What is Sup Forums's opinion about this game? personaly my favorite star wars game
I found it to be it's pointless to play single player, and multiplayer is equally opintless as I'm shit at RTS/10
Consortium ships 2 stronk
On release this basically destroyed the online community because they were so blatantly OP.
Never played the expansion, but in the main game I thought the space battles were fun and the ground battles useless shit.
My favourite game is Galactic Battlegrounds, AKA Age of Empires 2 with a Star Wars skin. Had some incredible custom games too. Thanks for asking, OP.
It's the modern dumbed down take on Rebellion.
I was so excited about this game when it came out, but only played it a little because it felt so shallow. 6/10
I like it and still play it once in a while.
It's about ten years old now. Why can't I be 90 years old and on my deathbed right now?
But Rebellion was complete utter shit.
Thrawn's Revenge just had a big update released which is neat. Crazy to think how long that mod has been being worked on.
This with Thrawn's Revenge and Jedi Academy with Movie Battles II are my favourite SW games by far.
But in terms of unmodded I prefer Galactic Battlegrounds over Empire at War, and Jedi Outcast over Jedi Academy especially when it comes to MP.
>Thrawn's Revenge just had a big update released which is neat.
Erm no it hasn't. 2.2 isn't out yet and won't be for a while. 2.15 has been out for ages. They simply released it on Steam.
FoC with Thrawn's Revenge is much better than Rebellion ever was.
Especially once TR 2.2 comes out and adds a ton of new features because they figured out how to get around lack of access to source code and still code in new shit. They're basically using the game's .lua script support to exploit a hole in it and insert custom code.
I meant in terms of the time scale of how long the mod has been under development. I prefer the SoaSE version anywhos.
>I prefer the SoaSE version anywhos.
Seriously why?
I can't stand Sins having the planetary shit being real time and battles not being separated from management. It's a clusterfuck, performance always fucking dies because of that and space maps look like shit since there's no space maps, just fucking zoomed in galactic map.
Yeah it has more in terms of technology reserach, but even that is going to be moot with TR 2.2 and later 2.3 expanding on it, thanks to the custom code loophole they found.
The UI for EaW is fairly abysmal and ground battles are garbage. I was only ever interested in the space battles and the role playing, so with SoaSE I get better space battles and ditch the fluff.
>The UI for EaW is fairly abysmal and ground battles are garbage.
>UI
>Bad
You didn't just go there.
Also TR changes the UI a bit, but still stays faithful since they actually agree that UI is one of the stronger points of EaW.
Ground battles are optional (you can autoresolve them) and TR overhauls them anyway so your point is moot.
Also regarding "better space battles" in SoaSE, even TR devs disagree now that they can insert custom code into EaW. Ascendancy isn't getting any more updates since they're going to work full time on TR and FotR instead.
Yeah man I love just spamming storm troopers and then auto resolving every land battle. Great.
Also the UI is shit and pathfinding is garbage in every case.
Found this biggest problem was the disparity between scales. The scale on the tactical map was too big, and the scale in actual combat too small, and clearly only intended for a small fleet. Most games quickly tend to turn into churning out a blob of destroyers or their equivalents on the tactical layer and just warping in another one the second one dies for an hour straight on the space combat layer. Space layer contributes almost nothing to ground layer combat and vice versa.
Would love to see a newer game capitalizing on Rogue One that fixes some of these problems. Say, instead of the whole faction, you play as a single commander and requisition ships for your fleet from controlled worlds. Think something like Mount and Blade - you don't directly control the whole faction, you control your own warband and have other, AI commanders that operate independently but can be given general orders. Worlds mostly govern themselves but can be given aid or forces to bolster their defenses. Your ships are more in-depth - you can refit say, emplacements with ion cannons instead of turbolasers, ditch your tractor beam so you can squeeze more power out of your shields, weapons, or engines, ect. They require repairs after combat which involves both credits and time, and opens up hit-and-run strategies where you just try to get a good hit off on your enemy's ships and flee before taking any yourself so half their fleet is in maintenance at any given time. Fleets in orbit count a lot more and can perform a lot more actions to assist in ground battles, such as blockading enemy landing parties so half their dropships get taken down before reaching the surface, and likewise planetside forces can launch snubfighters and fire larger weapons to assist in orbital combat.
TL:DR Reimagine it as a cross between Mount and Blade IN SPACE and a slightly less micro-intensive Battlefleet Gothic: Armada. Lower the strategy layer scale to match the combat layer scale.
I never got why Jedi Academy was so popular. I played the hell out of jedi outcast multiplayer and JA felt so shit and random compared to it's predecessor. Especially the community was what kept me from enjoying MP in JA. In Jedi Outcast it felt like everyone was playing with some kind of code of honor and was idly standing by and watching while two others were facing off in a Force-Push/Pull Lightsabre Duel.
I feel so old when typing this shit down
JA got popular only because it was the "newer and shinier" entry with prequel shit like dual lightsabers and staffsabers. Too bad it's a broken bugged piece of shit with MP devolving entirely into Poke&Spin to win, despite both of those things being BUGS in the game that were meant to be patched but Raven Software's SW license ran out and they never managed to patch it in time.
JA development started forking it from 1.00 version of Jedi Outcast which also had those exact same bugs, that's why they're present in JA but they aren't in patched versions of JO.
What JA has over JO, is better mod support hence why for playing modded it's just straight up better.
But both the core MP mechanics unmodded or even the "slightly" modded ones from JA+ mod as well as Single player campaign are simply inferior in JA compared to JK2.
It also pisses me off when retards call JA "JK3" when even the devs said it's not JK3 and more of a standalone expansion to JK2, it's basically Mysteries of the Sith equivalent.
I know what you mean, I too was hyped as fuck for JA because off staffsabers and shit... But when I played it, I felt disappointed. I yearn for another good game in the style of Jedi Outcast... The Force Unleashed was ok, but not exactly what I wanted
Force Unleashed was God of War with Star Wars skin, how you can compare it to JO I don't even know.
I'll take 3d maneuvering and hit points with systems over hardpoint hp and 2d plane with overlap any day
try starsector
>3d maneuvering
Literally, LITERALLY does nothing, Homeworld further proved it. Your units will attack when they're in range and that's it, regardless of the "angle" at which they are, it's utterly fucking irrelevant visual-only-fluff that's also INACCURATE to Star Wars to boot, since Star Wars space battles are based on 17th century broadside sea warfare. Only fighters aren't meant to fly on 2D planes.

>posting cartoons for /comblr/ retards
Yep, you're SJW alright.
>Not getting the reference to the legendary 'Space is not an ocean' speech.
That speech and the Thrawn trilogy in general is what got me into games like FoC, Sins, and Homeworld as a kid in the first place.
Attack direction and formations were fucking HUGE in Homeworld, because it used actual hit detection and turret facing.
>Official mutliplayer update
>Thrawn's revenge 2.2 coming soon
>Republic at war 2.0 coming soon
>With multiplayer added other modders are making/updating their mods again
We will soon see a new golden age for this game when the 2 best mods get their updates out and other mods follow.
Not a Kotor thread but can somebody please post the Kriea Pretzel screencaps
...
Thanks user
Space combat is the best part of this game
>warping cruisers and star destroyers in a desperate attempt to destroy the enemys mon calamari capital ship

No worries, user.
>yfw SSD jumps in
>people unironically playing this EU garbage
>people are unironically adding prequelshit mods into this EU garbage
Disgusting
