Bought this Sunday. Might start it tonight. Already installed the game of thrones mod. Should I jump into it first, or play the base game to learn the basics? What am I in for?
Bought this Sunday. Might start it tonight. Already installed the game of thrones mod. Should I jump into it first...
>what am I in for
How about you play and find out?
How about you fucking spoon feed me.
>game of thrones mod
kys
pirate the dlc, that's all the additional content you'll ever need
Well first off make sure you get all the DLC, the game in literally incomplete without it. Pirate it if you can.
Secondly if you want learn the game start as a count in Ireland and work your way up to king, it's essentially tutorial island since no one is going to invade you and all your neighbors are as backward as you are.
Cool. I'll try that tonight.
What's the deal with the DLC? Is it a major overhaul of game mechanics?
Autism.
Just pirate the DLC. Don't bother getting Conclave or Monks and Mystics, they actively make the game worse. Sunset Invasion is just some fantasy scenario where technologically advanced Aztecs invade Europe so it's not necessary either.
As for options, set plagues to the reduced option (don't turn them off though). Leave everything as historical as possible in terms of mongol invasions and whatever. Leaving "supernatural" events or disabling them is up to you, I'm a /his/fag and personally I think they're stupid and just disable them, some people enjoy the fantasy-like RP or whatever.
You might also want to disable AI seduction unless you enjoy literally everyone getting cuckolded by somebody at some point, including you
If you're going to play your first game in Ireland, make sure you don't enable the Sunset Invasion DLC. It's a fantasy DLC that adds Aztecs invading somewhere along the Atlantic coast.
How about you try being independent for once?
but that sounds cool
It's cool until you see their 150k doom stack invasion force.
That's immune to attrition.
game is boring as fuck yo
Can I still pirate the DLC if I bought the game on steam? Will they be dickheads about it?
>Can I still pirate the DLC if I bought the game on steam?
Yes you can.
>Will they be dickheads about it?
They would if they could but they can't so they won't.
Vomit in my mouth like a momma bird
How is the game of thrones mod? Has anyone tried it?
Just a tip OP
Once you start rolling and got a few more duchies into your realm, take one ruler and make sure that fucker lives for 10 years and change the succession law to Primogeniture.
This makes it so that your oldest male will get all your shit and it makes everything so much easier and you will quickly learn that gavelkind which most of the Irish dukes have is ass
Dont listen to this nigger, Conclave is great, MandM is a bit fantastical but you can turn off devil worship in the game rules.
have you ever played grand strategy / paradox games?
if this is your first be prepared for a long ass ride simply learning game mechanics
I've played Civ 5
Civ is not grand strategy lol
forgot to post this
youtube.com
Hope it helps, don't let it scare you, practise makes perfect
It leans heavily on events to keep the plot in check. And since the timescale in the books is retarded and makes no sense you can easily blow passed the current end date in the books while fighting the war of the five kings.
Buy base game.
Pirate all the DLC.
Download AGOT, The Winter King, Historical Immersion Project and other good major total conversion mods.
Play on Tutorial Island in the base game, then play the mods. HIP is a straight up upgrade from the base game.
Aw shit. I didn't want the mod to follow the plot of the books at all. Why can't it just be a mod that takes place in that world?
If you pick a start date that's not during the events of the books then it will. It goes from like Aegon's conquest up to just before winter I think
That's what the bleeding years sub mod is for.
There are also bookmarks for the dance and aegon's conquest that are a bit more open.
Ignore those other Anons. They're talking complete shit. There are a shit load of bookmarks that don't cover the events of the books.
Try the Socotra start (located in the Gulf of Aden). Don't worry, your Muslim neighbors in the North won't hurt you.
Wth are bookmarks and sub mods?
What difficulty do I play for the first time if this is my first grand strategy game?
Which they just keep either on their ships or in Iceland.
>tfw no option to play as the Aztecs and steamroll across Western Europe similar to the Mongols
I mean, they may as well have embraced the nonsense when they made the DLC.
I can't play any mod that leaves western faces in the game. I just can't stand how everyone looks like they have fetal alcohol syndrome. Now that we have the english and german faces they should pretty much replace everything using those hideous western faces but most mods everyone uses western faces. It's unbearable.
Bookmark is a date. You can select an era you want to play in, essentially. Going back centuries from the books.
A sub-mod is a mod of a mod.
How do I kill my son without getting the kinslayer trait?
Don't get caught. Also why kill him when you can just order him to become a monk?
You can't plot against your children and you can't make heirs to titles monks.
AGOT is a great mod but the mechanics are pretty different from the base game
Try playing as ironborn first and raid the shit out of Lys, loot their stuff capture their women and fuck them, probably the quickest way to get rich.
Another good start I like are the Velaryons because theres a high chance that Danaerys will croak early on and at least one of her dragons will fly to Dragonstone - as High Valyrian bloodline you have a bonus to the tame chance. Then you can carve up Westeros and from then on you build New Valyria
Then put him at the front of a tiny army and have him lose a lot to the inevitable viking raiders.
