Nah. All you gotta do is visit a US base town. Not only will you see overweight Americans and their families but it spreads to the locals too. Places like Yokosuka and Sasebo are famous for Burgers. Huge American style bar burgers. Tons of burger joints in these towns. Somehow the American lifestyle infects the Japanese living there too.

Point being there are places in Japan where I've seen American XXL sized Japanese people.
