Let's be honest, who didn't choose Li in Kung Fu

probably either cowboy or ninja

the space ship one.

I chose Sammo because he was a fat fuck and I respected that

I liked Caveman because the setting was pretty unique for a JRPG

where my /prehistoric/ boys at?

Remake and/or spiritual successor when

all of them were good.
but objectivily, cowboy

Secret Orders=Inheritance>King of Demons=Mechanical Heart>Wandering>Contact>Blood Flow>Strongest

I particularly liked the fast paced /Put traps everywhere to even the odds' of Wandering.

So, which one was Strongest and what was wrong with it?

is this game worth playing and how long is it?

The robot one was cool. I liked the variety in the missions of this game

probably the ninja

>dat feel when only way to get the best weapon is to sneak around and avoid engagements

I liked Sundown's chapter, even if it was pretty short. Pogo's and Cube's were pretty unique, and the Kung Fu and Ninja Chapters were nice too.

Didn't really care for the Wrestling one or whatever the hell Akira's chapter was supposed to be

Modern Fighter, where you have to learn moves from the 6 fighters by getting into position to be hit by them.
It's tedious.

The Wrestler one. Not horrible or anything, and the idea of just doing the Boss Fights and absorbing skills to fight the next is a decent one, but not for a Turn Based JRPG with a very limited number of fights (since this is just one chapter of many). It's also the shortest one.

I fucked up at first by spreading out my training among all three students

Oh, okay.

Out of curiousity, which one's the longest?

>not spinning the lady
considering she practices Drunken Master style, she's obviously the best

Is there anybody who didn't play the chapters in approximate chronological order?

Straybow did nothing wrong.

Thing with the Wrestler is that you're essentially a blue mage in a scenario where it's awfully easy to miss out on moves you have to learn. It's also the weirdest scenario out of the bunch because it's just straight up fight after fight. That theme, though.

Near Future, Ninja and Prehistoric are pretty long if you want to do sidequests and bosses.
Though the longest is Final.

I usually get the Wrestler and Akira out of the way first

>A thread about Live a Live that gets replied

Don't see that every day

Probably either Caveman or Anime Guy, hard to say which one

>mfw your chosen student finally masters and executes the secret move in the final battle

>why are you always better than me at everything, Oersted
>fuck you asshole, how dare you be better than me and win in honorable combat
>lol demons
The Princess is way worse than Straybow though, what a bitch

It's probably the overall shallowest chapter in most aspects

>it's cool as fucking shit
>unlock it for infinite use when you hit a certain level
oh
shit
nigger

The cavegirl's pretty much the only female character in the game who isn't crazy, a bitch, or both

>You actually die in that chapter
>Your chosen student was the real protagonist

While I know it's not the best JRPG, I love what it tries to do more than almost any other 16-bit one

What an amazing. Like one user said, if only it was originally localized it would've probably been one of great SNES genre classics.

>game punishes you for being a good teacher and training all your students as opposed to sheer favoritism
that was fucked up desu

I have yet to see anybody who likes Akira's chapter, at least particularly

people always point to megalomania, but holy fuck if the entire soundtrack isn't stellar

Oersted...had a hard life

I really liked the psychic's chapter in spite of its flaws. The 90s anime aesthetic really gets to me. I brought him around for the entirety of the final chapter.

When you know that shit just got real
youtube.com/watch?v=H3dtChrIgok

Huh, the evil chief looks a lot gayer than his sprite led me to believe.

Akira's chapter is infuriating, especially since you can only get strong skills for Taro and therefore, Cube from that stupid scientist who can only randomly upgrade the junk you farm from the battles

Octopath traveler is on its way

Li isn't either, she's just drunk.

youtube.com/watch?v=Pkkw9xB1c0g
Best battle theme.

What's that about?

concept wise ninja. setting wise, western

Are you for real?

Matsu was a true bro

It's goddamn terribly designed.
At least the other scenarios are clever or brief.

>using the Armageddon command as Odio!Oersted
sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeitttttttttt.
oh my god yes that's so good
one of my favorite things about the chapter right there
I'm the taiyaki guy!

youtube.com/watch?v=xkJ0dyp-2lA
>that slap bass in Oersted's battle theme
ungh

How come I never heard about this game before? It's a JRPG so it goes on my list.

Because you are a faggot.
Go play Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma too.

While there is a bit of overlap, Octopath is more of a SaGa successor.
I want to see a LiveaLive successor in which several characters all face manifestations of the same foe in different time periods, and then end up together in an anachronistic nightmare.

Eight travelers wandering the land, you pick one. Each character has some unique traits that dramatically change how they can interact with things and people in the world.

>King Mammoth

Be honest
Can you actually beat all of Captain Square?

Viking and/or Pirates would be a must when it comes to time periods

Fuck Polka dots

Final bosses: Odionson, Odious Blackbeard.

