Why even have physical media? Have a pcie device and go with digital download
Bentley Bell
To elaborate,
Sega has already done something like this 20 years ago and Sega made some decent profit with it.
That would be nice too but Sony also wants to sell BDs.
Anthony Jackson
Or just... i don't know? Port the game to pc?
Easton Martinez
>An optical drive with its own GPU, OS and CPU capable of running console games in PC.
So, a console?
Just how dumb are you? What's even the point of using a PC as a power draw?
Kill yourself for making this dumb thread, retard.
Eli Reyes
Sony has an OS and a media format to sell.
This is the compromise.
Bentley Wood
wait what? like a mini pc? you expect to power that with like a 12v rail and what a free pcie slot? and how will you access the operating system? or better yet, how do you expect to fit the needed components of a modern console in a cd drive? you'll need the same architecture to run the same games.
they're better off using some super locked down drm emulator if they were going to do this. far less r&d and risk.
Wyatt Ward
>PCs win How is that a win? You're basically saying that all a pc is good for is being a screen.
Christian Rivera
no they have specialized hardware and games to play them on. the "os" does little more than spin up a game and provide an overlay for menu management. the kernel is where the money is.
Kevin Hughes
>Optical Drive >Own GPU >Own CPU >Own OS >Capable of running games in PC What? the only things what you describes misses is a MOBO, which will be required if it already has its own CPU, GPU and OS so it has to be in anyway, a power supply, and RAM. RAM is cheap and the space required for the rest of the components you listed will make it so there's room for it too, so let's just include that too. SO what wil be the PC used for? Power, and nothing else...good job man, you made a console that's identical to what we already have except with no power supply, amazing!
Sebastian Flores
OP clearly has no idea how computers work Or consoles Or anything more complicated than a fridge, really
Matthew Ortiz
how do fridges work
Joshua Smith
That completely defeats the purpose of having the PC there, might as well just hook up the console to your monitor
That didn't play actual Saturn games it used quads in a handful of compatible PC games, most if not all of which were ports from the Saturn
Cameron Cox
>both current major console are basically x86 based PCs >future gen; skip any form of fixed console hardware >Sell the OS installable on any PC for less than $100, allowing you to play their current and past exclusives as well use their respective accessories >compete on exclusives, quality of online service, accessories and performance >performance and visual dependent on PC hardware >specific contracted vendors sell cheap pre-builts with the OS pre-installed for those who can't be bothered to build a PC
with the xbone exclusive library being as shitty as it is now compared to last gen, and W10 telemetry being a total dick, MS re-purposing the xbox brand as a primarily gaming OS with less telemetry than W10 and striking a deal with Steam as the main online video game provider may save the brand and win me over.
but sadly, i doubt this'll ever happen unless UWP fails as hard as GFWL.
Cameron Smith
>An optical drive with its own GPU, OS and CPU capable of running console games in PC. so a console christ you are retarded
Bentley Bailey
Antifreeze and liquid coolant is how my lawyer explained it to me
Brandon Morgan
Optical drives become hot fast. CPUs and GPUs become hot fast. Packaging all of that together in a tight frame is asking for a meltdown.
Oliver Martin
I seriously hope you didn't actually think this out on your own and are just trolling us.
Jose Watson
>optical drive are you serious, i had no idea consolebabs were this retarded and ignorant of SSDs why would I buy a massive downgrade you drooling cock gobbling faggot
Easton Rodriguez
>Sega has already done something like this 20 years ago and Sega made some decent profit with it. This comparison is stupid and I'll tell you why. If you take any console of that time up to the PS2 and GCN and remove the case, all of them can easily fit in your hand, because all of them are made of a single board with CPU, GPU and RAM on it, so it's easy as fuck to shrink them a bit and fit them inside a PC as if they were just another card. Nowadays that's the size of just the custom GPU in modern consoles, which also have their separate MOBOs.
Someone tried to squeeze everything into a single board, and they were successful...too bad the end result is the super underpowered Switch you fucking idiot
Hudson Thompson
So you want.... a 150 bucks PC
Kayden Gomez
lmao way to miss why OP's was retarded you idiot
Oliver Roberts
>An optical drive with its own GPU, OS and CPu So it's a fucking console?
Hunter Russell
they lose more money than selling the console itself which is a big no-no to a huge company like sony
same goes for ms and nintendo. especially nintendo -- they wont make mad bucks if they dont sell consoles
Jordan Jenkins
>optical drive ok... >own GPU wait... >OS but >and CPU dude, that's a console as it already is. >sell it for $150 find me a CPU+GPU+OS combo that's that cheap and can run console games at least as they run on nowadays console, i'll wait. >it can be added into any PC with a 650W PSU. Yeah, cause of the full price of a console, the majority of the cost you cut is made off the PSU obviously.
Bam, PCs win. They win already? >Consoles win. No, they would lose money selling such a thing at such a low price without being able to profit as much as they do now with normal consoles. >PSU manufacturers win. Just like consoles, they'd lose money. They make more profit producing custom PSU for consoles and selling various Wattage PSU to the PC market than producing and selling more 650W ones.
God you're retarded.
Blake Wilson
I highly doubt you could fit all the hardware components of a PS3 in a 3.5" enclosure.
