Which Japanese console has the edge in power and performance?
Which Japanese console has the edge in power and performance?
why do people still not realize that the switch and ps3 are not comparable?
Console Warring aside, this is dumb. Switch is definitely weaker than PS4, but even the Wii U was stronger than PS3.
The switch is more powerful than the ps3 undocked
t. indie dev
It is NOT on the same level as the xbox one undocked but it can run any game the xbox can
At least the PS3 has games, unlike the Switch
Tell me what games the PS3 had in its first six months
I don't know the exact spec of either but I'm pretty sure the Switch is a decent amount more powerful, nothing like the jump from PS3 to PS4 though, if I had to guess I'd say the Switch is around 50% more powerful. Just look at Skyrim on Switch and on PS3.
Only took it a decade.
wrong it's about 30
yeah, third party games a.k.a games that are on PC & xbox as well
To be fair, it had a lot of exclusives, however they're not very memorable so even if I list them you will dismiss them and to be honest, I agree, I don't mind a lot of shit games as long as there are many great ones, but a bunch of mediocre crap isn't good either.
Game*
Don't be too hard on him, naming one game is more than enough of a challenge.
lel the PS3 didnt have games for like 4 years after it came out.
What the Switch lacks in power, it makes up for with its ability to be played anywhere. The portability + power is what makes it the best. However, seeing as Sonyfriends don't like to go outside, I wouldn't expect them to understand.
The Switch is truly the gaming system for Chads.
This. The hardware of the Switch is lackluster for a home console, but amazing for a handheld so it balances out.
If I wanted to play games PS4/Xbone games, I'd build my own gaming desktop, like a Normal.Human.Being
Okay, but then you can't take it on the go.
Nivida shield plus portability means jackshit when you get a heavily downgraded version of a game and have to use a shit controller
>Shit controller
Ok I'll give you that the hardware isn't that impressive, but HAVE YOU FUCKING HELD THE THING? It feels so good.
Okay I admit the games are going to run like ass on it, but hey, at least it has super merio
I see you memesters always sprouting MUH PORTABILITY and I was curious as to when you actually use it.
>Pointless in the home as you can play your desktop/Console
>Pointless in the garden as you can stream your [more powerful system] to a Vita/Laptop
>Pointless when out with friends/family because you're meant to be socializing not *bing bing wahoo*ing
>Can't use it while driving
Unless you have a 45 minute+ commute on public transit or are some sort of Coffee shop hipster who goes everyday for a prolonged period by yourself, I cannot see a use for the handheld mode. When do you dorks make use of it?
>Going outside makes you a chad
kek
I play it during my lunch at work. I also take lots of roadtrips so it's great for those and camping. I also like to play it in bed.
nobody wants to dual wield some small dildo
they just say so i can move around the house or so i can use the bathroom while playing but if you use it in the bathroom how long do you fucking take
you have a tv a computer and laptop for all of that
plus what about everything else
you dont buy a console just to play it in bed
That's the thing. You can play it on your TV, or on your bed, or on the road, or at work, basically anywhere. It also has two of the hottest exclusives of the year, Mario and Zelda.
Pirating doesn't count.
Talladega Nights: the ballad of Ricky Bobby
i can buy the game and play it on pc
and i can do the same with pc plus more
i can stream my ps3/4 games to vita if im at home no excuse about not being able to use a pc during lunch break same with road trips or on bed
True, you can do it all with a laptop, but a laptop is bulkier and less convenient. You also can't legally play Breath of the Wild or Mario.
Switch easily.
>why do people still not realize that the switch and ps3 are not comparable?
Saying that the Switch is more powerful than a PS3 should not be a controversial statement but for some reason it is because “people” like you can’t let it go.
You absolutely can compare the two. This CELL bullshit needs to die.
Firstly and most importantly, the Switch has a modern GPU with more horsepower even in portable mode and a decade’s worth of efficiency improvements. RAM bandwidth is the same as the XDR pool in PS3 except it isn’t split in half like the PS3 RAM and there is 8x the capacity.
Switch has a true multi core CPU. PS3 has an antiquated single core PPC in order processor with a high clock speed but a long pipeline. It has several smaller cores called SPEs that work more like GPU compute cores than CPU cores. Workloads needed to be divided among them just to keep up with the 360 which had no SPEs but thee of the same type of primary core.
So your argument comes down to the exotic incompatible CELL which was only good for folding proteins and demcompression. The CPU was good for SIMD but Switch is better and has a modern and way more efficient out of order design.
