7/10

Im not meming. While i think this game is mostly good and im glad that samus is back it does have a few short comings.
enemy varity
visual varity
weak soundtrack
levels that go on to long as well as being to linear
I think some of the Primeesque puzzle dont necessarily work in 2d style metroid games. It makes traversal kind of a chore from time to time.
Screw attack bounces off enemies
The controls lead to cramping to easily

I think if the game had better original music and more enemy variety it would bump it possibly bump it up to a 9/10 but as is, it is adequate. I am very thankful though that nintendo gave us a real metroid game.

ok

come on guys give me your thoughts and discussions.

You have a shit opinion, you're spacing is fucking terrible, and you're probably a stupid faggot too.
2/10 OP, Fuck off.

I just stopped playing after about an hour and a half because my thumb hurts.

Dang 3DS.

I completely agree OP. The game is a nice little title, it's on par with, if not better than, Zero Mission and Fusion. however, what you bring up makes it fall short of Prime and Super, and it doesn't match up to AM2R. Otherwise it's still a worthwhile purchase.

>weak soundtrack
That's putting it mildly. It's even worse than Metroid II's soundtrack from what I've played.

A fair opinion, I agree for the most part

enemy variety
While I agree that there's way too many fucking bats, most 2D Metroid games don't really have spectacular enemy variety and I'd say this game is about par for the course in that regard. Reskins of harder enemy versions are a common occurrence in the Metroid series so it didn't really bother me.

visual variety
Eh I disagree I think the backgrounds look great especially at times where you can see stuff happening in the background like local fauana or other weird creatures

weak soundtrack
Don't really agree with this either. This is a Metroid 2 remake and that game tried to go for a more atmospheric sound design which I think this game emulated really well, while also ramping up the music when it needs to such as boss fights.

levels that go on to long as well as being to linear

Again this is a Metroid 2 remake and linearity isn't inherently bad.

I think some of the Primeesque puzzle dont necessarily work in 2d style metroid games. It makes traversal kind of a chore from time to time.

Eh I didn't really mind it. I like puzzles that make you take advantage of your full arsenal.

Screw attack bounces off enemies

If you use lightening armor it doesn't really matter.

The controls lead to cramping to easily

I personally didn't have a problem but I can see why others would.

Anyway I really enjoyed the game.

>walk into superheated room
>magmoor theme plays
It's something.

Thanks for giving us the correct opinions, marketer san

I replied super, zm, and fusion before this one came out. Samus returns really is lacking compared to the other games in enemy variety. Especially compared to super and fusion.

>OP literally says "come on guys give me your thoughts and discussions."
>I give him my thoughts
>"M-MARKETER, S-SHILL! REEEE"

Seriously fuck you.

>I think some of the Primeesque puzzle dont necessarily work in 2d style metroid games
What do you mean?

>dismiss every single point with "no you're wrong"
>do it in a manner that makes it obvious you aren't a regular Sup Forums user
Fuck off shill

Hello? I did it in a respectful manner and I even agreed with him on somethings.
Fuck off retard.

The game is sprinkled with alot of micro puzzle obstacles, such as aeon morph ball, and grapple beam puzzles. These puzzle elements fit into the design philosophies of the metroid prime games more than they do in the other 2d games. In my opinion I dont think they work to the games benefit but i concede that that is a subjective opinion that others may disagree with.

free aiming and the parry killed a lot of the space control of the gameplay. There are way more opportunities to get damage in and it doesn't feel like it makes the gameplay better. You can play a lot more safely than in other games.

There's like 20 enemies in Super not including reskins and I think there's around 15 in Samus Returns not including reskins so it's really not that big a difference.

Pretty much agree. Noticed my hand definitely cramped up more than normal.

By the end of it was real tired of the same enemy re-skined for the 3rd time. Also wish that they didn't emphasize the parry as much as it did

>this game is about par for the course in that regard
>I disagree I think the backgrounds look great
>that game tried to go for a more atmospheric sound design which I think this game emulated really well, while also ramping up the music when it needs to
>linearity isn't inherently bad
>I like puzzles that make you take advantage of your full arsenal.
>If you use lightening armor it doesn't really matter.
>I personally didn't have a problem but I can see why others would.

