So I started this game on recommendation of a friend. He said not to use a guide to get all 108 stars because it ruins the experience or something. I just finished it and I still tried to get all 108 characters but I'm still missing 6 after finishing it.
Is it even possible to get them all on your first playthrough without a guide? Also, I heard the second game gives a option to load a save of the first game and the story is effected whether or not you got all 108 stars in the first game or not? Is this true?
Should I go back and play it again with a guide or just load up the second game?
>Is it even possible to get them all on your first playthrough without a guide?
Yes, but it's mainly for replayability since it gives you a different ending and shit.
> heard the second game gives a option to load a save of the first game and the story is effected whether or not you got all 108 stars in the first game or not?
You can use the protag from the first game in the second one about halfway through (if you find him) if you have a savefile from 1. Some small things change in the story but nothing major.
>Should I go back and play it again with a guide or just load up the second game?
Second game. Save getting all 108 stars for when you replay it (if you ever do) later.
Luis Kelly
In the first one, it's practically impossible to recruit everyone without a guide, later games give you a detective type character who can give you hints how to recruit people, it's still pretty hard though.
Asher Perez
In 2 I'd honestly call it impossible to do on your first playthrough since you're on a clock and you generally don't want to rush through an RPG your first time through.
I think 5 and 4 are the most lenient when it comes to gathering all the 108 stars.
Andrew Ortiz
In 2 you don't need to rush to get all 108 stars, it's just to see some cool side content
Grayson White
So no big deal whether or not I have all 108 stars in the first game and start the second one?
Joshua Hall
Why does the PAL cover look so much better than the abysmal US cover
Gabriel Hill
Can't have faggy anime characters on your US cover.
Christopher Howard
people who say not to use a guide for Suiko1 and 2 are fags. Suikosource's recruit list is a necessity imo
it's more irritating to reach end game and find out you fucking missed somebody, and the endgame always benefits from having all 108 stars because the True Ending changes are clearly the intended narrative
If you don't want to use a guide in Suiko2, USE RICHARD.
it's really easy to just forget richard exists in your castle after you get him, but if you absolutely refuse to use a guide, he can research every recruitable character for you with hints on their recruit requirements
Jack Thomas
It is possible but unless you know what you are doing, you can miss some very easily.
For instance, Kreutz in dragon's area can only be recruited if you have Humphrey in your party, but past a certain point Humphrey becomes unplayable near the end of the game because he commands a platoon. So you only have a short window between getting the ability to recruit Kreutz and then the point of no return.
Only solution is to look everywhere all the time. It's a huge exploratory game.
Noah Jenkins
Do any of the US cover characters even represent ingame characters? It looks like they just slapped on random character art on it and called it a day.
Anthony Gutierrez
The castle in the middle looks kind of like it does in game, in so much as it is located in the middle of a body of water.
Benjamin Hernandez
>Is it even possible to get them all on your first playthrough without a guide? Probably. I found all but four on my own. If I hadn't got impatient, I may have been able to find them without a guide.
Samuel Cruz
Recruitment in suiko games has "guide dang it" strategy guide bait everywhere
>lol if you shake this one tree at the very goddamn beginning of suikoden 2 which you never have to do again, the star of destiny mukumuku the squirrel just falls out of the tree and joins you >if you collect every other character in the game and then go back through some random-ass low level cave, pesmerga is just standing there
Dominic Moore
>and start the second one? you will probably never start the second one. just play the first time slowly and get all 108. there is not a time limit to get the characters in part 1
Ryder Gomez
>that fucker hiding behind a fucking wall in a cave
was there any hint at all about where he was?
Oliver Murphy
Mukumuku is the only one like that, Richard tells you about everyone else.
Jack Ross
Still bullshit though.
Asher Moore
Mukumuku is NOT a missable recruit, you mong
1. Examine the large tree behind Genkaku's Dojo in Kyaro three times before meeting Nanami. 2. Wander the path from Greenhill to the Muse/Greenhill Border until he enters your active party. There must be a free spot in the party, and chances are higher if less people are in it. A True Holy Rune and a Champion's Rune can speed up the time it takes to get him in the party. Also, note that battles are not required, but rather standing still for over 30 minutes makes the chances better. This way is not recommended for the impatient, but is required for the remaining squirrel characters.