Great Depression could also be neat. And if you wanted to do something really out there, one of the time periods could be Precambrian and star a microscopic organism or something

I guess the boss of the second one would be a virus

>go scavenging with your dumbass ape pet
>shortly afterwards, you find the finest girl you've ever seen hiding in food storage
>but oh shit, another tribe as invaded your place for some reason
>beat the shit outta some long haired bitch boy with a lizard for a dick
>turns out the girl was a sacrifice for some OG dinosaur
>tribe leader banishes you, your pet, and the girl to the wilderness
>trek all the way to the enemy tribe to settle things or kick caveass, whichever came first
>Find Lizard-Fucker and King Asshole on top of cliff, which collapses after a dinosaur is summoned
>Leader gets eaten by motherfucking O-D-O, but your ragtag party teamed up with Zaki and killed the motherfucker
>both tribes merge with plenty of food to go around, and you and girl starts the process of making the human race beautiful

And that's why I like Prehistoric the most

>the first word spoken in the history of humanity is SWEET
>while Pogo fucks her brains out
truly a man to be idolized

youtube.com/watch?v=VvJdNHsY0Fs

>yfw listening to it now

>Be a stranger with a big gun on your hip
>Have to fight cocky kids who want to take you in every other day
>OH shit, a huge ass gang is coming to town
>You can outdraw one, not twenty
>Find creative ways to thin out their numbers within minutes
>Still have to fight their Gatling Gun wielding boss
>It's a fucking horse made from the spirits of those that died in the civil war
>Ride towards the sunset after it's over, once again

And that is why cowboy chapter is the epitome of Short and Sweet

>Cola Bottle

>mfw noticing the chapter boss names halfway through the game

I really like how much the Wanderer chapter lets you interact with the world to even the odds. Or not at all and just fight the gang head-on.

>sparing Mad Dog
>he tames said evil horse after the battle
>Sundown shoots the fucking reins loose again like he did with Silver
this fucking guy

I did find it kinda funny that due to the boss naming convention, there's a big, menacing, murderous man named motherfucking "Odie"

best fight in Wanderer Chapter ignores all traps and fights the Crazy Bunch with Mad Dog
it's a clusterfuck but it's super cathartic
pity you couldn't recruit one of the Mariachis to fight with you, Pancho would've been great

to those who haven't played most of those old translation-only RPGs like Live-a-Live I highly suggest Treasure of the Rudra
it's tough as shit but the spell system is interesting
story's fucking great
Surlent's a goddamn retard though

Kill you...

>game was never translated officially
>gets a fan translation
>can't talk about it on /vr/ because most people have no idea what the game is due to not having played it in their childhood

Such is life. How was Live A Live received in Japan?

>be the new demon lord Odio
>decide to kill the heroes of the different time periods so no one can stop you
>wait, shit, I'm actually losing this battle
>god fucking damn it to all hell why do I fuck everything up STRAYBOW WAS RIGHT
>FUCK IT
>ARMAGEDDON
>proceed to destroy THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE AND TIME WITH IT
>fucking Straybow

Cult classic.

>Treasure of the Rudra
sounds cool

Kinda wish Oersted!Odio's final battle was becoming a chimera of all the Odios through time.

I liked the funky-ass flower-face thing we got

>1450~ BC Egyptian Soldier challenged by a dangerous Canaanite warrior
>800s Viking fighting back against Charlemagne's conversions of pagans
>1600s Pirate taking on one of the largest French fleets secretly dealing with rival pirates in the Caribbean
>1920s Prohibition Era Gangster running a speakeasy, in a gang war against a rival mob and their crazy boss
>1980s just a normal Dog in a peaceful suburban neighborhood but suddenly a nutjob starts kidnapping animals
>2000s Professional Hitman hired to take out an unhinged, overly violent hitman
>2200s Cyborg in an age where everybody is so loaded with augmentations that they're losing their sense of humanity

>2020s big city lawyer who is at the height of his career after a major victory, but loses his family to a serial killer that he unwittingly exonerated some time before. He goes mad with rage, killing the murderer AND the murderer's family.

>Info Analysis

I liked the caveman one except the boss

>that last one

Sounds fun

>the lawyer willingly goes to prison after killing the serial killer's whole family
>he lashes out and keeps trying to kill any other inmates he can get near
>put into solitary confinement, the isolation only causes his rage to fester
>his hatred is so strong that he becomes the lynchpin Odio
>the characters from the other time periods end up in a warped prison where the lawyer is the "judge"
>With the exception of the dog just being an animal and the cyborgs basically discarding their humanity, all of the main characters are people who have killed or kill for a living and he seeks to judge them, fire with fire

I’m surprised no one has ever copied live a live’s gimmick. It would be cool as shit for 7-8 developers to each design a ~6 hour scenario that fit together.

I didn't know what was happening and everyone but fatty died
