Is it just me or does Majora's Mask feel like an Ocarina of Time mod?
Is it just me or does Majora's Mask feel like an Ocarina of Time mod?
ice arrows are fun and yes
no, it feels like it uses the OOT engine and NPCs to make a better game
Which is what a Mod is.
Keep up with the conversation.
So its a sequel?
nice meme matey
OOT is a mod of mario 64
>the ice arrows are so useful
>said no one ever
I guess its a mod in the same way that New Vegas can be seen as a mod of Fallout 3.

If MM being built off the back of OOT keeps you from seeing that it was the only unique 3D Zelda in terms of game design until BOTW came out then you're a retard, plain and simple.
OOT was great, MM was great and altered to OOT formula and became it's own thing.
WW TP and SS are shitty OOT retreads that only have surface level changes like "youre a wolf for a bit" "the overworld is an ocean this time" and motion controls.
BOTW is vastly different from any other 3D entry, significantly more than MM was from OOT
In the sense that Mario Party 2 is a mod of Mario Party, I guess? That's just what sequels tend to be unless they're on completely different console generations.
>and altered to OOT formula
and altered the OOT formula*
More like an expansion pack. It rearranges the assets and adds some new mechanics, while still using the original game as the base. It's also a good example of Nintendo learning from experimentation/mistakes. MM was too short, but had more NPC interactions and side quests than any other Zelda. Sure enough, the next Zelda game (WW) was a return to a more standard formula, but kept the width and depth of NPCs and side quests from MM. I'd like to think they could so something like this again with BotW and have a more linear OoT style Zelda but keep some of the mechanics from BotW that worked (the physics and climbing). I guess we'll see in six years when they finish the next Zelda game.
Incorrect.
It's a mod of Star Fox 64. which is why there is a Arwing in the code.
>I want a linear zelda with the climbing mechanic
These two things fundamentally are not compatible.
This pisses me off because ice powers are GOAT and yet OoT does nothing particularly noteworthy with it. Hell, you can easily play through the game without ever finding them.
SS fucked with the formula in the sense of effectively turning the overworld into extensions of the dungeons. SS's overworld game is completely unlike any other Zelda before it, if not necessarily for the better. WW and TP are straight OoT rehashes, though I'd personally argue that TP is perhaps the logical conclusion of iterating the OoT formula to peak refinement. It just took what that game did, focused the progression a bit more and made it play a bit smoother while also repurposing a few of WW's mechanics to make them less shoddily implemented. I've got no beef with TP for what it is. WW's a bit shit, though. More ambitious than TP on paper but said ambition was half-baked in execution and it just felt like an all-around inferior Zelda beyond its artstyle. SS was more of a radical departure and a more successful one at that.
just you. it's better anyway.
Ice arrows are quite fun and yes it does re-use the engine and assets from ocarina of time. I prefer it too OOT however but thats just my opinion mang.
Holy shit I forgot about that
Being a mod doesn't stop something from being better. NV is a mod of FO3 and it's better.
No, since there are no halfway decent OoT mods, let alone any stellar ones.
Still mad at MM3D nerfing the ice arrows. They got OoT3D just right and then they decided to perform stupid experiments on MM just because.
Ice Arrows are the most powerful projectile in OoT. Of course they are useful. They can also freeze Bongo Bongo and Dark Link, two of the hardest bosses.
It was a minor change at best. Hardly affects the dungeon and ice arrows only ever affected water at great bay (and in the case of the central area with the lab, skulltula house, and pirate place, only if gyorg was dead).
Weirdly enough, all of the water in the 3DS gyorg arena can be frozen. You can use this to kill it without ever using the zora form.
Not SF64 engine, that's a dummy for volvagia testing.