The tl;dr is that Switch in portable mode is an objectively more powerful video game console than the PS3 even in portable mode
you can if you buy it then rip it
and nivida shield does the job perfectly
Oh come on. I like the Switch because it has good games not because I can lug it places where I supposedly have something better to do than play video games otherwise I'd still be home. Also playing full console games on that tiny screen is a bad way to play them and I'd rather wait until I can play the game docked.
Nvidia shield does what job?
>Another Ai-chan poster
>He's also a Switchbro
My nigga
I meant that the switch is clearly more powerful than the ps3. why is reddit so easy to detect?
PS3 is a 10 year console. I hope this pent up rage makes you feel better.
handheld pc
>Another Ai-chan poster
>He's also a Switchbro
nintenbros are funny
I actually do spend about 10 hours commuting a week which definitely adds value to the system for me.
is that real
...
I know right
The Switch is portable
only lonely weebs enjoy ai chan
yes this is true.
Even if the switch was slower than the PS3, the memory 8 times bigger would allow it to pretend it is faster by delivering much better textures and cheating to hell with PRT textures.
But sadly for the PS3 in this comparison, the switch also blows it out of the water in pretty much everything else, including running actual, non vectorized code.
>look up ps3 and switch specs
>gpu chips
>ps3 comes in at .4 tflops
>switch at .512 tflops
wtf lol the switch is baller
I do not want to play triple A titles while i walk around with my chicken tendies. in fact, fuck videogames in public. Grow up kiddies.
It's only controversial because the Switch still hasn't really demonstrated its power and the Wii U never lived up to the claims of hardware superiority over the PS3 and 360.
>the Switch has a modern GPU
in architecture only, not in performance. PS3's dedicated VRAM has as much memory bandwidth as the Switch in total. Even PS3 and 360 were able to run Wolfenstein at 60fps.
Gflops/Tflops are not a very useful measure of power.
They only measure how well the GPU runs its fastest instruction looped over and over.
Look up the CPUs, in terms of FP performance PS3 CPU is significantly faster, like 10:1.
pbtbtbtb
Well, PS3/360 struggled to get to the full 720p resolution in many, many games, while you can count in one hand the number of games that don't deliver full 720p on the portable mode of the switch.
And the docked mode generally have an average of 900p of resolution, all while delivering many, many 60 fps titles, when this frame rate was not exactly very common on PS3/360, needing seriously autistic japanese programmers like polyphony digital to reach that.
The Cell processor is indeed optimized for floating point performance, while being absolute trash at being an actual processor.
This was done on purpose by Mr.Kutaragi to make the games optimized for the cell run like trash on regular CPUs, and the plague of the cell optimized games never fucking end, giving trouble even for the PS4.
>People are trying to act like a handheld is particularly powerful by trying to compare it with a console that is 11 years older than it.
wut
The OP intention was to imply that it is not.
But people in the comments are acting like its an achievement and not par for the course for handhelds.
Nintendo handhelds have generally aimed further back with more 'withered' technology.
The Switch represents a big change in how they do business using a recent off-the-shelf SOC instead of highly custom parts, and it uses the latest and greatest APIs, more recent and full featured even than the PS4 or Xbone's API.
Its been true of nintendo handhelds for a loooooooong time, too. There's nothing out of the ordinary about the power level of the Switch relative to common handheld progression.
A better lineup than the Switch if we're not counting last-gen ports.
>Its been true of nintendo handhelds for a loooooooong time, too.
I can't think of the last time Nintendo had a handheld that was on anywhere near as recent hardware or development technology as the Switch.
Typically Nintendo has aimed their systems further back so developers could re-use the same sort of expertise they would have needed for the previous generation.
Even the PSV came no where near to being as up to date as the Switch is.
With the Switch, Nintendo is in some ways actually out ahead of the PS4 and the Xbone with a more modern GPU architecture and an up to date set of dev tools with the latest and greatest graphics API.
Handhelds have always been on a near parity with a potential bump over LAST gen hardware. This isn't any different whatsoever.
GBA >SNES generation
DS>64 generation
>3DS>Gamecube generation
>Switch>7th gen
This is NOT abnormal handheld progression. People just think it is because fanboys.
>Even the PSV came no where near to being as up to date as the Switch is.
It literally was. The vita launched against the ps3 and did the SAME shit the switch is doing, well done previous gen ports and some downgraded multiplats. Some of those multiplats were even REALLY close.
Because autism. Because that autism hates Nintendo for some bizarre reason.