David Wright
2 ways to recruit Mukumuku
Ayden Rodriguez
>tfw you missed a entire hidden ninja village with recruitable characters because of a invisible hidden path somewhere in a treeline in SII
Fuck that shit
Nolan Jackson
>get all 108 stars on my own on my first playthrough on my own >doesnt count because Pahn fucking gets murdered by Teo because I didnt max out his weapon and armor Fucking bullshit
Alexander Nelson
>In 2 I'd honestly call it impossible to do on your first playthrough since you're on a clock and you generally don't want to rush through an RPG your first time through. I got all 108 stars on my first playthrough playing it in japanese. You're just a scrub, stop projecting.
Elijah Allen
and without a guide of course, that was back in the 90s.
Leo Powell
LOL you are not on a clock. There is no time limit on any characters. You lying scrub.
The only time a time limit comes into play is the Clive/Elza story in 2.
Jason Anderson
Man, I love the character recruiting although games haven't exactly been consistent with it.
>Suikoden 1 If you miss a character it means you just weren't paying attention to the game.
>Suikoden 2 Multiple really hidden characters with their own requirements, timed quest to recruit one, possible wrong choices with monsters, etc. Best at this.
>Suikoden 3 Generally easy enough, although some backtracking will be required for some characters.
>Suikoden 4 More obtuse characters with a LOT of overseas travel to get them, couple of unexpected party members.
>Suikoden 5 Return to S2 form with hidden characters here and there and generally have to think in order to recruit certain individuals. Second best in this aspect.
Jeremiah Hernandez
they were talking about part 2
Jackson Morgan
So hardcore dude, I finished Dark Souls using a Logitech G G920 Driving Force steering wheel once.
Grayson Lee
>you should 100% everything on your first run
kids these days
Brody Martin
>passive agressive fucking cuck
Lincoln Cox
>you have to speedrun everything
adults these days
Logan Ross
>If you miss a character it means you just weren't paying attention to the game.
except for this fucker
Ryan Nelson
The goofiest thing is that while the CD case boxart is that fucking Americanized mess, you open up the box and the instruction manual has the original Japanese/PAL boxart as seen in the OP.
Isaac Perez
Speedrun what? There's nothing timed in the first game and even in S2 game is generous enough to do Clive's quest on your first playthrough.
Easton Wilson
Inventory/equipment managment is fucking horrible in the first game. thats all I remember after 17 years.
Dylan Nelson
then you agree its not hard to 100% the game.
Luke Cruz
I totally forgot first and fourth games don't have a detective character.
Luis Green
>>Suikoden 1 >If you miss a character it means you just weren't paying attention to the game.
Really?
You "figured out" that you had to visit the Rikon inn over and over again for the 1/8 chance that Clive would show up after you've gotten 90+ Stars?
Elijah Thomas
I was always more annoyed by how game forced certain characters on you at times. It took them until Suikoden 3 to learn how to use the convoy function properly.
>first real boss in Suikoden 2 that can kick your ass >game sets you with Freed Y Fuck you, too.
Hudson Reed
>Not playing the best entry Come on now
Andrew Thompson
>Suikoden 3 Well yeah look at the party size compared to the first 2 games.
Aaron Watson
It's standard to recheck locations in Suikoden games after major events so I never really noticed. There's a reason why you have the Blinking Mirror.
Joseph Anderson
>protagnist grows older Correct me if im wrong but true rune holders dont grow older do they? Cant remember if he gave up his rune though. Been 11 years since I played S5
Oliver Myers
So you got lucky that when you rechecked you happened across him.
I didn't get him the first time through and learned about him afterwards, and in my 2nd playthrough I had to revisit Rikon nearly 20 times for him to show up.
Camden Clark
Best boi in every game hes in
Bentley Gonzalez
His was a fragment of a true rune.
Ian Barnes
>starting at 5 which is a lesser copypaste of 1 and 2 at best.
Xavier Taylor
it's like ffxv
Camden Collins
They're still wrong then. You can still recruit clive without doing the entire Clive/Elza storyline. You are still not on a timer to recruit him as a star of destiny.
So yeah I'm still right and there's no time limit to recruit anyone.
Eli Green
Go fuck yourself, V is actually good.
Connor Rivera
>They're still wrong then. the post i was replying to thought the person they were replying to were talking about part 1. i corrected them saying it was actually part 2 they brought up and not 1. thats ALL i wrote. stop projecting
Jordan Bell
This. 5 is OKAY. Much better than 4 but so is a hot fart.