Holy shit, the empress actually looks a lot like a girl I know. Almost spooky.
>should I jump into a mod for a game i have never played before
gee I don't know, what the fuck do you think you should do?
My name is Aegon the 8th Targaryen, son of Baelon Targaryen and his sister wife Naerys Targaryen. I just breached the gate of the moon in the Vale and put every Arryn to the sword because of a rivalry we've had since we were children. I also took his last female heir and wed her to my my brother who now controls he Vale.
Ask me anything
make him a commander and put him in suicidal situations or alternatively imprison him and put in him the dungeon to damage their health.
Make them a councillor and put them in a location with a disease.
Who's your favourite member of Girl's Generation
Aegon VIII sounds like a bitch nigga, eliminating an ancient lineage because he got his shit packed in as a young kid by an Arynn.
dont be a pussy struggling through a shitty heir is part of the game
Who are those whores?
Watch your tongue with me, or I'll have it ripped from your throat by my kingsguard. The Arryns of the Vale knew no respect, so I taught it to them through fire and blood.
playing my first game but 25 years of fucking consumption and measles jesus fuck im going to turn this shit off
also if I raise my own son he becomes my rival??? every time this happens I cba with rivals
>not Twice
>Tutorial island meme
It's not 2013, stop regurgitating this. Ireland isn't easier than anywhere else now ever since they made it so you need 51% dejure to create a duchy.
Also please pirate the DLC from cs rin ru. The creators are greedy kikes that try to extract huge sums of money from their poorest customers.
What's that mod where you play in post apocalyptic America and everyone is some tribe based off of college sports teams? That was some good silly fun
Sword of Islam allows you to play Islam
Rome adds Byz favor and retinues
Sunset Invasion is meme
Republic allows republics
Old Gods allows pagans, extends start date to 867
Sons of Abraham increases Abrahamic religions + can play as Jews
Rajas of India allows India
Charlemagne sets date back to 769
Way of Life increases RP & different stat change paths
Horse Lords allows playable Nomads
Conclave makes council always hate you
Reaper's Due adds diseases, hospitals, prosperity
Monks and Mystics is barebones with meme demon worshippers
ckiiwiki.com
>For vanilla gameplay max
Rome, Abraham, Way of Life, Reaper's Due
>Good Gameplay options
Republic, Old Gods, Islam, Horse Lords
>Meh Tier

[CK2] - After The End

The mercenary bands are football teams
this usually only happens to me when i have the ambitious trait
Ah that's it, thanks.
This mod is excellent. The Caribbean Empire and California are fun as hell. Taking back your empire as the celestial emperor is glorious.
>he links tutorial from 2014
do not listen to this user, game is totally different now
Is there anyway to just disable the stupid secret society half of monks and mystics?
I like the artifacts, but my useful vassals getting burned by my other vassals because they adopted a secret heresy is fucking retarded as are the cheats you get by reaching the top level of the satanist cults. The whole secret society shit is just awful.
Then how do I learn to play? Going into it blind just leaves me doing nothing but fabricating claims then getting btfo'd by superior armies because I can't afford mercenaries.
I went into the game blind as a Byzantine duke and had a blast. It really is the best way to play it. The game becomes far more dull once you learn how to cheese it.
Ireland. Also look at how many troops they can muster before war, so long as you aren't fighting across a river or attacking someone on a hill 9 times in 10 superior numbers will win.
make alliances mi'lad
>I went into the game blind as a Byzantine duke
With the Greeks, that can be interpreted in several ways
I was trying to answer you from work earlier when the thread was new but Verizon in my area is apparently rangebanned again. Don't use the mod, pirate all the DLC, and watch some youtube videos. This game is great fucking fun but it's dry and dense and not the easiest thing to figure out on your own. There's a fag named Quill something or other who makes some tutorial videos that I enjoyed and found helpful. I know it sounds like a pain in the ass but the in-game help is notoriously shitty in all of Paradox's games so that will make your first game more enjoyable. I personally never played on Noob Island (Ireland) because it seemed like it would be boring, but it isn't a bad idea for starters.
I think Ireland is still good for noobs because they aren't restricted by crown authority and they aren't at that much of risk of being rekt by a bigger fish.
You're in for an incredibly shallow game that pretends to be complex by confronting you with a horrible UI.
Yeah I think I agree, and if he's figuring shit out and Ireland is no longer big enough for him then Britain is right there next door.
Start off as an Emperor or King if you really have to, you'll pretty much never be declared war on by any major nation depending on who you play as.
Try the HRE or 1066 Byzantium, just eat smaller nations. Try to marry a princess or someone who has an inheritable claim, the son you have with her can be an eligible claimant for a foreign throne which you can incorporate into your nation.
