In fact you can't name a single flaw.

Portal

Too dumbed down.

>garbage tier ankle deep physics puzzles with le epic memes

nah

As a series of self-contained puzzles, Witness is great and the environmental stuff was awesome. That said, as a 3D exploration-based puzzle game, it's terrible and John Blowjob is a hack.
>Put an entire mechanic in place that has 1 tutorial point at the peak of the mountain (good)
>The mechanic itself is not only not needed to beat the game, but has no deeper meaning or impact on anything, just puts a mark on a pillar that you did the thing and makes the pillar white if you find them all in a given portion of the map (stupid as hell)
>All that philosophical nonsense (Shit)
>One of those non-mandatory puzzles that have no impact is hidden inside a 1-hour long video that requires you to watch the whole damn thing and unlocking the video requires you do literally everything else in the game (Fuck you)
>Then has some shitty overarching talk about how your actions meant nothing, you were not the Witness, you were looking for the Witness to each puzzle
For what makes a 3D Exploration Puzzle game good, it lacks most of it.

My dad's puzzle weekly magazine for 50yo men he brings with him when he goes to take a dump

>dude lines lmao

Good game but was a massive disappointment in that regard.

You're right that all the pretentious shit was pretentious shit. Jonathan said that he aims to evoke a sense of awe in the player, the kind of awe that makes a rabbi dedicate his life on translating Hebrew scripts or something like that. But it's just really pretentious shit and nothing more.

This is also a puzzle games thread by the way.

thread reached its purpose.

Name a single challenging puzzle in Portal. In Portal 2 you didn't even solve puzzles but instead just looked for that tiny white spot hidden somewhere so you could shoot a portal on it.

Tetris

i don't know about you, but it made me feel in awe
i feel like blow knows what makes a game good and fair, but sometimes goes out of his way to fuck with the players to have his own fun andi gotta say, i think it makes the game a little bit special
i mean, it could have been just a good puzzle game but instead it's the puzzle game with the bullshit one hour puzzle, that's not good, but it's memorable, it's different, and as much bullshit as it is i appreciate it in some from

No that's not Call of Duty Advanced Warfare.

nah all the voice recordings and shit felt really pretentious

What makes a good 3D exploration puzzle?

The Talos Principle is everything The Witness wanted to be. Challenging puzzles, actual philosophical depth, beautiful serene environments, and meta-puzzles that exist outside of the "main" puzzle rooms, which offer an even greater challenge to those who want to truly master the game, but are not required to see the ending.

If I hadn't played TTP first, I probably would have thought The Witness was a fantastic game. But it's not. It's just okay.

Is it worth 40 bucks?

I wonder why The Witness is called The Witness.

The Witness is a pleb west coast version of the slavic masterpiece that is The Talos Principle.

>single challenging puzzle in Portal
OP asked for a better designed puzzle game, not a harder one. Not that it matters since Witness is piss easy

You lost all your credibility.

>satrakshita.com/the_observer_is_not_the_witness.htm

could it be this?

Talos? Easily. It's my favorite video game of the last decade, to tell you the truth. You can get it for 10 bucks when it goes on sale though, which is pretty often, so just put it on your wishlist if you wanna get it cheap. I recommend picking up the DLC campaign, Road to Gehenna, as well.

endgame puzzles are just tedious instead of challenging.

also the story was one big red herring.

Nice because I only have fifteen euros on my steam account

>Jonathan said that he aims to evoke a sense of awe in the player, the kind of awe that makes a rabbi dedicate his life on translating Hebrew scripts or something like that.

what a faggot.

speaking of
>the book of wisdom
that's from a Jewish script, he's the rabbi himself it seems, jokes aside, it seems to confirm that the witness is all about that text

Oxyd

I'm thoroughly convinced the people who shill for TTP haven't actually completed it. It starts off really good and quickly becomes a complete boring mess.
Not that The Witness is much better, it too becomes a tryhard inconvenient narrative pusher by the end.
But fuck, these anons shilling TTP make it sound like it's much better - nah they're equal levels of hot garbage that needed more dev time near the end.

Jonathon blow looks like bradley manning. Mind blown.

I don't see how that makes sense for the witness, which is non linear

The worst you can say about Talos and have some credibility is that it's a bit long and a few puzzles feel like padding. And even then, it's not so in the expansion.

Oooh shit, this guy knows!

I'll admit it can feel like the narrative slows down near the end, especially if you get stuck on one of the puzzles and spend a lot of time in one room, or if you're going for all the stars. But I did like the game enough to play it twice, and 100% both the main campaign and the DLC. Just comes down to personal opinions, I guess.

I agree, Road to Gehenna's pacing is even better than the main story.

Witness was junk in comparison to any of these.

the fact the game has 3D free movement actually detracts from the experience. it basically gives the same exact experience as the average phone puzzle game if you ignore the parts that are bad about the witness.

and yet many game "journalists" consider this the best puzzle game of the year it came out (which happens to be the same year as obduction, a puzzle game that is actually 3D instead of 2D forced into a 3D world)

How does it detract from the game? You are right though, this is coming to iOS.

Not official, but the mod expansion Portal Stories: Mel had some legit challenging puzzles towards the end, requiring some creative uses of mechanics.

Fuck that room so hard. I spent so long in there that when I finally beat it I didn't even feel like playing anymore. I quit the game and never started it up again.

I didn't even think that was even the hardest puzzle. The two near the end of the game had me stuck for a long time.

How would the environmental puzzles work without you walking around and aligning everything through observation?

got bored really fast because I'm a brainlet, but the game was really comfy. I want to live on that island.
