Fun what if

If a PS1 classic was made, and only 20 games were to be put on it. Keep in mind this has to appeal to the casual crowd who had a PS1 when they were young but don't have it anymore and don't know how emulators work or what a ROM is. Big hits would be best choice. What games would you choose? I'll start.

Tomb Raider
Twisted Metal 2
Resident Evil
Metal Gear Solid
Castlevania SotN
Crash Bandicoot 2
Crash Team Racing
Spyro
Final Fantasy 7
Ace Combat 2
Tekken 3
Bust A Move 4
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
Gran Turismo
King of Fighters 98
Suikoden 2
Metal Slug X (jpn ver. with blood)
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Grand Theft Auto 2
LSD Dream Emulator (I know not a hit, but it's just too out there not to, gotta throw at least one curveball in the mix.)

What would you remove and what would you replace it with?

Needs Abe's Oddysee, Ridge Racer and Wipeout

Replace LSD with Klonoa.

I'd put Grandia somewhere.

Actually a revision I'd make to the list:

Get rid of MK Trilogy

Replace with PaRappa the Rapper

only nintendo can do it since most of their games are first party
a sony one would be a legal headache like the world has never seen

NES mini has a fair amount of third-party software.

Oh how'd I forget oddworld?!?!

JJBA: Heritage For The Future

Dino Crisis 2

Can we cheat and have the Net Yaroze collection count as 1 game?

Yeah, replace GTA2 with Abe's Oddysee

My dude those are some garbage picks.

>PS1 version of GTA2
>bothering with cut-back console ports of arcade games at all
>le quirky walking sim
>no syphon filter, no ape motherfucking escape, no wipeout, no RRT4, no medievil, no medal of honor, no megaman legends, no silent hill but fucking KoF98 made it in

His keyboard was "most". They still had to play ball with what those companies gave them too. Meanwhile the PSX is almost a legal deal per gans.

a flawed concept because there aren't enough normie ps1 games worth paying $80 for. and the japanese version would have an exclusive and infinitely superior selection of games

Armored Core and Final Fantasy Tactics, without a doubt

Legal deal per game, idk how I typed that

Replace Bust A Move 4 with Bust A Groove 2

What are some good PS1 games that aren't going to be on a best of list?

Porshe Challenge

...

Legend of Legaia
Brigandine
Azure Dreams

Do the games in these "mini" consoles increase resolution or framerate? Or are they exactly the same?

omega boost
castlevania chronicles

...

Both these are great picks. It's too bad they weren't more popular. 10/10 comment.

I don't know how universal this opinion is but I remember being completely blown away by V-Rally.

I have a very clear memory of playing that game for the first time as a child. Up until that point I had been playing 2D platformers on the Mega Drive. I went to my uncle's house one day and he had a Playstation set up. V-Rally blew my mind. Previously I had only considered games to be like books or TV shows; media that put you into a fictional world. V-Rally made me realize that games could also be simulations of stuff that you'll never do in real life (in this case flip a Peugeut Sport over on an Australian rally track).

I don't know if the game is actually considered good by most people or if my memory is completely anecdotal and I only love the game because it was the first Playstation game I played.

I know the licensing costs to make this thing happen would probably not be financially reasonable, this is just meant to be a what if scenario.

So replace KoF 98 with Ape Ecape.

While I agree RRT4 is great, there's already 2 racing games on here, and I'd say CTR and GT1 are the better racers.

1. Crash Bandicoot 1
2. Crash Bandicoot 2
3. Crash Bandicoot 3
4. Final Fantasy VII
5. Ape Escape
6. Spyro
7. Castlevania SotN
8. Ridge Racer
9. Parappa the Rapper
10. Metal Gear Solid
11.

I'm a Nintendofag. I honestly can't think of 20 games that would be in a PS1 Classic. I could pad it out with obscure shit, but I'm sure such a console would only have Greatest Hits

The nostalgia factor for the PS1 is roughly about the same as the genesis/megadrive. PS1, or PSX as we use to call it, just isn’t the same as NES or especially SNES in that regard. When GameStop was funcoland, the granny section was always packed and diverse in terms of variety but the SNES games were a tiny library of usually shit games. And now many SNES games have tremendous value. There is just something about it.

A mini PSX would sell about as well as those mini 2600 and Genesis consoles do. Bed Bath shelves packed with them

>MGS
>all of the crash games, 4
>FF7
>FF8
>Silent Hill
>Soul Reaver
>GT2

10 is enough

I would put all four disks of Legend of Dragoon on it as it would remove the need for disk swapping. Ideally they would completely remake the game though.

>Azure Dreams
Good taste, I'm one of the few who like the GBC version better but regardless both versions of the game is great in their own right.

I dunno about that, I think I could be an age group thing with the perception of the games on the respective consoles. NES is before my time so I don't have nostalgia for the games on it and didn't really care much for them. I was young during the SNES and Genesis era and can see that SNES games are universally held in higher regards as compared to PS1s library. But I remember when PS1 came out it really blew my friends and I away, a lot of really iconic titles were released on it that really took games to the next level (pun wasn't intended). My friends all still say SNES has their favorite library of games. But PS1 library is always right behind it. I personally liked the PS1 a bit more than SNES. Although I admit that could be nostalgia and I didn't have some the highest regarded SNES games growing up like LoZLttP or FF6.

As for the PSX vs PS1 thing. Yeah I remember before the PS1 came out we called it PSX because that's what the magazines were calling it. But once it was released and there was no X on the box we just called it the PlayStation (at my school anyway).

Can't just load it up with rpgs, need some variety in there. Not everyone is into rpgs. Remember this has to sell to casuals.

Castlevania SotN
Metal Gear Solid
Resident Evil 2
Mega Man X4
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2
Tomb Raider 2
Final Fantasy Tactics
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
Crash Bandicoot 2
Parappa the Rapper
Mr. Driller
Tekken 3
Twisted Metal 3
Soulblade
Spider-Man
Breath of Fire 3
CTR Crash Team Racing
Gran Turismo 2
Silent Hill
Ape Escape
Spyro the Dragon

I think that's a pretty rock solid list. Though personally I'd like to squeeze Mega Man Legends in there somewhere too.

>Gran Turismo
Correct.

>Soul reaver
My nigger

...

just replace everything there with all the demo discs in succession
if you want to go for maximum nostalgia bait
