replies, 2 of wich from the OP trying to bump the thread
>this game is shit and those who bought it are retards/weebs/redditors/sjws/degenerates, let's laugh at them 500 replies and 300 images omitted click here to view

There's also the fact that all the status\bind\buff\debuff systems tie into each other and play together so nicely and are important that it, plus very strong synergy and other gimmicks just make EO battle system one of the most solid turn-based battle systems i've seen. I've played a lot of dungeoc crawlers on PC and other platforms, and not many come close.

>Combine this with good dungeon design
>dismissing music
Unacceptable

EO threads never went that way, especially around release.
It's only MH threads who adopted that stupid shit recently, leave it to them

EO threads are typically high quality save for the occasional arguments about Untolds.

What are those EOV parties, Sup Forums?

Masurao/Pugilist
Necromancer/Botanist/Warlock

I generally try to bind everything and set up buffs for the frontline while the necromancer plays defense/poison mode. Botanist just sits back and heals. So far I've had little difficulty with anything except the centipedes, just because I can't hit them with poison.