1 and 2 are still way better in terms of world building and story telling. But nothing is better than 2.
Michael Richardson
>Suikoden 2 >timed quest to recruit one
Which one?
Joseph Clark
2>1>5>3>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Tierkreis Can we all agree on this?
Kevin Jones
when you talk to clive the first time, it triggers the countdown and you have to finish his questline in time to recruit him. if you dont finish it in time, he gets murdered so you cant recruit him
Aiden Reed
2 > 3 > 5 > 1 > 4
Caleb James
How many fucking times are you going to spout this nonsense that you are on a timer to recruit Clive? You aren't, you are on a timer to do his side quest with Eliza. If you are too slow you just recruit him when you get a boat and that's fucking that. You lose absolutely no stars for taking your time.
Easton Gray
>tfw I forgot about Tierkreis Fuck you for reminding me about that piece of shit
Ryan Myers
But that's wrong. The only timed questline is his stuff with Eliza. Or Elza? I don't quite remember.
Andrew Sanders
Clive is perhaps the only truly missable character in the game. If, for some reason, you do not activate the scene with Elza in Muse-which you must do on your visit to Muse after completing the White Deer Inn quest-then you'll not be able to get Clive.
Carter Wright
Missable Characters (Mostly for people wanting to get all 108 Stars of Destiny and the Best Ending) Mukumuku - Mukumuku can't exactly be missed, but can be rather hard to recruit later on in the game. You can recruit this squirrel near the beginning of the game. When you first go to Kyaro Town, before heading into your house, follow the path on the right side which will lead you to a large tree. Simply 'talk' to the tree 3 times and Mukumuku will reveal himself. If you missed him here it's alright. Later on, when you are heading to Greenhill to save Lady Teressa, make sure you have a single slot open in your party, you can recruit Mukumuku by walking between Greenhill and the Muse/Greenhill border. You don't have to recruit him at that point, but it is said that that is the easiest time to recruit him. Clive - When you enter Muse for the second time (After the Sindar Ruins scene at White Deer Inn), head to the very right of the city and then walk up, going through the ally. When you almost reach the top, a lady named Elza should stop you. Accept the package and keep going. Then Clive will stop you and ask if you have seen a lady named Elza. It doesn't matter which one you answer. Later on, try to leave Muse and Elza will stop you and take the packages from you. There will be a scene with Elza and Clive. Then later on in the game, when you reach South Window, you will see Clive in the shadows facing towards the exit. But before you actually recruit him, you must have already visited Lakewest. If you missed activating the scene in Muse with Elza and Clive, you won't be able to recruit Clive.
Charles Stewart
Gilbert - During the map battle near muse, where you have to stall Highland for a few days, you will see Gilbert on the battlefield fighting for Highland. After Highland has moved, Viktor and Flik will mention about Gilbert. Then Viktor will use his Fire Spears on him. It should damage him (He will have one sword stabbed into his unit). If he does, there will be a conversation between them and Gilbert will soon switch sides. It won't say "Gilbert joined your group", but you will have Gilbert recruited. After this, make sure he doesn't die (If he does, make sure it only says that he is injured and not died in the battlefield). Futch and Humphrey - When you visit Rockaxe to create an alliance, go to Highway Village and activate their scene. After the event about Kent going missing, agree to help and then go and complete their quest. After beating the Harpy and saving Kent, Humphrey and Futch will be recruited. You can do this also in the beginning of the game using the Matilda Glitch (See next section). It is best to do this now since afterwards, you won't be able to go back to Highway Village until after the point where you need to have 108 Stars of Destiny, which is near the end of the game. Jess - During the Tinto event regarding Neclord, you can actually miss recruiting Jess if you didn't accept his apology.
Owen Barnes
I love thinking how hilarious it must've looked to Rowd when he comes to arrest you two and there's a caped squirrel standing there ready to fight him.
Julian Ross
>tfw no S2 version where you play as Jowy and recruit all the highland members to your side. Seeing him grow stronger on the opposite side when fighting Gorudo together was interesting atleast.
Angel Ross
Did you miss me?
Mason Jackson
Never understood the bond between him and McDohl. Is it a gay thing or is gremio just really motherly for a scarred dude with an axe?
Either way it's cute.
Austin Russell
Gremio was like the Alfred to McDohl's Bruce Wayne.
Luke Wilson
maybe its translation and gremio wasnt as gay in the jap version
Xavier Jenkins
He's missable, not fucking timed you sperglords. There is a huge difference.