A lot of people like to pretend the vita came out like last year and not almost six years ago.
When the GBA was out, the previous generation was the PS1/N64, not the SNES
When the DS was out the previous generation was the PS2.
Its really not until the New 3DS that Nintendo had a system as powerful as the previous generation, and even then it was only their previous generation system which was significantly less powerful than the other systems of the time.
>It literally was.
No it wasn't. The PSV was stuck with an older graphics API than the PS3.
The Switch literally uses the most advanced API that is currently available. Its more modern and more powerful even than the XboneX's D3D12.
wrong 3ds is nowhere near ps3 level
>and the Wii U never lived up to the claims of hardware superiority over the PS3 and 360
It kind of already did. A lot of the multiplats that released for both looked and ran better on Wii U, the most notable example being Bayonetta 1 PS3 VS Wii U, which ran like ass on the former.
The gap was barely noticeable, but it was there.
Where did I say that it was?
I think you misunderstand, I said the New 3DS was as/more powerful than the Wii.
And before any Xbone fanboys get up in arms, yes Microsoft's consoles are more powerful.
Vulkan is a more modern and efficient low-level API than D3D12.
The Switch uses that in order to burn much less power than it would have needed to with older APIs.
>I said the New 3DS was as/more powerful than the Wii.
That's not even true. It runs the ports it got like crap and they took a MASSIVE visual hit to do that.
the wii is more powerful than 3ds and the wii was a embarrassment only *kinda* more powerful than gamecube
When the gba launched, nintendo's current system was the 64.
The DS launched in 2004.
I don't think you know your timeline as well as you like to think you do.
that's true gba was sixth gen and n64 fifth gen
The point was that nintendo builds and releases their handhelds targeted at a previous gen level.
They released the GBA while the n64 was still their console targeted towards their previous generation system.
Then released the DS while the gamecube was their current active system targeted at their previous generation system level.
Then released the 3DS targeted at their previous generation system level.
Sonybro detected.
ps4 is stronger than switch dumb nintenkid
this is why 3ds fans dont like switch
>GBA rides snes ports
>DS rides some 64 ports
>3ds got ps2 ports and new 3ds got some wii ports.
>switch gets wii u ports.
Wow, it rhymes.
I said sonybro damnit, fucking Sup Forums!
It's real handy when I am in bed late night and too tired to sit. I rent an apartment with my brother and we have one big TV so when he wants to see soccer matches I just undock my Switch and play portable Or if I go to my balcony and get some fresh air.
It also was really useful during/after Hurricane Irma where I didn't have power for days and had to rely on public wifi and a place to charge my Switch (at my office or local McDonald's) so I could at least play something at home.
s-o-n-y-g-g-e-r
fuck you Sup Forums autocorrect.
Use sonygro (sonygroes plural) or sonygroid instead.
I sure hope he's a Sonybro, because he was being reasonable instead of shitposting and saying the Switch is weaker than PS3.
>PS3
>games
Play in the hour gap I have between classes and work. When my roommate wants to watch something on the TV I can just undock my switch and hang out on the couch. I can lie in bed and play games effortlessly. This is like asking why anyone would want a laptop or tablet instead of a desktop, each has their purpose.
>it makes up for with its ability to be played anywhere.
Why the fuck would you play games anywhere but at home?
>Nintendo's portable consoles have been hugely successful since the beginning, showing that portability is obviously a great selling point and people find value in it
>Nintendo creates a far more powerful handheld than usual and suddenly everyone says "MUH PORTABILITY"
Don't you have your own tv?
>switch and ps3 are not comparable
enough with your normalfag logic. You can compare hardware generally based on available graphics settings and frame rate
Playing during long commutes/trips on bus/train/plane and during lunch break at work.
Biggest one is in the living room. I prefer not to use the small TV at my desk, I'd rather sit in a more comfortable position
>Chad's like Nintendo
Remote play works like shit on PS4. Steam works much better but it's still not 100% consistent. I don't want to get fucked by a random network-induced stutter even if it's once every 20 minutes. And this happens regardless of your hardware: I have an MSi GT62VR laptop and an Asus AC68U router: PS4 Pro streaming works like fucking shit regardless of settings and setup (even with both console and PC wired directly), whereas Steam works 99% reliably.
Switch works 100% reliably regardless of the environment. Play it around the house, in the garden, laying down on your bed or couch, during your commute, a few minutes during work breaks...
I barely play games on anything other than a 3DS, Vita and especially Switch.
>nobody actually answered the question
kek