>pirate the DLC
>don't play with mods until you've at least played the game a bit
>disable Sunset invasion, Conclave and Reaper's Due on your first 1-2 games (adds diseases, council that will fuck with your shit while you're trying to learn the basics)
>start in Ireland 1066
>don't start in Spain, updates/patches/DLC have made it hard, in the old days it used to be a newbie start too but not anymore
then
>use Chancellor to fabricate claims on neighbours
>get a wife with good stats
>upgrade your holding
>make babies
>try to become Primogeniture or Elective Monarchy
>make all your vassals happy
>check the size of the enemy's army, his gold and his allies before attacking him.
>kill him when you outnumber him
>marry your daughters to nearby powerful people (scotland, england, france, germany etc) for alliances.
>always be plotting to kill someone
>drink whisky
Repeat
You could start a game and fire the event spawning them with the console, then switch to their leader.
>marry your daughters to powerful people
death sentence imo because you're letting claims go outside of realm.
What do you do with your daughters? Marry them to vassals?
Then after a campaign or two in Ireland and you've learnt the mechanics, enable Conclave and Reaper's then try a campaign in either Slavic eastern Europe or as a Duke of France/Germany/Italy.
Keep in mind CK2 is a Dynasty roleplaying simulator, not a map-painting strategy game so much. Have fun.
Down the line yea, if you're a 2 count independent guy and vikings show up with a bajillion dudes it's nice to have someone win your wars for you. Also
>get vassalized
>absorb the giant realm from within
invite people with claims to your court and marry using matrilineal marriage. Also do this to relatives of the leaders of other kingdoms. This way you make sure your claims stay within your dynasty. I do it with my vassal kings for NAP but they are dynasty members so it doesn't matter.
Its a game about alt tabbing and waiting for shit to happen. Hope you pirated it
I second not listening to this nigger, Conclave is awesome. Also, the game is a bit unplayable if you don't have it turned on, since Conclave patch halved all relationship bonuses and maluses, but vassals still join factions if they have less then 60 opinion, and don't leave them until 80.
No, you invite claimants from other kingdoms and marry matrilineally into their dynasties. It often leads to you inheriting England or some shit without even trying to press the claim.
Are muslims fun?
yes whiteboy
This game really needed a cock size stat.
>Started the game as Matilda of Tuscanny
>I'm going to work my way until the empress and...
>Wait, is that byzantinian prince I can marry matrilineally?
>Did he just inherit?
>Was I just elected empress of Holy roman Empire?
>Well, I guess that's a succesful game then. Let's start over.
I've never had such bullshit luck happen to me before.
>start the game
>everyone has a shitton of kids and relationships already
>really hard to roleplay
Who can I play that starts nearly from scratch?
>I don't know how to play the game
There's always shit to do, play more
What do people think about Quantum Leap playthroughs?
>press random button
>play that realm for 2 characters
>when 2nd character dies, save & quit
>random a different character on the world
>repeat
They are the opposite of fun. Decadence is busywork that is intended solely to fuck over you, the player. It does nothing for islamic AI, since muslim blobs just change the dynasties that rule them, but otherwise remain stable and never split. For you, however, decadence revolts are a big threat.
Hope you like managing them, Ahmed, because your amount of decadence grows with each unlanded male relative you have. And with four wives being mandatory if you don't want to take prestige hits, you're going to have a lot of male relatives.
Seljuks are fun, though, if you change your religion to zoroastrian or jewish. They are even white, since they are persian.
Duke of Munster, 1066, Ireland. It's the standard start, and you are somehow in a better position than the king of Scotland at the same time period. That guy is FUCKED.
10/10 post
My starting character was murdered leaving me playing as a cutie Greek duchess in Anatolia. I was blinding and castrating people all over the place. I ended up being placed on the throne by way of a claim despite having no idea what was going on.
They're alright, but the religion doesn't have any particularly interesting mechanics and they get conquest CB without the drawback of being Pagan so they are basically built to blob.
Or just don't marry anyone/marry women close to 45. Being able to have so many extra wives is great since you can take an old woman with good stats as your primary wife and get a young one with good inheritable traits as a secondary.
Ah yeah I've done shit like that before but your shit has to all work out just right.
Use the custom ruler button.
Matilda can't become Empress. Tuscany is not an electorate and her Italian culture and ovaries lower your peers opinions of you.
It's cool to watch them tear half the continent apart from the other side of the world. I've also had fun with ingratiating myself with them as a small-time lord, converting, swearing fealty and then spending the rest of the game hijacking the whole death machine. Too bad the whole thing is kinda half-assed and will never be improved on.
Hold my beer, I have a screenshot somewhere.
>buy EUIV
>buy CK2
>Egypt is taken over by muslims in both game
>Can't play as coptics
Feels bad mang
Oh shit csrin? My nigga.
I have been using them since 2006.
Boss fools.
Oh, here it is. By the way, did you know that if your name has a related name in another language, than you change it when you switch cultures? This is why italian Matilda becomes german Mechthild.
Actually, with the Monks & Mystics (I think) you can swear fealty and secretly practice your old religion while publicly practicing another. I've never tried doing it as a vassal though.