Adam Morales
Pretty sure hes gay for mcdohl. He starts to become insecure and stutter when he founds out you sneaked out of bed in the middle of the night with Odessa to do some ''secret'' business.
Jaxson Thompson
>2 is the only suikoden I never finished Everything after Luca dies is boring
Cameron Carter
Who was in the right?
Grayson Gutierrez
I always disagreed with that. It just shows conflict doesn't end if you kill the bad guy in charge of it. In fact, it gets even more complicated. It's like people arguing why Jowy didn't just surrender.
Aiden Clark
>When you do the defend inputs wrong and Nanami fucking dies.
Jaxson Brown
The whole sword and shield have to clash thing was pretty stupid to be honest. Both of them didnt want war. yet they continue to fight. atleast at one time the game gives you the option to just run away with nanami and gives a you a game over.
Connor Clark
Jowy >>>>>>>>>> Delita
Isaiah Allen
4 did this too. when you get stranded in an island and if you just want to live a peaceful life, you'll be in an endless loop until your characters' portraits turn into doodles
Henry Russell
>Best ending is the one where Riou and Jowy decide to just say "fuck everyone else" and run away along with Nanami. Shit, that was cool.
I meant the one time in Tinto though, where Nanami asks you if you just want to run away with her and live a peaceful life somewhere else away from the war. If you pick yes you will get a game over.
Zachary Perez
I used to play this game with my friend talon. I got stuck at the queen ant thing. This was my first anime...
oh it's the perfect ending. i thought there was another where you get to escape the war earlier with the 3 of you
Matthew Wright
Mute the sound btw, cancerous lets player fag dubbing.
Oliver Long
I would say 2 would be incredibly hard to get if you didn't have a guide available or at least some knowledge. If you completely explored every possible location at every possible new chance then maybe you could get them all but I would say that's super rare. Honestly, the bonus you get in the second game isn't all that great or required. It's cool to have Tir again and he and Riou have a cool double attack, but anytime you change the party you have to backtrack all the way to get him and it gets tedious. Just move on to the second game and then the third. They have a contained story between the 3 of them and I think 3 is the best personally.
William Collins
Dont you get Tir regardless of wether or not you got all stars? I thought the only change was that you got Gremio along with Tir if you got all stars in the first game
Leo Turner
Both were totally ignorant kids who had no business being as powerful as they were. I love Suikoden II but Riou and Jowy's plot has never garnered any sympathy from me. I kinda wish they had just stayed as soldiers for their respective countries instead of becoming leaders
Leo Perez
I'd always assumed:
Left - Barbossa, Ted, Wendy Mid - Futch Right - Luc, Leknaat, I'm pretty sure that was actually a boss in the game but it's been forever so who knows
Nicholas Thomas
Same with Suikoden 1 >Odessa meets you ''OMG I never seen eyes like yours before they draw people to you'' >dies a day later >Mathiu joins you and makes you leader because of the same reason
Nathaniel Torres
Man, I don't have time to replay a fucking RPG.
Mason Taylor
No, you need all 108 Stars to get Tir in Suikoden 2, and all 108 to revive Gremio in Suikoden 1
Cooper Carter
> yet they continue to fight Because if they don't, or keep evading each other, they'll eventually get rune cancer and die,
at least that's what I could infer from that "let's run away" ending; with just a picture of a hut and no music at all
Isaiah Gomez
I think it's pretty clear Riou was just a figurehead while Shu and your cabinet made all the decisions. Hell, this is evident in the game in a sense they always present a plan and just need your say-so to make it happen. Jowy was more of a legit leader, but still one that just sought to ease Luca's legacy while keeping Highland's dignity with small staff that shared his ideals.
>dat feel when Culgan and Seed believe in him to the end because he was a leader worth following and not someone who commanded through fear
Jacob Phillips
Or you know, they could just seal up the runes like their predecessors did.
Lincoln Ortiz
Problem is there was a lot more boiling under the surface with the whole Highland resentment over how City States handled them in the last war. In a sense Highland was WW2 Germany.
Brandon Bell
Just jump to the second game at this point honestly. Save the 108 for going back or something if you ever feel like it.
Also, man fuck that go ahead and use a guide for the 108.
Adrian Robinson
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: the Game
Juan Price
City states dont even exist anymore after luca dies because they destroyed it already. It's pretty clear the Dunan Alliance replaced it.
