Why is this game so good. How come there are not more games like it? Dark Souls hack and roll combat is nothing compared to this really. People should stop making DaS clones and try making games with combat like this.
Why is this game so good. How come there are not more games like it...
Dragon's Dogma Online.
Only Capcom has the talent to make good animations and mix it with fun combat.
not for filthy gaijin
That would actually take talent and good animators DaS combat is easy because its inherently shitty and devs like it because it allows them to hid behind the "hurr git gud" excuse while putting in minimal effort.
Oh hey, another Dragons dogma thred... Why there is no VG thread? Are these too slow for that board or something?
>People should stop making DaS clones and try making games with combat like this.
While combat is bae the stats and progression is sheit. Why couldn't they make each vocation has it's own stats that got multiplied by the level instead or whatever? Or the sucky items that just become obsolete because hur dur BBI, they're masterworks all you can't go wrong(TM). Or BBI monster that got shitload of flat damage reduction that would make any low tier weapon automatically shit no matter how well you use them.
At least the main campaign is great and doesn't suffer from that.
There's nothing left to talk aside from post "arisen & pawns" or wishful thinking of DD2 that will never come.
Well, I dunno. I have a few questions. Like, what the best pawn vocation, what the best party, what is the most worthvile archmagick infused weapon to have and which debilitation that they inflict is best etc.
>Whatever you want.
>Whatever you want.
>Infused weapons are garbage.
>Every debilitation sucks except for Torpor.
>Whatever you want
Oh come on. Surely there is some interesting combinations? There is so many skills, dangit, and how they can interact with pawns. Like I dunno, fulmation and striders or whatever.
>Infused weapons are garbage.
For damage output, maybe. They are good for debilitations though. But since many monster just have immunities to like most of them... That just plain suck.
>Every debilitation sucks except for Torpor.
Healing from light enchant - sure. That shit doesn't even heal past unrecoverable health and the heal itself is weak.
Crits from dark - arguably quite alright.
Burning from fire - yeah, kinda weak as it does not scale with monster health.
Poison - even worse the burning but both can add interesting behaviors on some monsters like goblins.
Freezing from ice - actually quite great, even better then torpor because it can stop monsters completely AND provide double damage AND can insta kill on shatter. When monster doesn't have immunity to it which is most of the cases, especially on large monsters.
Stun from lightning - good for knocking down monsters. When they are not immune to it.
Covered in oil from aneled weps - double damage for fire attacks, although it probably not as usefull unless you have spellcasters with fire spells in the party.
And there is a few others like turn to stone or blindness, but didn't get to use it all that much.
The sucky part is that it is hard to even discuss them since you pretty much have to memorise what monsters can be even affected by what, and mid game it's pretty much trial and error.
So, are there really no other games with combat like this? Excluding DDO.
>or wishful thinking of DD2 that will never come.
Hideaki Itsuno's next game is either DD2, DMC5, or Deep Down, so I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss a sequel.
monster hunter is the closest
Ys VIII maybe since both game has very silky & fast combat system, although you can't create your own character.
PSO2 has very fun combat as well, although it's online and JP only but there's EN patch that literally updated every single time the game received update.
Monster Hunter would be a good alternative as well, but game flow would be entirely different and gameplay in general is slightly more slower.
Thanks anons
I never played this videa.
Should i give it a try? At PC.
Dragons Dogma is one of the most boring pieces of shit I've ever played, you might as well just play an MMO.
sure
the combat isnt really that good
i love the game and it has some cool stuff like being able to climb the big monsters, huge spells like maelstrom and so on
but the melee combat is mostly just dashing through the enemy again and again or standing there charging your big dick swing
What would you consider good combat?
Yeah and take an English class online while you're at it.
Itsuno tried to make his dream RPG and took lots of ideas from older games that he loved back then. DD's stat progression was actually pretty popular in older J- and CRPGs (Gothic for instance.)
They're pretty much road blocks that are meant to tell the player that you're not supposed to be here yet. That's especially true for BBI. It was planned as an expansion for the main game and as such designed in a way that you're basically supposed to grind it in three parts and run away from bigger enemies until you have the levels/gear to beat them and progress further.
It's not a perfect system, but I actually like it more than level scaling enemies and loot for that matter.
I have countless replays of dark souls games and only beaten dark arisen once, wanna know why?
One doesn't bore the fuck out of me exploring the world.
dumb anime poster
I'm the exact opposite, I've never beat a dark souls game because i just get too bored of them. I only came close for dark souls 1, because that one is the most fun. The jolly cooperation was fun but once I beat the lava place I just lost interest and never finished the game.
It doesn't really have replay value though, you can't even make multiple characters without saving to a USB, you just do everything with one character, I literally only did NG+ for the trophies.
Doing BBI runs is more fun than DS.
