The thing described exists but calling it a "half-press" is somewhat misleading.
They don't. If you call it an "A function" suddenly it becomes impossible to do "half an A function." pannenkoek's entire argument is based around being anal with his language.
a half an 'a' press cannot exist in the same vein that you cannot do half a jump
but if you jump over a fence, half your jump was one one side, while the other half was on the opposite side.
in mario 4 terms, half the jump is in one level or area, while the other half is in a different one altogether

LORE
Why is fucking MARIO 64 the game that attracts shit like this
I didn't know the action of "pressing" meant to release it.
How is it possible for one person to be this depressing and naive?
Correct, he really should change
>level done in 2.5 A presses
to
>level done in 2 A presses and ending with A held down.
There are a lot of strange thinks that the game did to make it fit. This is a game that is the 8 MB, size of like 3 MP3's, and they did a lot of strange workaround to make it that small, but that also makes a lot of unusual things if you try to break it. you know, like pokemon RBYG

The ONLY, one (1) person who competes in the "A Button Challenge" (ABC) is pannenkeok. He's the only one. That means there's no reason not to accept his terminology of what constitutes an "A Press". Why argue about the semantics?
For example, if he called them "expenditures" and made a video with only 0.5 expenditures, would people be autistically screeching that nobody is being paid anything? Would they argue that nothing is actually expended because you can press A as often as you want with no scarcity?
Of course not. It's all autism.
Has he found a way to get up that pole in Bowser in the lava sea yet with 0 A presses?
no
Correct. It's a negative edge.
>it takes him more than a quarter a press to travel across 4 parallel universes

...
you cant 0.5 press a button
you can press it,
you can hold it
you can release it
Henry was right
Here's an idea.
There are no half A presses, but there ARE half jump inputs. It's arguable that there is less of a tangible return from separating the press and the release of the button, however it is undeniable that INSIDE the game there is a tangible difference. Should we consider this phenomenon to be half an A input instead of half an A press?
You have that backwards. In the context of the full run, the A press disappears because you enter the level having pressed it from a prior level and not letting it go. But in the context of just that level, then you have to press it down at some point as is the nature of the beast.
It's really more like a quantum press. The A press appears or disappears depending if you're doing a full game run or just a run on the star.