Sorry, I spoke too broadly. You dismissed some of his points with "no you're wrong", and others with "it works for me :)".

Ironically enough, marketers like you make me not want to even touch the game again. I want to talk about the game with human beings, not third-worlders.

It's ok when Super reskins the same enemy 3x though.

This image is missing alot of enemies and creatures. Ignoring that, Samus Returns only has 6 or 7(outside of bosses and metroids) enemies in the whole game.

28 enemies in that image, and it's still missing a lot. Kihunters, space pirates, mini Kraids, Coverns, Alcoons, Funes, Mochtroids, Metroids, the list goes on.

Nintendo needs to hire better marketers. This shit is pathetic.

Prime did atmospheric correct. If it's not catchy, its shit and Samus Returns music is shit (other than the music ripped from prime) Its nonexistent and frustrating. Lots wrong with this game outside of music too.

It definitely has more than that. Unless you're dismissing the robotic enemies for what reason.

>visual variety
>soundtrack
>long levels
>Prime puzzles
Those are all good things, OP.

once you get to level three when they introduce these things, You never see a new enemy encounter ever again.

>playing Samus Returns while watching a TV show
>hear something weird
>mute the TV, turn my 3DS up
>the area I'm in actually has music
Granted, it was only a few notes that played every so often, but still.

>detonate a bomb from a tile away
>after the explosion graphic ends, I'm propelled straight up into the air
I think you meant 10/10 OP

Nintendo is only capable of making 7/10 games nowadays. Impressive to people who barely touch the surface of their media. because with nintendo games there's nothing UNDER the surface. BOTW is a big empty map of nothing that gets wildly overblown as the most special wonderful magical journey. It's Skyrim but instead of real quests, or enemy variety, you have a set pool of things you are guaranteed to find no matter where you go.

Samus Returns is shallow because of Scan Pulse removing all tension or intrigue for finding secrets. everyone can get 100% on blind playthrough in like 10 hours because of it. Enemies do more damage because the game fully expects you to do a counter for EVERY. SINGLE. ENEMY. They are ALL placed strategically in such a way that they are basically waiting for Samus to show up and counter their attack. As opposed to old Metroid games where you were just running past weird bugs and local animals minding their own business.

Varia Suit looks okay, Zero Suit is an improvement, although Sakamoto god bless his rotted brain, decided it would be a great idea to stick big wedges onto her feet. It's like,

>"well high heels would be too impractical looking, but i want to force her to wear heels anyway-- i'll just force her feet to sit in these uncomfortable looking wedge chunks in a high heel position"

I'm glad the AM2R creator got a job with the Ori devs, it's absolutely nintendo's loss not hiring him. He knows Metroid, Sakamoto and MercurySteam do not. This game looks more impressive to everyone because the last 2D Metroid game was Other M which was so abysmal that I think any other studio's attempt would look like a masterpiece in comparison.

only played like 20 minutes of this because I'm still all over Original Sin 2 but here are my early impressions

>Wall jumping is ruined.
>I don't understand why they forced this L-button shit. I'm using the circle pad but I can only aim in 8 directions while running. For some reason I have to hold L if I want to use the circle pad like a circle pad. They could have let me have 360 aiming all the time, or let me use the D pad for movement and only use the circle pad to aim while holding L. Seems like they picked the worst option of the 3 ways it could have been done.
>the melee parry mechanic was a mistake

feels more like a really good "Metroid-inspired" game than a Metroid game

nice opinion, but you know, it's an opinion

the consensus is around 9/10

shhh did you forget where we are?

Agree for most of this. The control cramping is the 3DS's fault though in my opinion. I can't play the game for more than a few hours when I'm morphballing in midair and such.

This game is actually way better than I was expecting though, and I had a lot of fun, so I'm happy even though it is flawed. I think 7/10 or so is quite fair.
